...The Dream Team Living The American Dream “If there’s somethin’ strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call (Ghostbusters)?” Anyone who recognizes this catchy tune will know the answer: Ghostbusters! The film Ghostbusters follows Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) as they run a paranormal extermination service in New York City. They go around catching ghosts until they learn about an ancient pair of evil spirits known as “The Keymaster” and “The Gatekeeper” that summon another destructive, shape shifting creature with the power to destroy the world, Gozer. The ghost assumes the form of a giant Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man and begins terrorizing the city. By “crossing the beams” of their special ghost-neutralizing weapons, an action Egon stated would be catastrophic, the Ghostbusters save the day. Directed by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, Ghostbusters endures because it establishes a strong precedent for future film producers with interests in combining elements of comedy and supernaturalism. While it has minor setbacks such as the existence of unnecessary characters, Ghostbusters’ success is driven by the time dedicated by the writer to the character development of the Ghostbusters, Ramis’ deadpan expressions along with Bill Murray’s clever dialogue, and the appeal that Ghostbusters, Inc. had to the audience as a story about running a successful business. The movie is a clever and well written...

...Ceremonial Speech Best Person to Make People Laugh Award Bill Murray To Begin I would like to say one of my favorite quotes of Bill Murray from probably one of his most well known movies. Dr. Peter Venkman (Ghostbusters): "Back off man. I'm a scientist." That is what Bill Murray really is. He is a scientist in real life on how to make people laugh. It has been said that Bill Murray is a hard person to work with on set because he is always changing the script to what he believes is funnier and sometimes doesn’t even resemble what he was scripted to do. All of these directors though ticked off at the time do agree with the changes that Bill made because it is funnier than what was written. Bill Murray was born in Wilmette, Illinois, USA on September 21, 1950. When Bill was young he was quite a mischievous child, managing to get himself kicked out of both the Boy Scouts and Little League Baseball. He had his young rebellious years growing up and he was going in the wrong direction after he dropped out of college. He recognized this and decided to join his older brother, Brian Doyle-Murray, in the cast of Chicago's Second City improvisational comedy troupe. Murray eventually moved to New York City where he took his comedic talents on air in National Lampoon Hour alongside Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner and John Belushi. In 1975, both Murray brothers were in an off-Broadway spin-off of the radio show when Bill was spotted by sportscaster Howard Cosell, who recruited...

...Summary In the case, commonly known in the legal world as the Ghostbusters ruling, the plaintiff (Jeffrey M. Stambovsky) alleges that Ackley and her real estate broker, defendant Ellis Realty, made material misrepresentations of the property in that they failed to disclose that Ackley believed that the house was haunted by poltergeists. Moreover, the plaintiff presented evidence that Ackley shared this belief with her community and the general public through articles published in the local newspaper. In November 1989, approximately two months after the parties entered into the contract of sale but subsequent to the scheduled closing, the house was included in a five-house walking tour and again described in the local newspaper as being haunted....

...Far from finished in the business of chick flicks, 2016 will once again have McCarthy and Kristen Wiig co-starring on screen in a film written and directed by Paul Feig called Ghostbusters. As bBig as a film fan as I may be, I still can't quite put my finger on what it is about rebooting decades- old franchises that appeals so much to contemporary filmmakers.; I get that show business is still a business, and nothing gets the lowest common denominator paying for movie tickets quite like familiarity, but it still stinks of writer’s block and stagnant creativity. Feig, mistakenly believing that a change this drastic was necessary or creative, decided to cast four women in the roles of the four Ghostbusters. In the wake of what I consider to be pretty reasonable criticisms, Feig accused his detractors of spouting, in his words, “vile, and misogynist...

...slang catches my attention when I’m reading her articles and it makes her seem more down to earth. After reading Thomas Friedman’s articles I found that he is particularly skilled at coving topics dealing with foreign affairs. His outstanding knowledge in globalization makes him especially good at covering this topic. In 1995 Friedman was The New York Times’ foreign-affairs columnist. His articles pertaining to foreign affairs show that he has and exceptional understanding on what maneuvers will help The United States the most. Another strong point of Dowd’s writing is her incorporation of popular culture into her writing. In her article titled “Daisy Chain of Cheneys” she refers to the theme song of the popular movie Ghostbusters by making her own parody called “Obamabusters.” In her article, “Nuking the White House,” Dowd can be seen making referring to the television show...

...wants to show to those people how precious old times were compared to today’s world, and today’s generation. With this, it also starts to show how the gentrification process affected, and changed people’s life styles.I want to share my opinions on those ideas which i stated. First of all, the idea of remaking process is very interesting. From the Michael Gondry’s points of view, the remaking process is reference of the idea of memory. In this context, when they start filming, and remaking those films, they are making it a different way, they are making it according to what they remember, which is very different from the original movie, and in this process, they are also creating, adding new ideas on scenes. For example, why did they shoot ghostbusters first? And why did they shoot the movie in library? The similarity between a video store and library is interesting. They both are similar archives of cultural and literary productions, and both of them are public spaces. In this points of view, the movie critisizes the consumption culture of today’s generation.Nowadays, the movies are caring about the visual perfection, and this point with the sweeded version of movies it is not a concern anymore, because in this...

Images horror seen by many, were temporary blinded after witnessing multiple nude photographs of Jones. The photos that appear to show the star engaging in inhumane sexual acts were leak, also included scans of her passport, as well as of her California driver’s license. Doctors have reported that the mass temporary blindness is equivalent to looking at a solar eclipse without any protective lenses. The files were reportedly posted on her personal website, http://justleslie.com, for a short time, which thankfully kept the tragedy to a minimum since no one goes there. Due to a lack of fans and the fact that the website was...

...was for the entertainment of sex. Report author Emma Fulu summarizes it as “They believed they had the right to have sex with the woman regardless of consent”. Sex is never owed, or obliged. However, that thought is clearly present within society. So where does this sense of male entitlement come from? The concept is heavily woven into our society. As summarized by Cracked’s David Wong, "We were told this by every movie, TV show, novel, comic book, video game and song we encountered. When the Karate Kid wins the tournament, his prize is a trophy and Elisabeth Shue. Shia LaBeouf gets Megan Fox in Transformers, Iron Man gets Pepper Potts, the hero in Avatar gets the hottest Na'vi, Shrek gets Fiona, Bill Murray gets Sigourney Weaver in Ghostbusters. Hell, at the end of An Officer and a Gentleman, Richard Gere walks into the lady's workplace and just carries her out like he's picking up a suit at the dry cleaner”. Now, this isn’t necessarily an attack on these movies themselves, but it is undeniable that these plot lines instill male entitlement as a social norm. Young boys are trained from an early age to expect some type of special “thank you” from woman for being their saviors, their knights in shining armor. It’s these expectations that cause the same boys later in highschool to feel betrayed when the girl they flirted with for so long tells them she just wants to be friends and then even later in life to become angered when a woman they’re on a date with refuses to “put out”...

...This is of course not true. Most movies have a three-to-one ratio of male characters to female characters. Even movies where the lead character is female, majority of the cast is male. A big example of this is Disney princess movies. Snow White was the first of the Disney princesses and she was surrounded by seven dwarves. The most recent Disney princess, Moana, was one of only a few female characters to have a speaking part. Even though movies are beginning to break away from this stereotype, the films that still follow it greatly outnumber the films breaking it. The Ghostbusters remake, featuring a main cast of females, did not do nearly as well as the original movie. This movie was also criticized for being a terrible remake (Gender in Media: The Myths &...

...script. At least, that is what some lawyers and journalists seem to be telling us. According to news reports, the hit movie Forrest Gump, which won “Best Picture of 1994” honors at the Academy Awards, claimed a worldwide theatrical gross of $661 million through May of 1995. That amount excludes videocassette and soundtrack revenues, and it doesn’t include licensing fees of Forrest Gump products such as wristwatches, ping-pong paddles and shrimp cookbooks. Yet, according to Paramount Studios, the film project lost $56 million dollars on a box office gross of $382 million through December, 1994 (see Exhibit 1). Forrest Gump is the latest of a string of hit movies to report a loss. Other losers include Batman, Rain Man, Dick Tracy, Ghostbusters, Alien, On Golden Pond, Fatal Attraction, and Coming to America. Each of these motion pictures grossed well over $100 million, but in each case, costs were reportedly greater than revenues. The production costs for a film, part of what the studios refer to as “negative costs”, represents only part of the cost of the project. In addition, studios add promotion and distribution costs, advertising overhead, and distribution fees to the total negative costs to get the total cost of the project. A significant portion of the negative costs is the payments made to “gross participants” on the basis of a percentage of gross revenues. This leads to what Hollywood accountants and lawyers refer to as the “rolling break.” Two of the costs (the...

...“Rain, oh rain my solace and peace. Grant me a night of quite solid sleep.” This was the mantra of a particular insomniac named Zephyr. Now Zephyr was a young lad about the age of 20 who simply wanted a good nights rest and to perform his music for the entire world to see and hear. As it turns out its hard to focus without any sleep so night after night he hoped and prayed for a good nights rest but nothing work. He tried counting sheep, dogs, horses, parrots [that got tricky with each one saying there number repeatedly], cows, ducks, moose, cats, ninjas, samurai, that green ghost from the Ghostbusters film, and so much more. Nothing worked and as time passed by he was growing less and less focused so things were starting to slip through his hands like his musicianship. Learning all the instruments he had up to that point was a challenge and feeling it slip away as he was engulfed in a sea of confusion night after night was more nerve racking than anything else. One night he just couldn’t take the silence of his room so he went for a run. Angry confused and fatigued he thought this run wouldn’t last too long but as he took each step and listened to his favorite Steely Dan song he felt it all slip away. The anger confusion and fatigue faded into the background. So he ran and that night he reached about 4 miles and decided to stop not knowing where he was, so he turned around and went right back the way he came again faded into his music concerned with nothing else but the next...

...[pic] Fred W. Riggs: Contributions to the Study of Comparative Public Administration Howard E. McCurdy, American University [pic] In 1962, the Ford Foundation presented the Comparative administration Group (CAG), a special division of the American Society for public Administration, with one-half million dollars to study methods for improving public administration in developing countries. Public administration had passed recently through a period of widespread optimism about the power of administrative reform. Many practitioner-scholars believed that administration could be improved through the implementation of correct principles. Scarcely 25 years earlier Luther Gulick had suggested that experts were on the verge of discovering principles of administration as immutable as the laws of physics and chemistry. Scholars had rediscovered Woodrow Wilson's dictum that good administrative practices did not depend upon the type of regimen which they were practiced. The United States had achieved great success in reconstructing the economies of Europe and Asia through instruments such as the Marshall Plan. President John F. Kennedy had established the Peace Corps as a means of bringing "trained manpower" to less developed lands. With these trends to inspire them, scholars both prominent and apprentice traveled to foreign countries to share their knowledge about public administration. Many arrived in countries newly emerging from the grip of colonialism and struggling to establish...
