...As Wesley Morris said ‘The History boys is a bittersweet comedy,’ and that is extremely precise. Comedy iss generally intended to be humorous or to amuse by activating laughter. The History Boys is noted as a comedy-drama but overall has a deeper intention. Ironically, the gravitational topics discussed are opposite to the comedy; just like Hector and Irwin as these characters function in the play is to exemplify the comedy and gravity. But, why did Bennett incorporate these characters in? Bennett cleverly distinguished between the opposite values of a teacher and created two opposite characters to enhance the comedy and gravity of them. But, why is Bennett’s play labeled as a comedy? Comedy is used throughout the History Boys by Bennett through selected techniques such as parody, contrasting characters and their clever juxtapositions within the plot. But, the elements of a more somber tone flourish throughout the play. Comedy is clearly a main influence of Bennett’s when writing The History Boys as there are several humorous scenes in it. The mock interview disagrees with the critics view. ‘How do I define history? It’s just one fucking thing after another.’ This is an example of one of the entertaining moments of the History Boys as he wouldn’t say that in an interview. Bennett proves to the audience that Rudge adds to the comedy. The French scene shows the Head teacher contrast with the student intelligence. The persuasion of the Headmaster into speaking French and the...

...History Discussion - Explain whether you agree or disagree with this statement: 'The League failed in the 1930s simply because it faced greater challenges than it had faced in the 1920s.' The League of Nations was set up after World War I to ensure lasting world peace. However, it failed in the 1930s after a series of unsuccessful attempts to restore peace and justice. Everyone lost faith in it and it lost its purpose totally. Personally, I do agree that the League failed in the 1930s simply because it faced greater challenges than it had faced in the 1920s. In the 1920s, when the League was just formed, there were less conflicts between countries and thus the credibility and efficiency of the League was not put to test. Thus, the Council was unable to improve from mistakes they made or experience gained. This may be probably due to the fact that the war had just ended and most countries were affected, causing them to be unwilling to have conflicts with other countries in case such a tragic incident took place again. However, once the 1930s arrived, many major incidents that required detailed planning and consideration had to be settled by the League. Due to the lack of experience, the League was unable to cope with the important decisions they had to make. One example would be the Manchurian Crisis in 1930-33. By that time, Japan had developed to become a strong country that had a powerful military force, a strong industry and a growing empire. The League, when faced with...

Sadly too many other things have claimed my attention since, so I haven’t had time to work on them further, nor do I see much time in the foreseeable future. As such this material is very much in draft form and I won’t be doing any corrections or updates until I’m able to find time to work on it again. Things change. If we store information about the world this may not be a problem. After all when something changes one of the great values of a computerized record system is that it allows us to easily update a record without resorting to liquid paper or retyping pages of information. Things get interesting, however, when we need to record the history of the changes. Not just do we want to know the state of the world, we want to know the state of the world six months ago. Even worse we may want to know what two months ago we thought the state of the world six months ago was. These questions lead us into a fascinating ground...

After making a detailed list of skills that are involved in the study of History as an academic discipline, briefly discuss the potential usefulness of these skills for other professions and/or in our everyday lives. This will help you to see how the academic study of History is useful as part of our general education.) Investigative Research Communication Patience Writing Commitment History is the ultimate puzzle. Mastering the skills developed through studying history gives you the ability to discern fact from fiction and reality from myth. It makes you more able to document an event with better accuracy. In Science, this can help you reach a desired solution or result by depicting the outcome of trials and tests with better understanding. In everyday life you will be more critical of events as they are told or received initially by you. You will look for ways to justify or corroborate facts/ events presented to you. I think you will become less likely to fill in the spaces and more likely to pursue proof to validate the event and to better separate fact from fiction for yourself. 2. ...outline the process of using a systematic approach on obtaining a comprehensive patient history. In order to gather the history properly, the nurse also has to use their interpersonal communication skills in an efficient and professional manner along with an assessment of the individual and their surrounding environment. Once you establish a comfortable environment for the patient, you can utilize your nursing skills to obtain a comprehensive history and present it in an orderly fashion. Summary of Article Craig and Lloyd (2007) emphasize that obtaining a patient history is “arguably the most important aspect of patient assessment” (p. 42). The nurse’s role in the health care field is every changing but utilizing the information given to them by the patient is critical in proper assessment of the problem at hand. The first step in being able to gather information from the patient is establishing an environment that is conducive to the patient and nurse interaction. The environment should be “accessible, appropriately equipped, free from distractions and safe for the patient and the nurse” (Craig, 2007, p. 42). Being considerate to the patient’s beliefs, values, and to be open minded even if the nurse does not share the views of the patient goes a long way to gain respect as well as consent from the patient. Also, what resources will be most helpful to you as a student of history? It’s is helpful to study prior history and the participants in that history, so you have a better underrating on what they were going through. You couldn’t explain something to someone, especially history by stating what only happened. I would be difficult to fully grasp why the actions were done in such ways. Examining the history of different participants’ experiences gives a much clearer picture of their viewpoint, feelings, and opinions during a certain time period. Not long ago in America, the African-American Civil Rights Movement encompasses social movements whose goal was to end racial segregation and discrimination against black Americans and enforce constitutional voting rights to them. Now what went on shortly before that, we were at war yet again. During that time we were at war with Vietnam. I recall reading from that black Americans were on the front line during the Vietnam War. They felt as if they were dogs, didn’t have rights and no one wanted to be next to them. If you were to view this just from this standpoint I am sure you would have many unanswered questions. But this is the reason you need to view history prior to the event. Imagine not knowing anything about history. Imagine there is no documentation of any...
