...Forbidden Tree Callie Franklin HU300 Forbidden Tree As a child, bedtime was the best time of day. Mommy and daddy would look on the bookshelf and find the best exciting stories ever. The majority were old biblical stories that passes from generation to generation. Adam and Eve was the most popular story read to me quite often, a great story. An awesome story line that describes a relationship of betrayal between man, God, and the consequences of disobedience. Adam and Eve contains a countermyth with a countersymbol of the Garden (Janaro, Altshuler, 2011, pg. 47). This story is a great way to help understand whatever is asked of us to do from God or an authority figure, may be for our own good. And it can teach us how to make better choices in life. In The Art of Being Human: The Humanities as a Technique for living, it states that many myth scholars believe that the archetype of the Golden Age had its origins in the biblical account of the Garden, the earthly paradise Adam and Eve called home until they were cast out for eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge (Janaro, Altshuler, 2011, pg. 47). Adam and Eve is a great story that every child should read about. In the beginning God created the heaven, earth, and man. God created Adam and then created Eve from one of Adam’s ribs. They both were in the Garden of Eden and had everything they wanted. But God told them they could eat from any tree they wanted, but not the tree in the middle of the garden....

...IT255 Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) I have reviewed the list of forbidden traffic and came up with this acceptable use policy. Some ports (20&69) would be disabled denying file transfer if all traffic listed is forbidden. I propose the use of content filtering, file transfer monitoring, scanning and alarming for unknown file types from unknown or restricted sources. The restriction on downloading executables could be changed in the same fashion. Both of these guidelines could otherwise interfere with otherwise normal business practice and hinder the productivity of the company. The redistribution copyrighted material is restricted because the system administrator ensures all workstations have what they need. No exporting internal software or technical material in violation of export control laws. If a worker needs such software or material for a location that does not have it then they will be issued license for said use of such property. Workstations will run antivirus and malicious removal software. These programs will be update as new definitions and malicious code data are provided. The organizations data classification standard should address remote access. The company will deny outbound traffic using source IP addresses in access control lists. If remote access is allowed, encrypt where necessary. This will prevent any unauthorized access to internal resources or information from external sources. No unauthorized port scanning or probing on the company’s network...

...Stephanie COM 242 Book Analysis: My Forbidden Face One distinctive theme of this Communication Culture course is the balance between oppression and privilege. These very opposite concepts are seen in almost all of our course readings, films, and discussion board assignments. According to the Fabric of Oppression Theory, privilege is when an individual experiences certain advantages that are based on their race, class, sex, religion, sexual orientation, and able-bodiness (FOOT handout). “The privileged groups have opportunities not provided to other groups because of the current social system in place and may not recognize that they ‘benefit’ from the system” (FOOT handout). Oppression is on the other end of the spectrum and involves an individual lacking the same opportunities as someone who is privileged because of the same sub categories of race, class, sex, religion, sexual orientation, and able-bodiness. Latifa’s novel My Forbidden Face is one that shows many strong examples of oppression for Latifa and her family. Not only do we see disadvantages in her life based on her sex and religion, but the Taliban goes even further to control the people of Kabul by providing restrictions on the media and their everyday routines. Throughout My Forbidden Face, we see the main character of Latifa being oppressed from the very beginning, especially because of her female sex. Outlined by FOOT, we see several “isms” that could be taken out on a person, or group of people. One...

However, we designed the simulator knowing that principal users would be students with no experience, so both the execution and the presentation of the results have been carefully developed. In addition to this, to check the success of PipeSim, a survey has been made among some students that used the simulator. Results reveal that this kind of applications has a great acceptance among students, thought they consider that simulators are complements to the lessons given by the professor and never a substitute for them. ...Feature Article Forbidden Love The novel Girl with a Pearl Earring should definitely be included on the Novel Ideas book club reading list. Elyshia Hickey reveals why this fascinating, historical and romantic story will appeal to an adolescent audience, as it explores the theme of sensual awakening. Set in 17th century Delft, Chevalier’s novel explores the deep but forbidden love between a young maid and her master. The author’s clever combination of an intriguing story, remarkable characters and descriptive language allowed her to explore the themes of forbidden love, predators and sexual desires. For hundreds of years people have wondered who is the girl in the portrait Girl with a Pearl Earring, painted by a Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer in the 17th century and what is the connection between them. This fictional love story by Chevalier explores the sensual relationship between the young lady and the painter. Griet, a seventeen year old girl, narrated the story of her life experiences in the 1600’s, as she transformed from a young girl into a married woman. The narrative structure will appeal to a young adult audience as they will be able to relate to many of Griet’s experiences, especially the encounters she had with men. She was hired as a maid by a rich and famous painter, to help her impoverished family. Vermeer allowed her the privilege of working as his assistant in the studio, which caused much turmoil with his wife. This tension between the characters reads...

...Between 1949 and 1976, China was closed-off to foreigners with the exception of a selected few. During that time, travel and tourism was for all intents and purposes considered a political activity. Domestic tourism hardly existed and outbound travel was limited almost exclusively to government officials. To Chairman Mao Zedong, leisure travel was considered a capitalistic bourgeois activity and therefore forbidden under Marxian principles. Turning point: Shortly after the Chairman's death, China's most famous economic reformist, Deng Xiaoping, opened up the Middle Kingdom to outsiders. Foreign visitors quickly flocked to this once forbidden destination. Contrary to Maoist ideology, Deng saw the monetary potential in tourism and began to promote it intensely. China quickly developed its own travel industry. Major hospitality and transportation facilities were constructed or renovated. New jobs such as service personnel and professional guides were created, and a National Tourism Association was established. Inbound: - In 1978, an estimated 1.8 million tourists entered the country, with the majority coming from neighboring British Hong Kong, Portuguese Macau, and Taiwan. - By 2000, China welcomed over 10 million new oversea visitors, excluding the aforementioned three locations. Tourists from Japan, South Korea, Russia, and the United States comprised the largest share of that inbound population. - In 2010, China became the third most visited country in the world...

...Prometheus' creation of the human race during the creation of the universe was for the sake of humanity, Victor's creation of the creature was for his sole knowledge to only better his curiosity. Some may say Victor Frankenstein does not portray a modern Prometheus. Although he may not be a god, he is to the creature. In Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein is the modern Prometheus. Victor seeks for enlightenment and power, in which, Prometheus does as well.Victor does something forbidden; creating human life. Prometheus also does something forbidden; giving fire to humans. Victor, in return, serves a torturous death, as does Prometheus, although Prometheus cannot die. For these reasons this novel, Frankenstein, shows how Victor is the modern Prometheus. Undoubtedly both Victor Frankenstein and Prometheus seek for enlightenment and power. In the beginning of this novel Victor starts his childhood yearning for knowledge and reading books of science. The quote, “...eager desire to learn,..., secrets of heaven and earth that i desired to learn,..., my inquiries were directed to the metaphysical,…, the physical secrets of the world” (Shelley, 23). It shows how ambitious Victor was to learn as a child and how the start of his seeking for enlightenment and power came to be. Victor also foreshadows how misfortune had tainted his mind, “...misfortune had tainted my mind and changed its bright visions of extensive usefulness into gloomy and narrow reflections…”(Shelley...

Jefferson supports his declaration by listing the injustices and abuses of the British Parliament and explains the natural rights the government is supposed to protect, such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The author's purpose is to justify the colonists’ actions and to formally declare to the world that they have broken away from Britain to obtain a government that will protect the people’s unalienable rights. Jefferson uses an assertive tone for the British Parliament, but also for the world....

According to David Barton, what is the meaning of the commandment “Thou shalt not kill” (Exodus 20:13)? What is forbidden? What is permitted? ...decisions, he or she should have the right lawfully to consume alcohol. In 1984, Congress passed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act, which necessitated that states increase the public possession and buying age of alcohol to 21 or federal funding for highways was reduced. Each state complied to receive its annual allotment. Prior to 1984, the legal drinking age varied for each state. According to the article, “The Top Five Reasons We Should Keep The Drinking Age At 21,” our lives and futures of our children rely on continued support of not lowering the national drinking age. There are valid arguments throughout the article and after researching the data online most of the information is accurate. However, the author did not list any references, which makes the article lose credibility. There are no logical fallacies but without citations, the piece seems like one person’s opinion and not a reliable source. The futures of our children depend on parents and their ability to teach their children to be responsible. Lowering the drinking age will not minimize that fact. Life is about choices and an 18-year-old has plenty to make as an adult. How a parent raises a child helps he or she formulate a strong foundation. Personal values are pertinent when electing not to do drugs, making sexually educated decisions, and pursuing higher education. It is a parent’s task to instill sound principles...

...and on it they abstain from all other work” (Every Good Man is Free 12 §81), and Josephus depicts them as the most strict observers of Sabbath among all Jews: “They are stricter than all Jews in abstaining from work on the seventh day; for not only do they prepare their food on the day before, to avoid kindling a fire on that one, but they do not venture to remove any vessel or even to go to stool” (Jewish War II §147). Furthermore in the Book of Jubilees, it is recorded that the consequence of defiling the Sabbath is death: “Let everyone who will do any work therein die. And also whoever defiles it let him surely die” (Jub. 2:25). It also contains a list of forbidden activities on the Sabbath (Jub. 2:17-31; 50:6-13), which is similar to the list in CD 10:14-11:18. One finds coinciding prohibitions in both lists; however the list in CD is more strict and comprehensive, containing extra measures. The Book of Jubilees proclaims that “whoever will discuss a matter that he will do on it so that he might make on it a journey for any buying or selling” (Jub. 50:8) profanes the Sabbath. This prohibition of talking about financial activity is explored in broader scope and specified in greater detail in CD. Not only should one abstain from discussing his business trip, but also “no man shall speak any vain or idle word on the Sabbath day”. “He shall make no loan to his companion. He shall make no decision in matters of money and gain. He shall say nothing...

...For a long time, scientists used a reliable method to check the effects of new medical treatments on the biological system of humans. Though the method proves to demonstrate sufficient results, the use of animal experimentation is still a controversial issue. Many people argue that it contradicts moral and ethical values because it makes innocent animals suffer or even die. As a result, social activists declare that animal testing must be forbidden on the legislative level, due to the negative consequences which it can cause on the health of animals. However, one cannot agree with the statement because animal testing is the essential condition of the scientific progress and innovation in the medical area. First of all, it must be stated that due to the use of animal testing, scientists managed to find treatment for some serious or even mortal human...

...Legalizing Marijuana Anita L. Lewis Soc.120 Introduction to Ethics& Social Responsibility Jack Isbell March 30, 2013 In 1996 California voters first approved an initiative legalizing possession and sale of marijuana for medical purpose in Proposition, thirteen other states followed suit. In addition, two more states have passed laws that, in one case, permit physicians to prescribe it (Arizona) and in another, allow it medical use as a legal defense in a prosecution for unlawful possession (Maryland): bills to legalize marijuana have been introduced in the state. In 2009 the U.S. Department of Justice (Do) announced that prosecutorial priorities should not target individuals whose actions are in clear and unambiguous compliance with existing state laws providing for the medical use of marijuana.” Judges in states that have legitimized medical marijuana are increasingly faced with the need to decide whether to prohibit medical marijuana use as a condition of probation. In 1972, marijuana was placed in schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, which reflected the U.S. government’s view of it as having” no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States. Specifically, it indicated that individuals with cancer or other serious illness who use medical marijuana and the caregivers who provide the medical marijuana in accordance with state law should not be the focus of federal prosecution. In many of the states that have...
