“Be Kind Rewind” is a movie that every teenager should watch, and be influenced by its creative nature.The movie actually the based on a idea of remaking.It generally criticize the today’s generation, and showing that creating is actually very fun,cheap and easy nowadays.If a person who knows about Michael Gondry’s cinematic style, and his life story then the movie starts to make much more sense.Actually not just remaking, but as a collective group of people, as district, it associates old traditions, feelings to audience, and it wants to show to those people how precious old times were compared to today’s world, and today’s generation.With this, it also starts to show how the gentrification process affected, and changed people’s life styles.I want to share my opinions on those ideas which i stated.
First of all, the idea of remaking process is very interesting.From the Michael Gondry’s points of view, the remaking process is reference of the idea of memory.In this context, when they start filming, and remaking those films, they are making it a different way, they are making it according to what they remember, which is very different from the original movie, and in this process, they are also creating, adding new ideas on scenes.For example, why did they shoot ghostbusters first?And why did they shoot the movie in library?The similarity between a video store and library is interesting.They both are similar archives of cultural and literary productions, and both of them are public spaces.In this points of view, the movie critisizes the consumption culture of today’s generation.Nowadays, the movies are caring about the visual perfection, and this point with the sweeded version of movies it is not a concern anymore, because in this context, creation becames much more important.In this point, movie tries to send message to audience that the movies are not only for consuming, they shouldn’t consider as durable goods.The concept of the movie is much more different.People should start producing, not just sitting there and just watch it.Watching a movie should lead to creation and production of a new one according the idea of this film.And the idea of nostalgia is also important here.Generally, people complains today’s traditions, and the way of thinking, but what are they doing to change things today or what did they do to not changing?If we are not doing anything to keep things unchanged, then why are we complaining?In this point of view, in the movie our main characters tries to change things, and they are actually doing something to change it.Lastly, gentrification process is also important.It destroys the districts, and send people away from their home which ending up with lost identity of that community.It forces people to live another place.This has a huge effect on noncollectivity which leads to failure to produce as a community, because to create something it requires to everyone participation, it requires to have a culture which takes many many years to come into existence.
In general, this movie is one of the Michael Gondry’s classic.The idea of memory is very important in his movies sames as here.I very enjoyed the movie while watching, and i didn’t see any reason to critisize negatively, because the message and the integrity is superb.
