These tall towers with huge blades move in a circular motion where they capture wind in between the blades. The blades in a turbine are connected to a shaft inside and this only has 18 rpm (rotation per minute), which is nowhere near enough to create electricity for homes. So because of this the shaft is connected to a series of gears that roughly has 1800 rotations per minute.
