In the play “The Hitchhiker” by Lucille Fletcher, it talks about the journey of a man who is traveling to California. His name is Ronald Adams. This story first starts out with Ronald leaving his home. His mom is very sad. He then crosses the Brooklyn Bridge. There, he notices a man leaning against the cables. Ronald chooses to keep going with his journey. Later, Ronald sees the same man again. Ronald is now alone in a field. He decides to keep driving because he is starting to get scared. Ronald keeps on seeing the suspicious man in a lot of places but each time he asks someone if they saw this man, they always say no. At one point, Ronald thought that he shouldn't be alone anymore. He then meets a girl. She agrees to go to Amarillo, Texas…show more content… Ronald sees the same man again and again. It first starts on the Brooklyn Bridge. Ronald mentions that he would have forgotten the man but then, he noticed the man again. To support this evidence, the text states, “I would have forgotten him completely, but except that just an hour later, while crossing the Pulaski Skyway over the Jersey flats, I saw him again.” (Fletcher 336). This makes the reader think that the character is insane. What make the character seem crazier is when Ronald asks the Mechanic person ‘Then you’ve never seen anybody?” and the mechanic person responds “Nope’. Ronald also sees the suspicious man when he is driving slowly. At this point, the reader starts to think that Ronald is really crazy. Another example is when Ronald asks a girl if she wants a ride. The girl agrees and she asks him to go to Amarillo, Texas. Ronald thinks that because he isn’t alone anymore, he will not see the man again. He thinks to himself, ‘I only knew that from now on, I must not let myself be alone on the road for one moment.” However, he thought wrong. Even when the girl is with Ronald, the suspicious man keeps on reappearing. At one point, Ronald has had enough of the man tries to run him over. Because of this, the girl thinks that Ronald is crazy. In the text, the girl says “Seeing pink elephants all the way? No thanks.” (Fletcher
