...Hanging of the Mouse “Hanging of the Mouse” is one of the most touching stories I have ever read. It talks about how in the old days, to teach moral lessons, they hung the prisoner(s). People would watch them publicly, and the people would enjoy them. The people saw it as a source of entertainment. They believed that by watching them, it would teach people that if you do something wrong you would be punished. Something more like a moral lesson. Bishop would not agree to this. I believe that she does not believe in public executions. Just seeing the fake mouse hanging over the chair made her feel unpleasant. Just imagining the little feet curling up when the mouse finally passed, just got to her. Actually witnessing an execution, I believe, would make her not feel like it was a moral lesson learned. It would only make her feel uncomfortable inside. “Who hangs one corrects a thousand.” I believe Bishop would not agree with this either. Again I think it makes her feel very uneasy. Also I think she believes in a fair fight. Whoever did wrong should be able to maybe get out on parole or good behavior. Sometimes when you make mistakes it may not be on purpose. Some people act on impulse. Another reason that she may not believe is because even though people have watched these executions, they still commit crimes. So this just proves that even though you are trying to show a “moral lesson” people do not take it that way. It is just like they used this source of punishment as...

...the criminal mouse be hung for his crime. Some of the animals that play major roles in the story are a large beetle, raccoon, and a praying mantis. The specifics of each animal in the hanging are “A raccoon, wearing the traditional black mask, was the executioner…..A large praying mantis was in charge of the religious end of the ceremonies.” (Barnet, Cain, & Burto, 2010) The animals during the execution had a hard time watching the mouse death. “It was all so touching that a cat, who had brought her child in her mouth, shed several large tears. They rolled down on to the child’s back and he began to squirm and shriek, so that the mother thought that the sight of the hanging had perhaps been too much for him.” (Barnet, Cain, & Burto, 2010) The large beetles were the soldiers because of their armor shells. The raccoons as executioner, because of the black mask the raccoons are made with. A praying mantis had the duty of taking charge of the religious ceremony, since they are “praying” since it is part of their name and is linked to religion. Not knowing what the mouse did criminally, he seemed remorseful. All the animals in the crowd seemed to be happy that the mouse was about to get death. The writer implies that the mouse has done something serious to get death as a penalty, but the writer does not say what the mouse crime was. The writer leaves the readers in suspense of what the mouse crime was to get death. When the Bullfrog emerged to read the verdict of the mouse, couldn’t...

He is an entire future nation (Bradbury 291.) Bradbury in a very concise matter of fact manner, explains the horrendous magnitude of one single mishap. Whereas, Skurzynski uses no science in Nethergrave. Technologically A Sound of Thunders uses the time machine, as well as the gravity walkway. While Nethergrave uses the computer and computer graphics. Bradbury is very descriptive in explaining the time machine. He states that it is a mass and tangle, a snaking and humming of wires and steel boxes, at an aurora that flickered now orange, now silver, now blue (Bradbury 288.) There is a sound like a gigantic bonfire burning all of Time, a touch of one hand...

He had proven that He loves them and always did what was best for them. Israel never deserved any of this and they disobeyed God many different times. ...At the very bottom of the painting, there is a small mouse that is shaded dark but as the viewer's eyes move more to the right there is a hairless bright pink mouse with an ear growing out of its back. The change in color has to do with the importance of mouse and what the artist is trying to bring attention to. The mouse with an ear was used to bring awareness to not only genetic engineering but animal cruelty. The mouse had an artificial human ear growing out of it in order for humans to use it for transplants. Also the viewer's attention is automatically brought to the oversized bright red tomatoes that are squished in the basket which creates a sense of curiosity and shock. These objects make the viewers question the use of genetic engineering and the harmful effects it could bring for future...

...know better than to go poking her nose into another man's business.” Slim sighed, “Aint no need for her being in the barn, aint no need for her talking to any man but her own. “Didn't deserve a thing,” George continued, “Man had never done anything to intentionally hurt even the smallest mouse, didn't judge or hate anyone.” George began to laugh “Hell, at least now I don't got to worry about anyone but myself. I can take my pay at the end of every month and go stay at a cat house.” He laughed harder, “Hell maybe I'll even be able to get myself a girl! Now that I aint got no stupid bastard lingering behind me anymore.” George began to weep “At least one of my dreams came true.” Tears hit the wooden floor as George sobbed and sobbed. The first ray of moonlight shone through a window onto Slim's hanging head. An old gentleman who's face could not be seen sat in a corner making no movements at all. A mouse scurried across the bar before the bartender crushed it with his own fist, “Damn rats, nasty things they are.” “Yeah, nasty things they are,” George cleared his throat, “I'll throw that away for you.” The bartender waved him off, “Oh no sir thats fi-” but George had already scooped the mouse up and walked away. George looked down at the little thing, lifeless in his...

...THE LION AND THE MOUSE Once when a Lion was asleep, a little Mouse began running up and down upon him. This soon wakened the Lion, who placed his huge paw upon him and opened his big jaws to swallow him. "Pardon, O King!" cried the little Mouse, "Forgive me this time. I shall never repeat it and I shall never forget your kindness. And who knows, but I may be able to do you a good turn one of these days?" The Lion was so tickled at the idea of the Mouse being able to help him that he lifted up his paw and let him go. Sometime later a few hunters captured the King and tied him to a tree while they went in search of a wagon to carry him on. Just then the little Mouse happened to pass by, and seeing the sad plight in which the Lion was, ran up to him and soon gnawed away the ropes that bound the King of the Beasts. "Was I not right?" said the little Mouse, very happy to help the Lion. Questions: 1. What is the title of the story? 2. Who are the characters in the story? 3. ...Article Rebuttal – Against Removing Illegal Alien Amnesty Kubani L. Brown BCOM/275 12/22/2014 Charles Cattermole Article Rebuttal This country that we live in and are all apart of was built from the ground up by immigrants. There are however people and organizations out there that have forgotten this fact. They feel that this country does not need any more immigrants and that they are hurting our country economically. Hurting Americans Dan Stein, President of FAIR(Federation for American Immigration Reform) stated that, “There is no justification for an illegal alien amnesty, no justification for adding new guest workers at a time when so many working Americans are hurting, and there is never any justification for using our troops to pass special interest legislation.” Mr. Stein does not provide any factual data supporting his claims that illegal alien amnesty is and will hurt working Americans. It is a well-known fact that politicians will attach other measures into bills that do not have anything to do with the main part of the bill. This practice happens all the time and will always happen. The majority of illegal aliens that come to our country just want the chance to provide and take care of their families. Most are not criminals but are hardworking people. They work the jobs that most Americans will not work. Providing them amnesty will allow them to stop living in the shadows and be able to have the same rights that most Americans...

...Business Decision Making Part I Business Decision Making Part I Data sets are useful when the need to analyze and answer questions come into play. With the real estate data chosen by our team, we were able to see the need for a few answers right off the bat. With multiple variables present, a few questions that came to mind were; what is the average price of a 4 bedroom house, does square footage affect the price of a home, and even does the amount of bedrooms and bathrooms affect the price of a home? These are all great questions surrounding the data and the question we chose to answer is; does square footage directly affect the price of a home? This posed as a great question for first time home buyers and those that are already in a house. This provides great details into what size house a family may need, and what they can realistically afford. Data The variables we are working with will be the size and price of the real estate. These two variables provide the insight into what size house alters what pricing tier within the real estate market. ...Ethical Scenario Name ETH/316 Due Date Instructor Ethical Scenario I have chosen to write about “To Drill or Not to Drill”. Within this paper, it will describe the relationship between critical thinking and ethics, the moral responsibility of all participant, the stakeholders moral failings, the ideals or obligations that are in conflict, and the best outcome. In “To Drill or Not to Drill” it is about Wyoming’s Upper Green River Valley’s wildlife, basically having to compete with gas and oil companies for the land. The wildlife have to pass through this valley on their long migration to their winter pastor in the High Desert. Within the land that the wildlife has to travel contains roughly 20 trillion cubic feet of gas miles beneath the surface. Many companies want to drill the area for the natural gas. According to the transcript, requests for drilling have went from 75 applications in 1998 to 300 in 2003. The moral responsibility of the participants is to allow companies to put the drill rigs on the land where it won’t disturb the path of migration for the wildlife. The moral failings is that the wildlife, during their migration, have to cross many, many fences and also cross highways and in some cases some of the wildlife don’t make it. The conflict is that this land has a lot of wildlife and the placement of the drill rigs disturbs that and can...

...Reducing Poverty in America Kimberly Dotson HUM/114 February 24, 2015 Marissa Long Reducing Poverty in America Step 1: What is the Problem? Poverty in America. Step 2: What are the alternatives? What are the boundaries? 1. America is the leading world country, yet there is a huge national deficit. 2. Decision makers do not recognize or acknowledge an issue with poverty in America. What are possible alternatives? 1. Review the current national budget and look at where money is being spent unnecessarily or excessively, and how it can be transferred. 2. Support American business to be able to increase their workforce for the United States, rather than export work. 3. Bring the issue to the forefront to influence decision makers in Washington D.C. Step 3: Pro’s and Con’s of each alternative 1. National Budget Review Pro’s: Taking a specific look at the budget and asking for justification of expenditures can identify areas where dollars are being spent unnecessarily, rather than have a general overview of budgetary expenditures Con’s: Decision makers have their own forum and agenda’s they want funding for. 2. Support American Business Owners Pro’s: More start-up businesses that can generate jobs Con’s: Labor costs are higher in the U.S. than exporting jobs, and U.S. employment laws and restrictions such as insurance costs the owner more 3. Bringing...

...Inclusion Position Joshua Callahan Edu/105 September 7, 2015 University of Phoenix Inclusion Position All students do have the right to be instructed in the regular education classroom. Some people fear that it will be more detrimental to students with disabilities learning process as the class will be too far advanced. Other parents feel that the students who are on track with their learning feel that too much time will be taken out on the students who may learn differently than the rest. “Many students with learning disabilities benefit from being served in the regular education classroom.” (Learning Disabilities Association of America, 2015). My position is that all students should be allowed to learn on the same level, and the one’s who need further help will be able to receive it. The inclusion of special education students in the classroom can effect it in many ways. The challenges are that the students with the disabilities may feel overwhelmed and it could not benefit them because of the excess of information. Another challenge would be for the students that are not special needs, as the teachers may have to spend more time with the other students and not enough time with them. The benefits are that everyone feels equal. The children learn to work together and help one another on things that may not be able to happen in a special needs classroom. It teaches the students that everyone is different, and that acceptance is key within the community. The Brown...
