These strategies include differentiation, marketing, distribution, collaborative strategies, labor and management strategies, and diversification. Within this analysis, we chose to focus on the Coca-Cola Company because they have proven successful in their international operations and are one of the most recognized brands in the world. Coca-Cola's Water Neutrality Initiative

...Susan Bloemke June 14, 2015 Discussion Case: Coca-Cola’s Water Neutrality Initiative 1. The public issue facing Coca-Cola Company was that its stakeholders were upset with Coca-Cola because of the impact of its excessive water use on local communities. “The Center for Science and the Environment also charged that Coca-Cola products contained dangerous levels of pesticide residues.” Local officials were shutting down a local plant in the state of Kerala. “An Indian court issued an order requiring soft-drink makers to list pesticides residues on their labels.” In the United States, a grassroots campaign was established “to convince schools and colleges to boycott Coca-Cola products.” (Lawrence and Weber, p. 43) The performance-expectations gap is “the perceived distance between what a firm wants to do or is doing and what the stakeholder expects.” (Lawrence and Weber, p. 548) Stakeholders expected a large company such as Coca-Cola to be more proactive about being sustainable and protecting the communities that were home to its factories. The performance expectation gap was large because what the communities were expecting from Coca-Cola was much higher than what Coca-Cola was performing. Stakeholders expected: * Coca-Cola plants to be more sustainable in regard to the natural resources it was using in production, and * offer products that were pesticide free. Coca-Cola was: * producing products that were containing pesticides and not disclosing that...

Environmental Factors

...Coca-Cola Environmental Factors Coca-Cola Environmental Factors Influence of Global Economic Interdependence Marketing channels are sets of interdependent organizations participating in the process of making a product or service available for use or consumption. (Kotler, 2012). Coca-Cola operates 900 plants in more than 200 countries around the world. Coca-Cola is a sort of franchised operation with various bottlers in other countries. Although Coca-Cola may have an interest in some of these bottling operations they are usually separate legal businesses. In many cases these businesses operate under a different set of rules and laws. Many depend strictly on the Coca-Cola brand but some produce other items as well. In Zambia, for example, the Zambian Breweries is a subsidiary of SAB Miller. The brewery is the only bottler of Coca-Cola in that country and of course they also bottle beer. In Atlanta, the operation is responsible for taking care of the business portion of the brand and overall marketing, and product development. Effect of Trade Practices and Agreements North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) lays out a plan to reshape the rules of trade among the United States, Canada, and Mexico. (Perreault, 2011). Legislation affecting business around the world has increased steadily over the years. The United States has many laws covering issues such as competition, fair trade practices, environmental protection, product safety, truth in advertising,...

Coca Cola Versus Pepsi

...Coca-Cola and Pepsi are the two greatest competitors amongst the soft drink industry today. They are both legendary brands and have been battling each for many years. I would first like to provide a little history about both companies. Coca-Cola was invented by pharmacist John Stith Pemberton in Columbus, Georgia around 1886 (Coca-Cola Journey, n.d.). The creation of the beverage was in a pharmacy by mixing Coca-Cola with carbonated water. The drink is well-known in over 200 countries with more than 500 brands and serves over 1.7 billion servings each day (Coca-Cola Journey, n.d.). United States is origin for Coca-Cola but its reputation has made it truly universal. Pepsi was first introduced in 1893 by Caleb Bradham at his drugstore in New Bern, North Carolina (Sodamuseum.com, n.d.). Bradham’s later labeled the drink Pepsi-Cola on August 28, 1898 which was named after the digestive enzyme pepsin and kola nuts ingredients used in the formula. Upon completion of this paper, there will be a general idea about Coca-Cola and Pepsi-Cola. First, there will be a discussion on how each corporate culture differs from the other. Second, I will then analyze three ways that each unique culture has benefited by the other’s competition. Finally, I will hypothesize how each would continue to thrive if its current corporate culture would need to change in the near future. Determine how each corporate culture differs from the other: The people’s two favorite soft drinks have always been...

...Business Analysis Part III: The Coca-Cola Company Karen Mace MGT 521 June 11, 2012 Elaine Nissley Business Analysis Part III: The Coca-Cola Company The Coca-Cola Company is a successful global food and beverage organization. In 2012, The Coca-Cola Company was ranked 59 by Fortune 500 magazine [ (CNNMoney) ]. This was an increase from the previous ranking of 70. DiversityInc magazines ranked the organization as number 12 on the magazine’s top 50 companies for diversity in 2011 [ (The Coca-Cola Company) ]. The Coca-Cola Company has been the dominant leader in the global soft-drink industry through the 20th century [ (The Coca-Cola Company) ]. The Coca-Cola Company has been influenced by different economic trends, such as lower disposable consumer income and the importance of conservation. In a recession, consumers will often reduce their spending on non-essential items such as carbonated beverages so that their disposable income can be used to cover the essential household expenses. Carbonated beverages have been viewed as non-essential items because they lack any nutritional value. Coca-Cola has positioned the company to sustain this economic trend by offering products focused on a nutritional aspect such as flavored waters and reduced sodium sports drinks. Consumers can validate their spending on these items because they are healthy and “good for them”. Coca-Cola has addressed the importance of conservation by reducing the size of the bottle. The reduction in size...
