Taken place in Jackson, Mississippi, USA, The Help brings us back to the 1960s where people in America discriminated another people based on their races. It is a movie that tells us about racism that was happening back in the 60s where WASP or broadly known as white people think they are better than other races in America. In this movie, the writer focused on the way white people treated African-American or black people in the 60s before the racial equality occurred. Eugenia ‘Skeeter’ Phelan (Emma Stone) is a writer who wants to achieve her dream to be a journalist. One day she started to write a book about how it feels like to be black around the white people community. The black people’s occupations mostly were maids at the moment. They were treated with lack of respect by white people back then. Even though she comes from rich white family, Skeeter is down-to-earth to everyone including to black people. She wanted to help the black people which was the reason why she wrote a book related to that. Skeeter’s best-selling novel, The Help is based on a true story of black maids in Mississippi. Aibileen Clark (Viola Davis) and Minny Jackson (Octavia Spencer) are two black maids who help Skeeter on writing the novel. At first, Aibileen refused to help her because she was afraid …show more content…
But not all white people in this movie and also in reala life are all bad. As we can see from this movie, Celia Foote (Jessica Chastain), a white trash social outcast did not treat her new maid, Minny, with lack of respect. In fact, she thinks that Minny is as equal as her. She did not consider Minny as her maid, but also a friend for her because Minny had taught her a lot to be better and to be more

Help for Writing an Advertising Thesis

...Help For Writing an Advertising Thesis Advertising is a form of communication, so the basic rules that apply to writing a communication thesis will also apply to an advertising thesis. However, since advertising is a very large sector, your selection of a topic for writing a thesis has to be done with care. You can do the selection in one of two ways: You can choose a product topic, which is the easier option. Just choose a product from a certain region and plan an advertising campaign around it to incorporate in your advertising thesis. You can select an industry topic. For this, you have to prepare a thesis statement on a particular topic related to the industry or on an advertising tool. To write a good thesis statement, you have to remember that advertising is not an academic field but a professional one. The industry parameters will have to be thoroughly researched and considered before you finalize your argument for writing your advertising thesis. Next, you will get down to tackling your chosen topic. If you have gone in for the first option, i.e, you have chosen a product topic, the following steps will make the job easy for you: You have to decide on the product or the service you wish to advertise. Next, carry out market research and write out your product’s attributes, focal points and unique selling proposition. Then finalize your agenda: what are the targets, objectives and markets you wish to make an inroad into? You have to select your advertisement medium;...

Writing a Thesis

...Writing A Thesis Statement | After finding a topic, but before writing the paper, you must write a thesis statement. An effective thesis statement helps you focus and establish a paper’s purpose. A thesis statement also helps readers, guiding them through the paper. An effective thesis statement tells them what you learned about your topic, describes what evidence led to your conclusion, and helps readers understand your argument. Basically, the thesis statement communicates the central point of a paper and answers the following question: What do you want to prove? The following checklist may help you write an effective thesis statement: * Write an opinion a person could agree with or argue against. * Limit the scope of your thesis statement so it is not broad. Check, however, that you have enough information to support the thesis. * Assert your opinion about the subject clearly and concisely. * Write the thesis as a statement instead of a question. * Use third-person point of view, instead of first-person: he, she, it, and they instead of I and me. * Limit your thesis statement to a complete sentence of, at most, 25 words. A thesis statement is not a fact, generalization, exaggeration, or announcement of the essay’s topic. Examples of Ineffective and Effective Thesis Statements Thesis Statements | Effective or Ineffective | Rationale | The federal government must solve the housing crisis. | Ineffective | Too broad, vague, or general | The...

My Resume

...Tips: Thesis Statements Defining the Thesis Statement Questions to Ask When Formulating Your Thesis Defining the Thesis Statement What is a thesis statement? Every paper you write should have a main point, a main idea, or central message. The argument(s) you make in your paper should reflect this main idea. The sentence that captures your position on this main idea is what we call a thesis statement. How long does it need to be? A thesis statement focuses your ideas into one or two sentences. It should present the topic of your paper and also make a comment about your position in relation to the topic. Your thesis statement should tell your reader what the paper is about and also help guide your writing and keep your argument focused. Questions to Ask When Formulating Your Thesis Where is your thesis statement? You should provide a thesis early in your essay -- in the introduction, or in longer essays in the second paragraph -- in order to establish your position and give your reader a sense of direction. Tip: In order to write a successful thesis statement: Avoid burying a great thesis statement in the middle of a paragraph or late in the paper. Be as clear and as specific as possible; avoid vague words. Indicate the point of your paper but avoid sentence structures like, “The point of my paper is…” Is your thesis statement specific? Your thesis statement should be as clear and specific as possible. Normally you will continue to refine your thesis as you...

Narration Narration is used for storytelling such as telling a friend about an incident that occurred in your day. The best organizational method will be to use chronological order. This will help the reader to understand how each event led to the next. Use strong details related to the 5 senses in your story to help the reader get immersed into the story’s world. Decide before writing if you want the story to be factual or fictional. This will help to allow you to decide how creative you can be with the story. ...compare the two, but just allow me to exaggerate my disdain for writing. Throughout this course, I repeatedly participated in the essay review process, was forced to learn how to form a proper thesis, and was introduced to graphic organizing techniques that will, unfortunately, actually help me out in the future. The essay review process is almost as boring as it sounds and is self-defined in its name. Writing an essay consists of brainstorming ideas, creating a rough draft, reviewing the rough draft, then submitting the final paper. We learned this early on in English class and as a matter of fact, we had to submit a “bio” of who we were on the first day of class. Now as I look back at that...

How to Write Novel Essay

...01:34 am by admin1 Novel Essay as a Literature Essay Type A powerful essay can balance a detailed and logical structure with an enthusiastic and convincing writing style. This balance will help you reach goal, which is to convey information and build an effective argument regarding the chosen subject matter. As you plan, write and edit your essay, your main argument should remain at the heart of your work. Of course, the task of staying focused on your main idea may not be as easy as it seems. In addition, you will need to carefully handle other elements of the essay, such as the introduction, supporting evidence and conclusion. When dealing with a literature essay, you should offer a debatable argument about a literary work. For example, simply stating that “Mark Twain’s ‘Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ is about the adventures of a young protagonist,” will not suffice as a debatable issue. You will need to produce a more focused and opinionated topic. Your personal stance, which will appear in the form of your essay’s thesis statement, can aim to analyze character development, debate the effectiveness of writing techniques employed by the author or even draw comparisons between multiple literary works. You must be imaginative and clear when brainstorming your thesis. After your thesis statement is in place, you will use the body of the essay to support your stance using facts and examples from the text. Direct quotes from the text can be especially useful as you try to persuade...

Essay Analysis

...fiction written by Canadian authors. Referring to Canadian authors gives the reader an idea about topic of the essay. For example the phrases, “Popular literature abounds with examples, ranging from the controversial work of Dan Brown to horrific work of Stephen King. On the beach, on the subway, people escape into the world of these authors.” helps the reader infer that essay will be on a talented author. From here the essay starts to be more specific. A thesis statement is added at the end of the introductory paragraph stating the overall argument. The author states a strong thesis by giving three clear reasons as to why readers appreciate Agatha Christie’s novels. The three points in the thesis are like a blueprint of the essay, specifying the points that will be discussed in the essay. Next, the reader is introduced to the first point of the essay through a topic sentence. This sentence states the main point that will be argued in first body paragraph and also creates a connection with the thesis statement. The topic sentence creates a link to the thesis, since it helps the first body paragraph to prove the first point stated in the thesis. In general, the topic sentence is followed by 1 or 2 examples and an explanation on how the examples are evidence to the point. This essay follows this really closely. However regarding my perception, I believe it lacks on explanation as it doesn’t clearly prove why characters in Christie’s novel are believed to be strong. On the other...

General to particular, 2.)Chronologically (by time), 3.)Spatially (by physical arrangement), 4.)From one extreme to another Limited topic + controlling idea= topic sentence Module 2 Every essay consists of several easily recognizable parts: a title, an introduction, a thesis statement, several body paragraphs, and a conclusion. A title is a phrase, usually no more than a few words, that gives a hint about the subject, purpose, or focus of what is to follow in the essay.  The introduction to your essay—your first paragraph—should introduce your subject and stimulate your audience's interest. This paragraph essentially tells readers what the essay is going to cover without going into detail or discussing specifics.  Your thesis statement includes the topic of the essay and your opinion about that topic. Your opinion about the topic is the controlling idea of the essay.  The body paragraphs explain and support the thesis statement. Each body paragraph covers one major...

...challenges that can arise when writing a paper. One of them is having an unclear thesis when writing a paper. Which means that the main point does not relate clearly to the thesis of the paper you are writing? This can also confuse the readers and lose their attention. Another challenge that might arise when writing a paper is fragment sentences in the paper. It happens often, and it is when a sentence does not have a subject and a verb in the same sentence. Which causes the sentence not to be complete? This can make the paper have a bad flow. Finally, another challenge that might arise is grammar issues. Because even though it sounds simple you need to understand how the language works, how the meaning is made, and how it is broken. When there are grammar issues it makes the paper seem unprofessional. There are a lot more challenges than these three that I have stated in the paragraph that could arise when writing a paper but these are the main ones that I feel are the most important that a writer should think the most  about when it comes to writing a paper. The strategies that I would use to overcome the challenges are: first, to have a clear thesis I need to have paragraphs that relate clearly to the thesis sentence. One main thing is to stay on topic and being detailed, also relating clearly to the thesis of the paper. By having the thesis sentence at the beginning, where it can help the reader understand how the point being made fits into the purpose of the paper...
