...Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (14:6 NIV). He is telling Thomas that because he knows him (Jesus) that he knows the way to his Father. In Christianity, Jesus is the source of all truth. I believe that everyone has their own version of the truth. Just as Christian’s have their belief, modernists have their own version as do postmodernists have their own. I however don’t have a strong biblical background or knowledge, so my truth varies from all three. If you ask a modernist what they think truth means they would tell you that everything needs be rationally explained. If you were to ask a postmodernist what they believe truth is they would tell you...

...I believe that the concept of God is illogical. As God is the Supreme Being, he has a quantity of divine attributes such as: omniscience, omnipotence, Omni-benevolence, supreme goodness, eternal, self-sufficient, perfect, and everlasting, transcendence and immanence. In this essay, I will be looking at God's omnipotence, through the Stone Paradox, his omniscience, through the Free Will Paradox and Gods 'omniscience and immutability' and showing how they are not comprehensible. Firstly, The Paradox of the Stone tests God's omnipotence. The dilemma is that either God can create a stone which He cannot lift, or He cannot create a stone which He cannot lift. If God can create a stone which He cannot lift, then He is not omnipotent (as He cannot lift the Stone). If God cannot create a stone which He cannot lift, then He is not omnipotent (since He cannot create the stone). Consequently, either way God is not omnipotent as there is something He cannot do. The first objection to the Stone Paradox is from George Mavrodes. He argues that the paradox is logically impossible. The claim that someone, x, can make something too heavy for x to lift is not generally self-contradictory. However, it becomes self-contradictory when x is omnipotent. An omnipotent being that cannot lift a stone is logically impossible because it is self-contradictory and describes nothing. Hence, there is no possible power for an omnipotent being to create a stone they cannot lift. So if God is omnipotent, and...

...What would you say to me if I told you that I do not believe in “words.” More than likely you are thinking, “Are you kidding me? That is foolish. You don’t believe in words? Come on! That is ridiculous!” Everyone believes that words exist. It would be foolish to pull out a dictionary and to try to prove to the person that makes such a claim that words exist. It is clear that He is, as we examined last month, suppressing a truth that is evident to all. He is a fool. He instead needs to be shown how foolish and contradictory such a claim is. It is self-refuting. You cannot claim that words do not exist without using them. This is what we must show this person to show them how ridiculous a statement this is. What do we say when someone says they do not believe in God? Do we respond in the same way? Not usually. Usually we respond by trying to give a list of evidences to the truth that God exists, when the Bible says that they already know that God exists. Instead, we should be responding with the same attitude that we would respond with if someone said they didn't believe in words. Just as the person who is suppressing the truth about the existence of words, so to is the one who claims that God does not exist. Remember what God says in Romans 1 (which we looked at last week)? Everyone is without excuse for rejecting the God they know exists. They are foolish for doing so. You cannot even make the argument that God does not exists unless God DOES exist, let alone prove it. This...

...On the Night You Were Born II Kings 17:6-14 and Luke 15:17-24 Rev. Dr. Zina Jacque August 29, 2010 Beloved of God, do you know, have you ever wondered what happened on the night you were born. My family story holds that somewhere around the end of August in 1956 Dr. E.L.C. Broomes told my Mother not to get her hopes too high. After all, this was her fifth pregnancy, and though she had finally moved beyond the 30 week mark, she still had many weeks to go and she should not get her hopes too high. There was no guarantee this baby would make it. But then, on the evening of October 30th, sometime after dinner, something within my mother moved, something within her said, it is time and all the world stood still for my parents, all of the world held its breath. I do not know what thoughts ran through my mother’s mind or my father’s heart in those hours before I was born; but I know once I had arrived, once they held me in their arms, they began to rejoice. Nancy Tillman, in her book On the Night You Were Born, gives voice to the rhythm of words that might have been spoken on night you and I were born:1 On the night you were born the moon smiled with wonder. The stars peeked in to see you, all safe and tucked under And the night wind whispered and called you by name And said with a sigh, life will never be the same So enchanted with you were the wind and the rain They too whispered the sound of your wonderful name. Your name sailed past houses, high on the breeze Over oceans and mountains...

...Worldview Philosophy I was born and admitted into Christianity by means of baptism. Yes, I was born into Christianity and being born into Christianity; I go to church because my parents and family go to church. I say my prayers because my parents and family would say their prayers. I took the catechism class because my family said it is part of being a Christian. What I’m implying is that, as a child my worldview began developing through family influences and then from community surroundings like school, church, companions and so forth. It was not until I transferred to Grand Canyon University (GCU) and engaged into the Christian Worldview class that made my Christian worldview extremely clear and solid. In week one, Professor Todd, challenged each and one of us in his class by using series of questions to help us evaluate our worldviews. This question speaks of belief in God, human nature, metaphysical reality, knowledge, ethics, human purpose and consistency in daily life. The questions were: Who is God and what are His characteristics? What is a human being and what happens when one dies? What is the nature of the universe? How do you know what you know and how do you know what is true? What is right and wrong or how can we know that there is a right and wrong? Is life pointless or is there purpose? What core commitments are consistent with my worldview and how do they make an impact on my life? Who is God and what are His characteristics? We have one God who lives as our...

...Lamca When it come’s to a worldview, I could never figure mine out. I have never been to church and I have never prayed for anything, but I always had a belief that there was a God. After studying different views, I found myself being a theistic worldview because I believe in a God but haven’t studied much a bout that God. Who is God and what are His characteristics? “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Therefore, God created earth and everything on earth including humans. “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!” (Romans 11:33) There are many characteristics or attributes of God. God is all-powerful; His power is unlimited. God imposes the only limitation on His power. (Genesis 18:25) God is all knowing, He possesses all knowledge. Since God is everywhere at one time, He knows everything. What is the nature of the universe? I have two different opinions about this question. First, I believe that God created the universe and the nature of the universe is to show us how great and powerful God is. My second opinion or thought is if God did create the universe to show us how powerful He is does he protect other forms of life in the universe? What is a human being and what happens when one dies? A human being is a creation of God that consists of a spirit and soul. From what I have learned in this class, God has an image of a human, creates that human...

...life before I came to Christ was like a baby with no worries to an adult with trials and tests. A baby is a child not knowing anything about life but on the other hand adults know about God and sin. I was very young when I got saved but did not know much about the higher power. I joined church because I was going every Sunday and going to church was a most in our home. I did not know much then about Christ but thanks to be God I do now. At that early age I sinned and did not know it was a sin but God casted all my sins back then and threw them in the sea of forgiveness. See I now know that sins come up because we are human but God said cast all our problems to him and leave them with him for he is a forgiving GOD, what a blessing. I truly need God every second, minute, and hour of my life. I would be lost in this world, for I need him in everthing I do. Before I even wake up and my feet hit the floor I thank Him for his Grace and Mercy. I thank Him for the struggles in my life as well. The struggles have made me a better and stronger person. I use to ask questions to God, "why is this happening?", not knowing tests and trials were underway. Even though the storms were a test, God was working it out all along. God is a God that well never leave nor forsake you-(Hebrew 13:5). As I got older I was getting wiser about this journey of life. I really do believe that God is forgiver and will forgive you of your sins. I was young at church when I decided to have...

...Our life has a Destiny. There is no Accident. God has Great Plan for our life. God’s Game Plan (Sport game?)I realized that when we play team game sports, it is important to have a game plan. In order for you to be victorious in a game, there must be a plan. God has a game plan in our life. But the problem is we also have our own plan. The same with our life we need to learn to follow the game plan of God in our life for us to be victorious and successful. Pero ang tanong is kaya ba natin mag follow and submit sa gameplan ng panginoon sa life naten? But the problem to many Christian’s today is that have our own game plan. Pero kahit anong gawin natin ang plano parin ng diyos ang mananaig sa life natin. Psalms 33:11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. Whatever the plan that we have, it will never change the plan of God.- Many People bargain the plan of God because we thought we can change the plan of God.- Tapos nagtataka ka bakit kung bakit yung life mo hindi victorious, kasi hindi mo iniimbrace ang plano ng Lord sa life mo. Kasi feeling natin mas matalino tayo kay Lord. (revised version) - Isaiah 55:8-9 We could compare the plan of God in our plan it is different (napakalayo) 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. - 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts...

...why I live and perceive the world in the way I do. It is responsible for my presuppositions or assumptions that I hold in response to the basic makeup of the world around me. My worldview has been shaped and grown over the years by a plethora of influences. My family, friends, relationships, teachers, and even strangers have impacted my life in one way or another and helped create my take on life. This personal worldview paper has forced me to really think about what I believe in regards to the nature of reality, how I know that reality, as well as how I will act in response to what I know about my reality. Personally, my family has had a big influence on my life. We always went to church growing up and I have continued to do so throughout my days at Whitworth because I believe that God eternally exists and that he is the creator of everything from life on earth to the heaves, has died for my sins, and all in-between. This is something that has been a consistent belief of...

...have been opened over and over again to the way I think about different worldviews. A person’s worldview is determined though their beliefs and their morals. Though my worldview is Christian someone else’s can be completely different. Just because someone’s worldview is different than mine does not mean that their worldview is wrong. Worldview is different for each individual but they can still have the same set of ethics and morals. From a young age my grandmother brought me up with a Christian worldview and its beliefs. I know that God is the creator of all things in the universe. I know this because it is in the Bible. The nature of the universe came into existence all because of God. God created the nature of the universe to show his love for all things that he created. After God created the universe he made man out of his own image and he was pleased. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God knew that he had to punish them. I do not think that God wanted to punish them, but he had to teach them wrong and right. Now days we have the Bible and God’s words to tell us how we should act and what things are right and wrong. In everyday life we are faced with situations that we must choose what to do. God knows that as humans we are not perfect and will from time to time sin. God loves us so much though that he sent his son to Earth to die on the cross for our sins. By Jesus dying we are able to be forgiven for our sins if we turn to God and ask for his forgiveness. If we live right when...

...Who God Is In My Life My worldview has evolved and grown as a result of my upbringing and continuing knowledge of what I know about the world. God is three persons in one divine essence (Classroom Midterm Study Guide). Each of the three persons is necessary to form the Trinitarian. God is made up of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God the Father is our invisible God and as a result he sends the Son who is our visible image of the invisible God. The Son sends the Spirit who is illuminated by the Son. When seeing the Son by the Spirit you see the Father and as a result you have one perfect individual we call God. Our purpose here as humans is to participate in the beauty, goodness, love, glory, and truth of God’s life (Study Guide). He heals and strengthens us in times of need, knows our every thought and move, and is always looking down on us to protect us through whatever it is we may go through. There is not another all-powerful God out there that can do the impossible like God can. When speaking of death it really depends on what we mean by “life” and vice versa. “Charismatic Christians, for example, might well align ‘life’ with the ‘Holy Spirit’ as imaginary partners constituting this dynamic form of spirituality” (Davies, 2008, p. 153). As long as one has remained loyal and faithful to our God over his/her lifetime, they will go to Heaven and get the blessing of sitting before God. As for those who are not believers, they will not experience the joy of God because...

...breaks the enemies' bow that was drawn against them. No weapon formed against Zion shall prosper, Isa 54:17. The total destruction of Gog and Magog is prophetically described by the burning of their weapons of war (Ezek 39:9,10), which intimates likewise the church's perfect security and assurance of lasting peace, which made it needless to lay up those weapons of war for their own service. The bringing of a long war to a good issue is a work of the Lord, which we ought to behold with wonder and thankfulness. II. As King of saints, and as such we must own that great and marvellous are his works, Rev 15:3. He does and will do great things, 1. For his own glory (v. 10): Be still, and know that I am God. (1.) Let his enemies be still, and threaten no more, but know it, to their terror, that he is God, one infinitely above them, and that will certainly be too hard for them; let them rage no more, for it is all in vain: he that sits in heaven, laughs at them; and, in spite of all their impotent malice...

...Who is God? God is God. God is different to different people, to many He is the Almighty, conquering and definite epitome of a hero. And to some he is a Saviour, friend and companion. And to others, God is everything. He is a friend, the pillow that they cry on, and the One who is with them in battles. He is the Almighty and the friend. And ultimately God is our Saviour. We as humans are needy, according to C.S Lewis, we have this innate need for love, and care and affection; how much ever we try to deny it, called Need-Love. It is the kind of love that we require when we feel alone or scared. We are needy, and we go to God when we are needy. It is this sweet spot that God tells us to translate in ourselves and be kind and generous to those who are in need. We have this need to clean this record of all the wrong and start anew; we can have this with God. We need someone who is going to accept us with grace no matter what our history or track record shows. God tells the Israelites to be Holy for He is also Holy. God calls them out to be generous and kind to those who are needy. God reminds them that they too were once in bondage, and that God had delivered them from this bondage. In the Old Testament, Israelites are shown to do this by adhering to the festival of Sabbath. Sabbath is the day where they follow the example of God, whereby God created the entire universe and rested on the seventh day. The Israelites in the same way practiced Sabbath in their daily lives....

...12/6/13 Prof. Sharpe God has been a very important part of my live since I was a very little girl. When I was only a couple of months old I was baptized. That was my first spiritual encounter with God. I then proceeded to commit my first communion in third grade. I then received my confirmation when I was in eighth grade. Like I said before God has been a very important part in my life for a very long time. Who is God? What are his characteristics? I believe that God is the person who created me and he is the person I believe in. I also think that God is the creator of the world and that has control over everything that happens in my life. I think that some of God’s characteristics are that he has the ability to make things happen. I think that he makes certain things happen for a reason. I also believe that one of God’s characteristics is to be there for you in your time of need. I believe this because god knows what you can and cannot do. God is not going to give you something that he thinks that you are going to fail at, I believe that he is going to challenge us a human beings but I believe that he is going to challenge us with things that he knows that we can do. A human being is a person that God puts on the earth to represent him in some way. I believe that God makes all human beings different because he wants us to be our own person but still reflect him in someway. I believe that when a person dies another person is born. I believe this because God is going to call...
