Jaws, The Sting, and The Exorcist. What do all three of these films have in common except the fact that they were meant to frighten and entertain? The answer is that they were all made during the 1970's. During the 70's period America was going through two World Wars, a drastic change in the economy and technology department. These advancements into the upcoming "digital age" sparked new movies, iconic actors/actresses, as well as refurbished the old fashioned special effects, which helped ease the growing tension on American minds, leaving them with less worries and more time with their families. Technology was becoming more advanced leading for many new producers and directors to take advantage of this leap in hopes of scoring big bucks. Studies show that the 1960's best liked shows that dealt in social or political affairs whereas the 1970's population wanted more sci-fi things including far off places and astounding works in both special effects and in the horror genre. TV shows that already were doing well and had gained a captivated audience were old time westerns or comedies, such as "Gunsmoke" and "That Girl." Shows that gave viewers that nostalgic, old-timey feeling were mostly dedicated to the older age group, little to none was made specifically for teens to younger children. The only horror movies arounf this time were black and white thrillers such as "Dracula" and "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" it wasn't until popularity surrounded special effects did big hits such as "The Exorcist" and "Jaws" come out to a very adoring
