This morning i arrived at 7:50 and was ringing on the door bell and no one answered. Finally after 10 minutes a lady opened up and let me in. I went into the office and did my routine of organizing my paperwork etc. No one was in the office because they didn’t have a morning shift this morning. A lady walked up to the front desk and asked me who i was in a rude way and just had this disgusted face at me which was quite rude but i didn’t care so i just answered her politely. She was actually the only person working in the office at this time and did hear the bell ring just didn’t open up because it was before 8. So my feelings for this lady are not good ones. Later in the day i overheard her talking to some people about her never being the favorite

Illegal Immigration Reform Proposal

...Illegal Immigration Reform Proposal The United States has gone from being a nation of one race (Native Americans), to being a country of many nations. This country has increasingly become responsible for immigrants that have decided that the state of their own nation has become unbearable and have decided to make a change in their life from day to day as well as the life of their entire family. The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimated in 2010 that there were 11,900,000 illegal immigrants in the United States at the cost of approximately $83,665,408,222. The impact of illegal immigrants on the United States has become an issue that has stirred the emotions of all American citizens for many decades. With the population of illegal immigrants believed to be having a negative impact on the rising cost of healthcare, the contribution to a nationwide problem of unemployment, and citizens and immigrants’ alike calling for fairness to all, a complete immigration reform is something that needs to be addressed on a national level. President Barack Obama has a “commonsense immigration reform proposal.” His proposal consists of four parts that will hold accountable not just the illegal workers, but the employers who hire them as well. There are four parts to President Obama’s proposed reform: 1) continue to strengthen the borders to the United States; by doing so would strengthen our ability to remove criminals and apprehend and prosecute national security threats;...

With many immigrants coming to American, politicians started seeking out ways to win the support of the immigrants as they were potential voters in upcoming elections. In the midst of immigrants coming from every part of the world, politicians began addressing major events from countries substantial immigrants came from. Many immigrants began running for public office because they would be supported by members of their own ethnicity. With larger quantity of voters, many immigrants were successfully elected into public offices. Immigrants were a key feature of commercial and industrial growth of America. Without Immigrants, America would be majorly impacted as many immigrants are working the jobs that many Americans don’t want to do for low wages. If immigrants were gone, much of the food we need to survive would be gone as many farmers would go bankrupt having to pay high wages to workers. The United States immigration law/policy doesn’t reflect American political values. The immigration policy takes away the rights of immigrant’s equal rights and opportunity to become citizens of our great nation. With this law/policy many citizens of different ethnicity are discriminated as being illegal immigrants when they are actually citizens of this country. Takes away rights of immigrants to...

Edward Kennedy was one of the architects of the Immigration and Nationality Act in 1965. He was the United States Senators of Massachusetts and served almost 47 years and was known as one of his major players on the immigration reform. And what the immigration reform does is that it supports or not supports the primary numbers of immigrants are in the United States and that is what it focuses on both legal and illegal. Look at history now; Barack Obama is the 44th president of the United States. Barack Obama is the first black American to hold a powerful executive office. ...who side with the anti-immigrationists. They argue that immigration puts a greater stress on the taxpayers to support immigrants. Anti-immigrationists say immigrants are taking jobs away from U.S. nationals and raising rents, and that too many immigrants are entering too fast to assimilate into “American” culture. However, these people appear to have made rash judgments about the issues when making such arguments, which seem to stem from xenophobic prejudices. Some of us don’t like to deal with things that are unfamiliar to us, but immigrants are an invaluable resource to this great nation, which was created by immigrants. Thus, we should strive to increase the number of legal immigrants allowed into our country. One argument anti-immigrationists make is that the taxpayers are burdened by the extra expenses for health, welfare, and other non-educational services that are placed on the system by immigrants. But are immigrants really burdening this country? George Borjas, an economics professor at the University of California at San Diego, discovered that even though immigrants receive more in government benefits than they pay in taxes, they actually produce a net gain for the U.S. economy of about four billion dollars a year. What about immigrants taking away our jobs? This is another question asked by anti-immigrationists. In actuality, the jobs that immigrants accept are usually low-paying ones in restaurants, households, agriculture, and in the manufacturing industry, Dr. Lerry...

...political debates. Many Americans believe that allowing illegal immigrants to live in the USA is detrimental to our economy. For as long as I can remember, this topic has been a major discussion in the national news syndicate as well. One can open any newspaper, turn on any news channel, or visit any news site on the internet and one of the major headlines will have something to do with illegal immigration. With the overwhelming amount of undocumented immigrants in the USA, many questions are asked about the effects they are having on our economy. In the early 1600s, immigrants began arriving in the USA. As a country, the majority of the population was English. In 1607, so called “Foreigners” began to enter the country. Non-English immigrants were coming from mainly the British Isles, Whales, Scotland, and Ireland (Garis, R, 1927). During the year of 1637, Massachusetts was one of the first to implement a law regarding residents or colonies allowing immigrants into their homes. The Governor, John Winthrop, supported the law that states that any immigrants must have permission from the authorities to be in the colony (Hendricks, J. 2013). Immigration did not actually gain the Illegal status until 1808. This is the year that President Jefferson made foreign slave trade illegal, resulting in many slaves being smuggled into the USA (Hendricks, J. 2013). This is the first documentation of illegal immigrants coming to our county. In the current century, illegal immigration...

...English the official language of the U.S. On the other hand, in their essays “English Should Be the Only Language” and “Why the U.S. Needs an Official Language”, S. I. Hayakawa and Mauro E. Mujica argue that English should be made the official language. They contend that multilingualism puts a large financial burden on the country. One specific service in which the cost outweighs the benefits is bilingual education. It is teaching non-English speaking students all school subjects in their native language. However, it lowers the standards for public schools and tends to create a segregated environment for the students. They also point out that the U.S. is a leading nation and English is the most used language in the world. Not forcing immigrants to learn English will actually impede upon their assimilation into America. Without correcting this problem, America will suffer from disunity and divergence. Multilingual government is very expensive. More than 120 multiple languages are spoken throughout the states. To support multilingual government, America would have to invest billions of taxpayer’s dollars to local programs such as court services, government documents, and multilingual voting ballots. Even in good economic times, those funds will be taken from education, healthcare, police and fire services, and public transportation. Mujica explains, “The health-care industry, already reeling from a shortage...

...figures Bullies or Buddies: Brutality from authority figures to immigrants This newspaper article that I found online, written by Daniel Shoer Roth of the Miami Herald newspaper, shows his research on the subject of police brutality towards immigrants/refugees. it also shows some of his personal outlooks on the topic along with some views of some of the citizens in Miami that he interviewed. he talks on a national and local level about , biased policing, unconstitutional searches and seizures and the use of excessive force when dealing with ethnic groups. many cases have been documented in Miami-Dade County in which DEA agents and local police officers have arrested U.S. citizens with foreign last names to interrogate them about their citizenship. Foreigners are required to carry immigration papers, green cards, at all times. But natural born U.S. citizens are not required to carry papers proving citizenship. local police departments deny having policies that encourage the harassment of immigrants, but these attacks show how law-enforcement policies are not entirely respected by the officers. The enforcement program, Secure Communities, is sometimes considered a useless tool in bringing out dangerous foreign criminals, also gives full power to criminals and gives them power to commit abuse against our community. It also endangers any legal American who may be a victim of a crime witnessed by an immigrant/refugee who is scared of reporting it for fear of deportation.The...

Persuasive Essay On Immigration Reform

...immigration reform bill. In this proposal, President Trump threw around the idea of slashing legal immigration to the United States in half within the next decade, by limiting the ability of American citizens and legal residents to bring their family members into the country. This bill would have a major effect on the country as a whole, and in my opinion, I think they would be mostly negative effects. I do not believe that congress should pass the bill proposed by President Trump. Ever since President Trump has been in office, he has wanted to make drastic changes to the immigration policies in the United States and this is just the latest proposal. Some of the things President Trump has already done when it comes to immigration reform include barring many visitors from select Muslim-majority countries, limited the influx of refugees, increased immigration arrests and pressed to build a wall along the southern border. (cite) These policies deal mainly with immigrants from threatening countries. I would not want my country to be the next victim of the Paris attack and this is why I personally do not have a problem with the legislation he has already passed. But this new bill on the other hand, I do not believe would be positive for our country....

Pros And Cons Of US Citizenship

...Pros and Cons of U.S. Citizenship Citizenship is not for everyone, especially immigrants. Immigrants come to the U.S., each with a different reason explaining why they must immigrate to America. But if they never planned to stay in America for a long period of time, then they shouldn’t be able to be given the privilege to become an American citizen. This kind of situation is the deciding factor of whether or not they should need citizenship. Therefore, if the person has come from poor demographics and has little government help, citizenship could be of use, but then their citizenship for their native country would have to be revoked. There are many pros and cons to becoming a U.S. citizens, so if the immigrants think that the pros outweigh...

Human Trafficking

...Human Trafficking United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) defines human trafficking as “the acquisition of people by improper means such as force, fraud or deception, with the aim of exploiting them”. UNODC notes that every country of the world is affected by human trafficking crimes. Therefore, the United States is not an exception. Smuggling of migrants is also often labelled as human trafficking although there are certain distinctions between them. At the same time, Chacon (2986) fairly points out: “the line between smuggling and trafficking is becoming increasingly blurry”. The United States is an attractive country for migrants from all over the world. Illegal migration is one of the major concerns of the US government. This illegal migration is a part of a broader problem which is human trafficking. This paper is an attempt to explore how human trafficking affects the US economy, and specifically how it affects Houston. Migrant smuggling refers to assistance to individuals to cross borders illegally. Usually such assistance is provided for financial gain. Individuals may illegal cross border for various purposes such as performing labour, including sex services (Chacon, 2981). Migrant smuggling is usually conducted under the coercive conditions (Chacon, 2981). The United States is majorly a destination or a transit territory for human trafficking ("Humantrafficking.org "). By different estimates, 4,500 to 17,500 people per year are trafficked to the country ("Humantrafficking...

Immigration

...llegal immigrants in the United States (US) have long been a topic of debate for policymakers and the public. The rationale about them is that they do not pay taxes; they add to the costs of taxpayers and use up funds in resources meant for assisting citizens and legal immigrants (the legal citizens). Therefore, they are perceived as a threat to the US economy. The true impacts of illegal immigrants on the US economy are discussed by debating over the economic benefits as well as economic costs of these immigrants. The negative impacts, discussed first, presented the decreases in low skilled jobs’ wage rates for legal immigrants and citizens instigated by illegal immigrants, the social services such as educations and healthcare that they utilize and add to taxpayers. Then contrary to the negative impacts, the positive impacts reveal benefits of low production costs, increases in the local market sales, undocumented tax generation, impact on growth and employment brought forth by illegal immigrants. These impacts, both negative and positive, are independently analyzed and weighed against each other. The discussion does show a slight net positive impact on the US economy in contrast to the normal belief about illegal immigrants. There was a time when people came freely and settled within the land, but as societies became more civilized and community laws established, immigration became a point of concern for the advanced societies. They did not just want any person to enter the...

...Illegal Immigration from the South It is one of the most debated things in the United States; how should illegal immigration from Mexico be handled? Many people believe that illegal immigrants destroy the economy and that we need to take drastic measures to prevent it such as forcing people to carry federal identification cards, increasing the number of Border Patrol officers, or even building barriers on the border. I believe that we need to begin caring about and understanding why these people are leaving their homes to come into the United States. Many people believe that these immigrants are coming over and causing problems, but in reality, they aren't causing as many problems as we think. They are taking jobs, but they are jobs that pay...
