Welcome and thank you for tuning in to the WKRP evening news. I am your newscaster, Becky Brown.

Good evening and thank you for joining me with the WKRP evening news.

Also today’s Top Stories in Professional Sports: 1. Heavy Weight Champion Jack Dempsey announces fight. 2. And in Major League Baseball, Highlights of the game between the Boston Red Socks versus the New York Yankees.
Now back to today’s top news stories:
As I said earlier, there are some major developments in the April fourteenth robbery and murder of the payroll master and the guard at the Slater and Morrill Shoe Company. The shoe company is located in South Braintree, Massachusetts. Police have determined from witnesses on the scene that the robbery and murder was committed by two men that were of Italian descent. The two males were seen by several witnesses fleeing the scene. The two men got away “with over 15 thousand dollars” (Encyclopedia, 2011). Police have made two arrests in connection with the heist and murder of both the payroll master as well as his guard. The arrested were Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. Both of these men are Italian immigrants and both of the men are employed by the shoe company. These arrests were made after police discovered the men going to a “garage with two other Italian men, to claim a car that local police had connected with the crime (Encyclopedia, 2011)”. Soon after the arrests police discovered that both of the men are “anarchists and feared deportation by the United States Department of Justice” (Encyclopedia, 2011). Other than the police finding that the two men had picked up a car that was believed to be in connection with the heist and robbery, “both men provided alibis and scores of witnesses testified on their behalf” (McGirr, 2007). There was also the issue about the money that was stolen, there was “no money found linking the two men to the crime” (McGirr, 2007). In a hearing today both of the men proclaimed their innocence. Sacco said in a statement “I am never been guilty, never, -- not yesterday nor today nor forever” (Sacco, 2009). Vanzetti also provided the court with his statement. Vanzetti said “I am not only innocent of these two crimes, but in all my life I have never stole and I have never killed and I have never spilled blood” (Sacco, 2009). After the jury listened to the statements provided by both Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti the court came to the final decision. The final decision of the court is both men have been determined to be guilty and will receive the death punishment. The guilty verdict for both Sacco and Vanzetti has enraged people all over the world. In “Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Marseilles workers organized vigils and rallies” (McGirr, 2007) to show their support. Both Sacco and Vanzetti are currently working with lawyers to form an appeal of the final decision. Commercial Break We will be back after this word from our sponsor. ...and like every “small step for a man, and one giant leap forward for mankind” there are repercussions(The Space Race). One of the things that changed with the evolution of technology from its primitive state to its more modern version is news; once only told by an unbiased, or at least strived to be, newscasters like Walter Cronkite(Cronkite) and people were forced to watch the whole thing until what they were really interested in came on has now turned into an extremely selective and biased way of reporting the news with outstandingly big downsides that has lead society to be harshly less informed about what is going on around them and more susceptible to having their opinion swayed with possible misclassification of news. By the end of 2010 more people claimed to be receiving their news intake from the internet than from newspapers(Featured in Social Media) and with the simplified access to articles relating to just about anything whether they are true or not has made it questionable whether the internet can be used for a reliable source to receive news. When stories could not be written they were passed down verbally from generation to generation and with every retelling a new version of the original came alive(Oral Tradition). Media Bias

...radio stations. We expect them to report the truth. However, current media outlets distort stories and certain new reports are getting too much attention. The most important stories are never seen on television or read in the newspaper, or heard on the radio stations, while minor and trivial stories get the most coverage. Hence celebrity engagements, divorce, entrance to rehab centers and DUI cases that are sold to the media. Americans are then left without valuable information contrary to what story is getting 24- hour news coverage. Media bias is a term used to describe prejudice in news and media reports, in which is perceived as an imbalance or unfair presentation of facts or selective reporting of which events or facts reported. The main point here is when biases in media distorts certain stories, and other stories are spoken about entirely too much it hurts the democracy in America. The media, in that case, fails to focus on real issues that underlie the American culture, it has one-sided opinions, favoring a liberal’s point of view, and it caters to the majority, favoring the wealthy. Media biases causes American people to become misinformed or too well informed, often due to the tendency of the media covering unimportant stories about celebrities, while overlooking issues like war, poverty, disease, violence, and education. The media content and new coverage rarely display the underlying issues that the American people face. Rather, it...

Propaganda and Lies in American News Outlets

...Propaganda and lies in American news outlets What is propaganda? How is propaganda perpetrated through the media and especially in media broadcasting American news? Propaganda is some sort of action based on communication that is made purposely for the intention of influencing opinion as well as the thinking of a specific community so that conflict or disagreements may arise. In most cases propaganda happens through media since it’s the most common place where individuals pay attention to and it normally end up influencing the opinions of so many people. A very good example is how the news outlets in America spread lies and propaganda based on some of the most crucial situations with the aim of protecting specific famous individuals (Fawcett 2007). This paper will show and analyze presence of propaganda in some of the major news outlets in America, the reasons they do this as well as what the opinion of the public. For so many years almost all the news outlets in America have been on the fore front spreading lies and propaganda. Some of the executives, senior producers and the executive producers know what the media is doing and it is under their consent that such this happens. They are involved in all the activities of the news outlets and because they tend to be biased, they use the media to spread lies and propaganda in the American news outlets. (endthelie.com) This has led to so many Americans questioning the integrity and reliability of these news outlets as much as they expected...

Global Issues

...The Global News Stations Blue Ranney ReactionPaper-RanneyB-FA13 Middle East In the Middle East (Southwest, Asia) there has been a war going on for over hundreds of years and many people have lost their lives and some live on to tell their stories. It’s not every day that we hear about everything going on over in the Southwestern region, but there are all sorts of unfathomable crimes taking place as we speak today. I’ve seen on CNBC nightly news the war crimes taking place in Syria. There have been over 180 Syrians killed and over 200 women and children kept as hostages. This is a war crime led by rebels teamed with the government. If it wasn’t for CNBC news I wouldn’t have known about this story. There are numerous different ways to hear about what’s going on in the world today. You can read magazines, watch TV, and get information from the internet. I personally like to stay up with the world news using the internet. Three foundations that I would like to focus on are “Human Rights Watch, NPR, and Alternet”. My first thoughts of these sites, I drew a blank, and didn’t really know what to expect from them. The one similarity that I recognized is how they are funded foundations through charities and donations. The” Human Rights Watch” and “NPR” are both funded...

News of Nation

...News of a Nation In the modern age of technology, the individual is able to receive news of around the nation or the world from various sources. Since stations; such as NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX, are distinct broadcast stations, some may have different techniques of presenting their stories. Some broadcast stations, such as NBC, use the words “pierce” and “wail of sirens” to set the tone of the story to evoke emotions from viewers at home. Broadcast stations, like CBS, use visuals and interviews to give a clearer understanding of what happened and how it happened. However, some stations, like FOX tend to give viewers a goofy and simply non-serious report on events and incidents that occur in the nation. Then there are stations, like ABC, who simply deliver the news clearly and directly to viewers at home. News stations around the nation have different methods of delivering their news, although some of them are less beneficial than others. During NBC’s Nightly News, with Brian Williams, the Pentagon correspondant, Jim Miklaszewski, emphasizes the implications the Navy yard shooting had in the four mile radius of the incident. He states, “... nearby schools were locked down, highways shut down, the Capital closed and the Nationals game postponed.” The emphasis of these implications the shooting had on the public shows the intense and immediate fear that struck throughout Washington D.C. The emphasis constantly hits the reader with the consequences of the shooting and it allows...

Emotionalless Entertainment Analysis

...News: Emotionless Entertainment Nobody would argue that the use of technology has dramatically increased over the past decade, let alone over the past century. Technology has impacted and changed every aspect of our lives. One piece of technology in particular transformed people’s lives: the television. Less than a century ago, people lived without the use of this revolutionary technological item. Now the vast majority of households in America has one if not numerous televisions. People own televisions for a variety of purposes. Some people watch college sporting events, teenagers may drown out the voice of their mom, and others watch news programs. Even though the television serves a multitude of different functions, these functions often...

Comparative Analysis of Robert Frost

...Robert Frost is one of the most famous poet’s, winning four Pulitzers Prizes, and even reciting one of his poems at President John F. Kennedy’s inauguration. Frost was born in San Francisco, but spent most of his life in New England, as a teacher and farmer, in rural New Hampshire. Frost often uses natural elements in his poetry, especially New England landscapes. He uses seasons, flowers, fields, stars, and time of day to set a logical sequence of events to paint a psychological feeling inside the reader’s mind. Two of Robert Frost’s poems, “Desert Places” and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”, take readers through a New England winter setting, reflecting the beautiful scenery through his descriptive imagery. However, even though these two poems are set in a wintry backdrop, they convey very different tones. One has a feeling of loneliness, and the other a welcoming feeling of solitude. In this paper, I intend to illustrate how two very similar natural settings are written to express two very different themes of loneliness. The poems “Desert Places” and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” have quite a few similarities. For instance, they both share the same rhythmic scheme; A,A,B,A. They both are set in a snowy, evening where darkness is taking over quickly. In both poems there is a man traveling alone, where no other souls are around. There is a sense that both travelers are stepping away from life for a brief moment in time. The contrast of darkness and whiteness...

Examining Frost

...Poem: Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening William R. Spicer, Jr. ENGL 102 Composition and Literature April 23, 2012 Examining Robert Frost’s Poem: Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening has been my favorite poem since the fourth grade. Mrs. Brown, my English teacher, discussed the poem during the week before Christmas break. The entire school was buzzing with excitement at the upcoming holiday and when she introduced the poem, it seemed like everyone and everything slowed and we were transformed to a quite snow-covered forest. The question I chose to answer is about the symbolism in the setting of this poem. In our text a symbol is defined as a person place or thing in a narrative that suggests meaning beyond its literal sense. The simplistic setting represents the author’s need for peace, rejuvenation and a reminder of home, before he starts out again on his journey. Few places can be considered as comforting and peaceful and lovely as a familiar forest covered in snow. Since the writer was not afraid of being alone I believe he must be very familiar with the forest and probably grew up near it. The wood behind my house was a very special place for me. In the summertime it was a place to build forts and have adventures with my friends. On cool summer nights, it’s where my friends and I would pitch a tent and tell scary stories by flashlight. My family and I would go on hikes and discover a new place to pick wild blueberries for...

...Period While music and art from the Classical period was based on reason, order and rules, music and other art from the Romantic period was based on emotion, adventure and imagination. The Romantic period was a time of political revolution and new ways of looking at the world. Instead of working for wealthy bosses, composers were for the first time able to work for themselves. They composed music to express what they were thinking and feeling- unlike during earlier days, when they were only allowed to compose exactly what their employer wanted. During the Romantic period, there was a new appreciation of the artist as an individual- someone who had feelings, which were expressed through their creations. Romanticism was a form of rebellion against restrictions on artistic expression. The artists or the writers should express their innermost feelings in any form they chose. Romanticism had a new set of values: the innermost emotions should be fully expressed. Art should please the senses. Imagination was more important than reason. After the Napoleonic wars became a memory, French fashion was dominated by a new wave of Anglomania. The British writings of Sir Walter Scott and Lord Byron helped popularize a thirst for a more romantic image. There was a snobbish attraction on the continent for all things English, cultivated and refined. Beau Brummell had codified many of the attitudes toward the ‘Art Of Dress’...

19th Century Research Paper

...Here, Gutzkow is referring to the shops, restaurants and pubs that could now stay open in the evenings thanks to artificial illumination and stood out in the night sky. It is worth noting that ‘nightlife’ is a 19th century word with its first known use coming in 1852, the evenings were no longer a time of reclusiveness, but instead an opportunity to socialize as taverns and coffee shops began to thrive in this new era. Wolfgang Schivelbusch compares the windows of these shops to stages, with the street becoming a theater and the passerby the audience. The evenings now presented an opportunity for businesses to continue trading and the public to enjoy these services, as Robert Louis Stevenson remarks, ‘a new age had begun for sociality and corporate pleasure-seeking’ . In light of this evidence, it would appear entirely plausible to suggest artificial illumination played a very important role in the development of urban life during the 19th century as it proved extremely influential in creating ‘nightlife’ which is a major characteristic in the definition of a...

...process could take me over an hour if I did not figure out ways to do thing more time effective and with better planning. There are also occurrences that I can not control that could also cause my morning to be frustrating and time consuming making me late for work and other problems as mentioned above. During week, one I noticed there were processes that were taking more time than needed the directed affected my time usage in the morning like showering in the morning. We have four people in our home who get up within 10 minutes of each and each one of us needs to get into the bathroom to shower, brush our teeth and prepare for the day. I feel if everyone was willing to shower in the evening that would shave at least 15 to 20 minutes off of our time, because I shower in the evening then I can wash up quickly in the morning and get dressed as well as my son. I found that another process that I could control is it takes me at least 10 to 15 minutes to fix lunches for my husband, my son, and I in the morning for lunch. I have found that if I fix our lunches at night that would save me more time in the morning to focus on getting my son ready for school. My son is responsible for taking the dogs out for their morning walk and bathroom break as well as feeding them this process can often take thirty...

Frost, Where the Road Takes Us

...Frost, Where the Road Brings Us #201337029 English 1080 Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken” and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” both portray similarities in themes of the weight of realities, while taken place in a setting of nature. Each are about experiences in life in “The Road Not Taken” the speaker is youthful, making the decision to last a lifetime metaphorically portrayed by an autumn forest. He must overcome his mentality to succumb from the more beaten path in a road, showing his uniqueness to take the other. “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” where as Frost uses an older speaker, more grizzled and experienced in life. The speaker also experiencing a choice, seeking a life without struggle in isolation he then reflects upon his responsibility towards the society. In the poem “The Road Not Taken”, the speaker stumbles upon a choice that will effect him forever. The poems talk of the speaker coming to a fork in his path, whereas now he has to choose one way or the other. This intersection in the road is a metaphor to all the decisions we have to make in life, and how easily it could alter with just by starting down a new path. The speaker thinks about his choices and feels that whatever path he takes; he will have to take for good. The speaker feels strongly that he must think really hard upon what path to take, so he doesn’t end up regretting his choice. “And looked down the road as far as I could...
