The Hero Journey Archetype In Shrek And The Odyssey

The hero journey archetype consists of four basic parts: separation, initiation, discovery, and return. However, not all hero journey stories fit this specific pattern. For example, the movie Shrek does not necessarily fit the pattern, but the protagonist can still be considered a hero. Other stories completely fit the archetype such as Homer’s The Odyssey. These stories can be compared in order to conclude which one fits the pattern more appropriately. Most people wouldn’t agree if he/she were told Shrek fits the hero journey archetype, however, the story fits the pattern well. For example, he rescued the princess and made it out alive the castle by outsmarting the dragon. Shrek’s story is different others because he doesn’t have the stereotypical
