...Research papers made me stop liking writing because they had a lot of requirements and I don’t like doing research. I also use to like reading too but I find research boring so that also made me stop liking reading. I did not find any interest in reading or writing about research topics because history is my least favorite class. Every year of high school so far is a different type of writing in every english class. It started out in 6th grade with creative stories, 7th grade with holocaust research essay, 8th grade essays, 9th grade reading stories, 10th grade I had AP english so we did reflection essays over the book we had to read every quarter and that was very hard to me and made english my worst subject. Although, now that I’m in 11th grade english, I am starting to like english a little. I like how we have our own choice of books we want to read and the 10 minutes of reading everyday. I prefer free writing, like we get a topic and go from there, but doing research and having to have a lot of pages and all those requirements, is what i don’t...

...high expectations nor thought this class would be enjoyable. When looking at DegreeWorks for classes and seeing English 101 and 102, I was puzzled with the reason behind the courses; however, as the course is coming to a close, I realize the reason behind the courses- to broaden my thoughts on how to elevate my writing to a new standard. When thinking about how good of a writer I am, I have never thought of myself as a good writer, since there is always some improvement that can be made, though I think my greatest strength as a writer is my willingness to accept criticism to improve my writing and become a better writer. My greatest weakness in writing papers in my thesis, where it is difficult for me to relate my information back to my thesis and change my traditional way to create theses that would better fit with the academic lifestyle. Throughout this course, I believe I have developed as a writer, learning that there is no set way to write a...

...in my English 090 class. My teacher’s name was Josh Lane, but the class just called him Josh. I went into the course with the assumption that I would only have to compose simple paragraph papers while also learning the ropes of grammatical writing. I was sadly mistaken. Through the semester Josh gave the class five writing assignments. They ranged from three to five pages long. Out of all the writing assignments I received my favorite was a four page paper I had to write an allegory of myself. My least favorite was a five page paper the whole class had to write. About mid semester, when my hand only had a tingle, Josh lectured about Plato’s “A Allegory of the Cave.” Thus giving me my next challenging task he had in store. I had to compose an allegory of myself while explaining the concept of the Plato’s allegory. I had to dissect the symbolism in Plato’s allegory and prove how it coincided with my own allegory. What made this objective so interesting, yet so strenuous was the fact that my allegory had to be based upon a difficult time I have had in my life. My essay was littered with very detailed descriptors of my dreadful situation and Plato’s allegory. That is why this particular essay was my favorite. I8 was able to take a seemingly arduous task and break it down, in my own words, so that a reader would be able to comprehend “The Allegory of the Cave,” and still be able to relate to my allegory. The last essay due came just before my hand fell off. Before the class took our...

...When I look back to my journey throughout AP Lit, it’s hard to believe it has been a whole year already. At the same time, I can’t believe it has only been a year. This class has made my days brighter and has been a great way to start the morning second semester. My favorite choice book to analyze was The Handmaid’s Tale. I think it might have to do with the fact that we did the journal project with it, so I had to go more into depth than normal when writing about it. I actually ended up recommending it to my sister to use for her final project in English. The not so distant future described in this book absolutely fascinated me. I’ve always been a fan of dystopian/utopian societies, so when I heard about the concept of this book I...

...College English Name: ________________________ The 20 Rules of Subject Verb Agreement in Standard English (1-4) 1. Subjects and verbs must agree in number. This is the cornerstone rule that forms the background of the concept. The dog growls when he is angry. The dogs growl when they are angry. 2. Don’t get confused by the words that come between the subject and verb; they do not affect agreement. The dog, who is chewing on my jeans, is usually very good. 3. Prepositional phrases between the subject and verb usually do not affect agreement. The colors of the rainbow are beautiful. 4. When sentences start with “there” or “here,” the subject will always be placed after the verb, so care needs to be taken to identify it correctly. There is a problem with the balance sheet. Here are the papers you requested. Day 1 – Determine whether or not the following sentences are correct. If they are incorrect, make the necessary adjustments. 1. There are extra butter in the refrigerator. 2. My mother, along with the other representatives, are going to the convention. 3. A player on the Vikings are going to sign autographs at the mall this Saturday. 4. My sister eat paste. 5. This Tuesday, John, as well as his friends, is driving to the rock concert. 6. ...more important higher order concerns: audience, pathos and genre conventions. Previously, the reference to the audience for my blog was vague and practically missing. By adding the fact that “one of the primary uses of this blog is for my English 1020 class at Wayne State University,” I was able to hone in on my prospective audience: my professor and fellow classmates. Next, I added in more details about myself to help the reader feel better connected to me. By stating where I lived through my life and what country I identity myself as being from, as well as one of my biggest goals in life, I am allowing future readers to know me and my writing, not just the latter. Finally, I attempted to improve my use of genre conventions. About Me pages typically include a reason why the writer started a blog, so I included that. Also, I tried to be more interactive with my readers by asking them to provide feedback to my blogs, another characteristic of the genre. In terms of the Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs), I feel I have made significant progress in writing, reading, research and reflecting (some more than others) so for this semester. I am excited to see how much further I can improve in these categories, as they are essential not only for English and other...

...Spanish class of nine classmates. Out of 53 students from Spanish Level 2, only five of us decided to continue their spanish education; the other four were native speakers who were part of the english language acquisition program. We heard the alumni’s warnings constantly- “If you want to keep your sanity, do not take Spanish 3,” “Senor Pysher will definitely not have pity on you as a Junior,” and my favorite warning- “It’s worse than any class I’ve taken, even my APs!” However, I did not listen. I enjoyed Spanish class dearly and I was determined to continue my studies. Everyday in Spanish Level 3, I walked into a storm of irregular verb conjugations, latin american geography...

...The last eight months of school were amazing. My eighth-grade year would have to be my favorite year at this school. The year went by as quick as a blink of an eye. Bad things had happened this year like losing friends and having rumors spread around, but not everything was bad this year, there were good things that happen. The good things that happen this year were becoming closer with friends and having nice teachers. Also, I have learned some much and experience new things. My favorite part in English class would have to be the debates. It was so fun listen to others point of view in real life situations or their how they see things. What I least like about English class would have to be the fishbowl. Fishbowl was fun, but I like it better...

...Even though writing class is not my favorite class of all time, since I have always had issues with writing due to things like grammar errors and fragment sentences. Thus, it is never easy for me to form a five-paragraph essay that would constricted my ideas for so long, and yet would cost me more than a week to write. However, during this semester, I have learned multiple things in English composition 1304. I have learned how to think outside of the box on every assignment I wrote. I have become a better writer, at least in my mind. The different writing assignments in this class were very unique and were helpful to me using research which includes how to use appropriate MLA formatting, and how to find and properly use different sources. Also,...

...1940, with one of the largest classes the school ever saw. She loved school, and her favorite subjects were English, math, and music. She played every sport and joined everything there was to join. Hilda took chemistry and biology, and was one of only two girls. She also studied ancient history, French, and Latin. She took piano lessons for seven years, played the trombone in the school marching band, and loved to sing. Though there weren't many dances at Bangor High, there was a dance hall on the street she lived, and she went and danced there often. There were several differences between school when she was a teenager and now. At Bangor High, there was no lunch provided, so students walked home to eat instead of in a school cafeteria. There were no school busses, and almost no high schoolers had their own cars. Parents didn't interfere much, so it was really up to you as a student to do well and graduate. If you got in trouble, you were expected to take care of it yourself. They also had to wear white and maroon uniforms, which were the school colors. Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomores attended school in the mornings, while the freshmen went during the afternoon....

...Introduction Cookienator is a local business that runs cooking class at Kuala Lumpur area. There are around 500 active students that attend cooking classes there. Upon some students’ request, Cookienator intended to start up a website to publish cooking steps and recipes so that students can learn directly from home and save travelling cost and time. Also, not all students have the same preference towards meals and cooking methods. Each individual have their own likes and dislikes so by giving them options to learn by themselves allows them to fully utilize the resources provided and Otoke group is chosen by cookbook magazine to set up a website for Cookienator. Our project includes designing a website where those who are learning from home can successfully understand and easily follow the instructions and guidance provided. There are many other websites and applications that have similar functions but very few of them are successful. The reason behind this is not that most users dislike the meals available; mostly it is because the instructions are not clear enough, and user finds it difficult to find the suitable dishes to prepare. Other problem will be taking into considerations and improvise based on user needs. The webpage we will be designing intend to meets users’ needs and well organized to provide convenience for users. ...Creative writing was one of my favorite classes. It was the class I looked forward to because your imagination could run wild. Yes there are projects you have to do, and deadlines you need to meet but that is a part of life. I was always a shy kid in school but this class did help me open up a little bit. We had a project where we needed to make an iMovie about a meaningful time in your life. I put time and work into mine and I was proud of it. When Mrs. Jepsen asked if anyone wanted to go first, I volunteered. I never volunteered to go first in any other class before. After my iMovie was over everyone just had so many great things to say about it. Every since that moment, I was less scared about presenting in front of the class. If you like...

I love the culture and food from there but sometimes I don’t really like eating Mexican food from home because it’s not the same. I’m taking English Composition 1 because I’m taking my basic courses in college. I love English, it was my favorite class in High School. I liked writing essays and writing in a journal, it took me away from the days when I was feeling bad. I remember one day when we had to pick a book to read in a group. I picked the book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. My favorite author would definitely be F. Scott Fitzgerald because he really surprised me with the way he described Daisy, Nick, and Gatsby. I was really excited when I heard that the book was going to be a movie. I even read the book a second time when I finished watching the blockbuster. I’ve always wanted to write something and turn it into a movie. I’m studying for an Associates in Radio- Television- Film. I’m graduating in 4 years in 2017. I’ve always loved movies and writing ideas down for videos. The best video I did was a skit about The Great Gatsby for my English class in junior year. When my mom found out I wanted to become a filmmaker, she took me to the Apple store to buy my first laptop to edit and help with college. In the future I’m going to take some Film courses in college and try to make something fun and meaningful in the future. I...
