In the book The Hiding Place, by Corrie Ten Boom, the reader hears of the events that unfolded during the holocaust from the perspective of a catholic. Corrie Ten Boom takes the reader through the journey of someone who may not have fallen victim to the Germans, but definitely didn't agree with what they were doing. The Ten Boom family made the decision that they would help to hide the Jews despite this being against the law. In this case it is ok to lie in order to keep the Jews safe because they are lying for the greater good. When making a decision one must weigh the pros and cons and when it comes to Corrie's decision the good most definitely outweighed the bad. In the new government system people were being taught that the Jews were not people. Therefore, they did not need to be treated as such. The Ten Boom's did not agree with this logic, in their heads the Jews were still people and hurting them was a sin. Despite it being against the law the Ten Boom's decided that keeping the Jews safe was the right thing to do. The Ten Booms were a very religious family and they believed that lying was a sin, but lying to save a person's life was the exception. When Corrie's Sister Nollie told the German soldiers the truth, that they were hiding Jews, Corrie was outraged. Not only did Nollie give up what their mission was, but she allowed the very evil that was happening all around them to enter her home and did nothing to stop it. As Corrie would say, Nollie did more than just betray the cause, "she had betrayed another human being"( Ten Boom 127). Being Jewish doesn't make them any less of a human being, so they should be treated the way that any other human being would like to be treated. So, by lying to the German soldiers Corrie and her family help to keep the Jews alive because this is what God would have
