...13, 2012 The Five Love Languages With the divorce rate at over fifty percent, what can be done to keep love alive? What is the secret to a happy marriage? These are questions that Gary Chapman explores and defines in The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate. If couples are to communicate effectively with each other they must learn the language with whom they want to communicate. This book explores the five emotional love languages and the way couples speak and understand emotional love. Specifically the emotional love language a husband or wife would consider as their primary “love language”. Couples may be expressing what they know is their love language, but they may not be speaking their spouses love language and their spouse is interpreting it as a foreign language. Chapman insists when you identify and learn to speak your spouse’s primary love language you will have discovered the key to a long-lasting loving marriage. The Five Love Languages explored in Chapman’s book are: (1) Words of Affirmation, (2) Quality Time, (3) Receiving Gifts, (4) Acts of Service, and (5) Physical Touch. “At the heart of mankind’s existence is the desire to be intimate and to be loved by another. Marriage is designed to meet that need for intimacy and love” (Chapman). Each person in a marriage has an emotional love language that speaks loudly to them and when used by the other person it fills up the receivers emotional love tank. Gary Chapman...

What is the Difference Between Infatuation and Love? What is Puppy Love? Which Brain Chemicals Underlie the Experience of Romantic Love? What are Love Languages? Dr. Gary Chapman, a Christian family counselor and author, has developed a relationship-building program called the 5 love languages. Love languages are defined as verbal and non-verbal communications between couples which improve the mental and physical well-being of both partners. These mutual expressions and actions help to build up a nurturing environment in which couples can improve both their emotional and physical intimacy levels. The first of the five love languages includes words of affirmation. These words go far beyond a perfunctory "I love you" ritual, and include specific recognition of a partner's contributions to the relationship or the household or a career. The point of the exercise is to provide enough positive affirmation of a partner's self-worth to motivate that person towards even more personal growth. By telling a partner or friend or co-worker how much you appreciate his or her efforts, you are speaking in a language he or she can understand. The second of the five love languages involves spending quality time with a loved one. This means setting aside a meaningful amount of personal time in which the friend or...

...Marriage what does marriage mean. Marriage is a human reality founded on mutual consent and reciprocal love. Marriage is a bond between two people of the opposite sex that went in front of a minister and exchanged vows. I feel the most important qualities of marriage are love, trust and for a wife to be able to submit to her husband. Submitting I feel is the most difficult part of the marriage, I feel this way because it feel’s as if I don’t have that same control over my life as I did before I was married. I have made a few mistakes in the years I’ve been married. I always look at it like this thank God for forgiveness. In the Old Testament marriage was part of God’s purpose in creating people and the world. It was seen as life giving to children and to love and care for a family. Some of us now know that in the New Testament high standards were set for marriage. Jesus gave forgiveness for those who failed marriage. Jesus did not believe in divorce. Jesus said anyone who divorced ad those then remarried was committing adultery. The purpose for marriage is to commit yourself to the person you love for a lifetime, as well as to bring up your children in a secure and loving home. The purpose of marriage has so many; here are a few sexual relationships with one person, to have a friendship and companionship through life. Marriage is about sharing your life completely with that one partner. It’s about having and caring for children. Christian marriage is very...

...Every person has a different idea of how to show love to another. Gary Chapman identifies five common love languages among people in relationships. The first category is words of affection. Someone who uses words of affection might often give verbal compliments, write love notes or letters, and show her partner he is valued and appreciated. A person speaking this language is easily offended by insults and ridicule. The second category, quality time, is shown by being available to a partner and fully attentive. This language speaker might feel unloved when her partner does not give his undivided attention while with her. Gifts is the the third category which is spoken through gifts of material items or time. Acts of service is a language shown...

...Name: Delano Hinds ID#: A00327318 Love in Religion from East to West Love is expressed in many languages and is in the many different religions that exist upon the planet. From Hinduism to Christianity, it seems that each religion has the same priority, which is to teach and show how God loves us, his children, and how we in turn must show that same intense love to others that we coincide with on a daily basis. It is seen as the way to achieve world peace, unity and progress; “Love thy neighbor as you love yourself.” With the help of Thomas Jay Oord, I will go into depth of how love and its teachings through religion have affected people and discuss the differences between Christianity and Islam, or love in the east and west. In the eastern world, there is much discipline and faith that the people of Islam, Muslims, acknowledge through the Qur’an. “As such, the Qur’an for Muslims is the primary means of encountering God” (Abdin, “Love in Islam”, p.188). It is this deep desire of wanting to be on the path with Allah, that Muslims believe that the path to true love is through Allah and that true human love is part of Allah. “Muslims believe that true human love is part of Allah’s love and that it is the duty of Muslims to love one another truly” (Abdin, “Love in Islam”, p.188). The sense of placing one’s true “overseer” ahead of those whom you are supposed to love is highly regarded in the Islam world. There are different schools of thought in the Muslim world, they are...

...Introduction to Chinese Literature China possesses one of the world's major literary traditions. Its texts have been preserved for over 3,000 years. Reverence for the past has influenced the preservation of these cultural sources, and may have influenced the invention of woodblock printing in the 9th century and moveable type printing in the 12th century. The practice of collecting and reproducing libraries has also played a major role in the transmission of literary tradition. Most important, China can boast an unbroken cultural tradition based on the Chinese script as a language — a written medium — independent of spoken dialectic difference. As literary language became increasingly removed from spoken language, it became less vital and literature took a natural turn toward imitation. Indeed, after the formative classical period that began with Confucius, the literary history of China becomes one of imitation-with-variations of different models. Literature also thus becomes more elitist, for an understanding or appreciation of a text may require familiarity with the models being alluded to. The principal genre of Chinese literature is poetry; early folk songs established the shi (shih) form that crystallized during the Han dynasty and dominated for the next 1,200 years. Beginning with the simple complaints and longings expressed in rhymed couplets of folk songs, this form gradually became more and more complex, or "regulated," until it took years of study to master its formal...

...writing of poetry. Donne's poem "The Flea" was written in the 17th century and so would be perceived very differently in modern times to what it would have been when it was written. The type of love that is shown in "The Flea" would be described as desperate love, this is shown through the style in which its written, a conceit, this means there will be lots of imagery in it. Christina Rossetti lived between 1830-1894, during her life she volunteered at the 'fallen woman' refuge, was a very religious woman and was proposed to on two different occasions, but declined both because of religious differences. Rossetti was a pre-raphaelite poet of the 19th century, which is evident from her poetry. "Amen" was written hundreds of years after "The Flea", therefore the way either of them are to be perceived will be very different. The theme of love shown in "Amen" is loss of love, this could be because Rossetti possibly regrets rejecting two marriage proposals. The poem of "Amen" that I studied was a cropped version of the original, and so only had three stanzas. From this I learned that these three stanzas were based on the seasons, which changed when the next verse started, this is use of pathetic fallacy which is to be expected as pre-raphaelite poets use vivid imagery. "Amen" consists of two five-lined stanzas of trochaic pentameter with a rhyme scheme of ABABB, which continues in the final stanza as there are an extra two lines. "The Flea" can be said to be a very different type of...

...shown as well as forms of figurative language used to show them. When writing, Shakespeare uses figurative language in the form of metaphors, similes, personification, and imagery in order to advance the overall theme, the brutality of love. The brutality of love in this play is that a boy who may seem to be fully committed to one girl, can so easily turn to be in love with another when he is not given his way, as well as the fact that love may not always last forever when the fate of love is put in the hands of other people, and there are always outside forces urging the two of them to stay away from each other. All of this is seen occurring very early in Romeo and Juliet, and continues...

...may contribute to their partner’s fulfillment and satisfaction in marriage. MARITAL INTIMACY SKILLS 3 Defining and Training Marital Intimacy Skills Emotional intimacy refers to the emotional closeness two people are able to feel or develop over certain time period. It is the place where a couple is able to share and be transparent about their feelings and emotions. Sadly many couples do not experience this type of intimacy, this lack of intimacy is clearly seen our society today. The Americans for Divorce Reform estimates that “It is estimated that 40% of all marriages have ended in divorce as of 2008” (Wikipedia, 2011) But what can we do to change this? What can we do to experience emotional intimacy with the people we love the most, especially our spouse? First of all, we need to understand the basic emotional needs of our spouse, which are different...

...ASSIGNMENT PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PART 1 1.1 List at least five examples of types of skills which you consider to be important for your current studies and at least five examples of types of skills which you consider important for your future career. A skills audit is essentially a process for measuring and recording the skills of an individual or group. The main purpose for conducting a skills audit in an organisation is to identify the skills and knowledge that the organisation requires, as well as the skills and knowledge that the organisation currently has. Skills audits are also usually done to determine training needs so an organisation can improve its skills and knowledge. However skills audits are also completed for other reasons such as restructuring and deployment. A skills audit gathers more information than simply your current qualifications level. It firstly identifies the skills matrices for the organisation and then delves into what the current competencies are of each individual against this predefined set of skills required to fulfil a specific role. The outcome of the skills audit process is a skills gap analysis. This information will enable the organisation to improve by providing the appropriate training and development to individuals to cater for the identified skill gaps. The skills audit process will also provide information which can be used for purposes such as internal employee selection and to ensure...

...Sarcasm In the song Sarcasm, by Get Scared the author uses metaphors and symbolic language in the song to convey that love that causes excruciating pain isn’t love. The author uses symbolic language in stanza three," Don't mind us we're just spilling our guts,If this is love I don't wanna be loved,You pollute the room with a filthy tongue,Watch me choke it down so I can throw it up." The author includes this to support that love shouldn't hurt because in this stanza it says that hurtful secrets are being revealed and is hurting the main character/singer. He doesn't want to be in a relationship with his spouse anymore because all she does is bringing him anguish because she verbally abuses him. She does so because she considers doing...

...even read some speeches and books that include language and persuasion. I personally love language and persuasion and even language and power because when I read it grabs me and it shows me the right path by the reasons and evidence. For my third written task, I have decided to give a speech to my friends (students) and their families. The speech will be given when I graduate from schooling in Iraq, Ankawa, and Mar Qardakh School about love and religion using language and persuasion. The topic of the speech is “Religion” it is suitable for this task because it allows me to express my feeling and views in daily life. Nowadays people do not understand their religion, I will try my best to make them understand the word religion and relating it to love by using a simple language. My speech will be based on, God is love, Love is a gift, Love forgives, Love is a sacrifice, and true love is everlasting; it's undying. I have read some great speeches that Winston Churchill gives for uniting his people; I will use similar style for uniting the Christianity. The text type is a speech to a student and their families to advise them during their studies because religion affects their studies and even for making it...
