...Do school systems care more about grades than students? School systems constantly shove grades down students throats. Neil deGrasse Tyson is an american astrophysicist, cosmologist, author, and science communicator. He once said “When students cheat on exams it’s because our school system values grades more than students value learning.” The school systems define students by their grades, grading isn’t always the same, and students are cheating instead of learning the material. The school system cares more about the grades they get funded for than the students in their schools. Most students feel as that they are defined by a letter grade giving to them. To the school system students are just a number in the computer and based on letter grades. The school system doesn’t see the struggles of your personal life. Teachers assign homework after and hour and a half class, but students with after school activities don’t have time for homework. Your homework is part of your grade and teachers still expect...

...I constructed the letter A. The way I built my letter resembled an isoceles triangle. My letter has two sides that are the same length and two of base angles are the same in length. The definintion of an isoceles triangle is a triangle with two sides of equal length and two congruent base angles. The letter A I built and isoceles triangle are almost a perfect match. Another geometry concept that connectes with my letter, A was an acute angle. An acute angle is an angle that is less than 90 degrees. The triangle inside the letter A I constructed has an acute angle. The triangle has 3 angles that are acute all are less than 90 degrees and will add up to 180 degrees. The final concept I thought my letter connects with is parallel lines. The two lines in the center of the letter A are parallel to eachother, the two lines will never cross eachother or intersect. Parallel lines are lines in a plane that will not touch, cross, or intersect even when the lines are extended. The two lines in the center are not the only ones that are parallel to each other, the one line on top of my letter and the other thats on the bottom are also parallel. Those are the three geometry concepts I thought my letter connected with. My first semester of geometry did not go as well as I would have liked it to go. I failed most of the tests and quizzes because I was not responsible and did not do the homework assigned and study the reviews given. Despite all my failures this semester I always went to the...

...English 93 Time in prison is the hardest time to serve 20% of prisoners succumb to their own demise due to the hardship of doing time. In the reading Time by Nathan McCall a dilemma of having to serve a long prison sentence becomes harder as time passes mentally and even physically. Long prison sentences break the prisoner down mentally. Inmates have to pass time in jail by getting jobs or playing cards and other games for the mind and having interaction with other inmates talking about the good ol’days or past crimes they committed. Prisoners have to learn how to survive prison while other inmates fight or pick a fight with them over an issue in jail or even an incident that went on outside of jail. Inmates stay strong by working out and going in to the yard and seeing other inmates, it gives them that sense of being out on the street and making their rounds around the neighborhood. A person of weaker character would break down knowing that they have 20 plus years to serve in prison but that’s not a macho thing for a guy not to handle their time. It’s the hope of being released and going home that prisoners really hold on to so they can remain focused and they can do their time and not let the time do them. Sometimes though no matter how...

...During an exploration of war-related literature, this school year, the majority being anti-war statements, brought us to a letter written by Sandy Kemper. Within the letter written by Sandy, about his involvement in Vietnam, he shows us the contemptuous nature of war and conveys a hateful attitude favoring his surroundings. Kemper employs sarcasm, strong tone, asyndeton, and other sue of rhetorical devices, to tell "Mom, Dad, Shrub, the Egg and Peach", and in the aftermath, the rest of us, the truth of war. Early Greeks and Romans wrote of war, along with many others over centuries and centuries of time. This letter has made an enormous impact on me, and my thoughts on war. The firm, angry tone of Kemper has brought about many anti-war feelings within my soul. The books, A Fable, Catch 22, and Company K all contain anti-war themes within them. Sandy's letter has all the components and characteristics to fit right in alongside these writings....

...No matter what someone may tell you, writing is a critical skill in daily life. Whether you’re writing a business email or a text message, it’s important to understand the fundamentals of English. As writers, we all have our strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Nobody is perfect, and that’s okay. English is one of the hardest languages in the world, after all. I think I’ve always been good at allowing my voice to flow in the essays I write. It’s a very tricky skill, but after years of writing for different classes, It’s a skill that kind of develops on its own. The different between an okay essay and a great essay is being able to hear and understand the voice of the writer who wrote that essay. If you allow your voice to come through,...

...organization. It will get their brand out there in a positive light if they are in control of it. There can be a negative light for their brand if they end up in the media for problems at their organization. The media and social media typically cannot be controlled. Social media is most certainly the hardest of all communication methods to control. Anyone can post anything about the organization. This encourages the employees to try their best to make any contact with the patients be a positive experience. This contact can be through traditional, electronic, and social media communications. There are distinct advantages and disadvantages of using traditional, electronic, and social media for health care communications. Each of the different methods can be useful in their own right but one has to be careful about the information disclosed. HIPPA has strict regulations about how information can be disclosed to the public as well as to the individuals. Traditional communication can be useful if the item is not time sensitive. Traditional letters can take up to a week to get to where they need to be. If a decision has to be made before the person receives the letter then the letter is essentially useless. If the deadline is longer than what it takes for the individual to receive...

...Out of the things I listed, the hardest to give up would be electricity. Electricity is everything to modern society. Without it, NOTHING would work for us. Our appliances would not work. People would not be able to wash their clothing, dishes, or heat up their convenient microwave dinners. Also, without electricity our wireless internet would not work. The second hardest thing to give up would be my vehicle. I am spoiled in the fact that I can hop in my car any time I want and be able to get somewhere in a reasonable amount of time. Giving that up would be hard for really me. Another thing that would be difficult to give up is my cellphone. Cellphones are another essential part of modern society. ...employees that we have to take more cautions of working inside the mine. Under the pressure of families and worried employees, they will do everything they can to make sure everybody is safe underneath the protection of people and country. The communication channel I chose for families are verbal,face-to-face talk in a hotel’s meeting lounge where everyone can relax and accept the accident in a friendly, comfortable environment.Compared to nonverbal channel such as write them letters,it is more formal and serious,it shows the reputation of the company and more persuasive. The channel for employees is a verbal meeting insight and also announcement postings inside the working area to remind them the importance of safety which is more effective and directive. “Dear friends and families, today we gather you to announce an accident just happened yesterday. ...At every school in America, there are students that go to school and work their hardest each and every day. They take the hardest classes and challenge themselves more than anyone in their school. At most schools these students are rewarded for deciding to take the difficult route and challenging themselves by means of a weighted GPA. However, there are also students like this who go to schools that do not have a weighted GPA, and the difficult classes they take weigh the same as a general level class. This is why state governments should introduce a statewide high school GPA, so that equality is provided to every student, especially when it comes to applying to college. Applying to college is important and a statewide GPA scale would positively affect this because, “Honors and advanced-placement classes and also can positively affect an admissions decision” (Weaver 1) and with this said GPA system each student would have the same opportunity as those who go to a different schools across the state. Grading systems have been around since the very beginning of schooling. Instructors needed some way to rank their students so they had an idea of how their teaching was affecting them.“In essence, grading is an exercise in professional judgment on the part of teachers. It involves the collection and evaluation of evidence on students' achievement or performance over a specified period of time, such as nine weeks, an academic semester, or entire school year” (Guskey 2). In the beginning...

...As read in Slavery in the North by Douglas Harper, in the New England colonies the hardest task slaves had was mainly ship-building, so “In contrast to the Southern plantation slavery, Northern slavery tended to be urban,” which meant that slaves in the north were mainly used as servants in homes.Since the economy in the middle colonies was made up of small farming plantations and the fur trade, labor was still slightly lighter than the south. The South had the hardest slave labor than any colonial region which was agriculture, with large plantations. The harder the labor, the more slaves the people felt were needed to bring in to...

...in school. Many people believe that the expedition was the downfall of the indians in the west. Some people believe that along the expedition that Lewis and Clark weren’t respectful and mean to the indians. I believe that Lewis and Clark were very respectful to the indians, except that they were ignorant towards the indians treating some of them like kids. They had many contacts with indians and all but two of them were peaceful and very respectful visits. When the expedition was about to begin Thomas Jefferson wrote a letter to Meriwether Lewis. The letter was explaining how they need to act around and treat the natives. Jefferson wrote, “ treat them in the most friendly and conciliatory manner which their own conduct will admit…”. Since the president told them to be respectful these men are going to be respectful. But, their relationship with the indians wasn’t all tea parties and fun games. Jefferson wrote to Lewis telling him he needs to try his hardest to take numbers of the men and extent of their weapons, and possessions. In conclusion, Jefferson wanted the men to be respectful and think strategically....
