It’s necessary to point out that for my next 2 years here at the Mount, I will have to take 18 credits every semester. I will have a lot of responsibilities along with that because I also have to begin my Honors Project. Academically, I will have a lot on my plate, but I know that time management is one of my greatest assets. In high school, I took a total of 13 AP classes and ended up with a total of 26 credits before even starting my college career. I had to manage my time very efficiently in high school. I had to make sure I kept up with my grades, kept up with my social life, and that I could take care of my little brother and our home while our parents were working. All the struggles in high school forced me to become very efficient and

Leading or setting the example for my daughters is very important to me. By actively portraying to my daughters the importance of having a college education after high school, they will engage into participating in a plethora of new opportunities in their own lives which will enhance their way of living. They see how hard I study and how important my grades are to me that it encourages them to do the same in their high school studies now. They actively partake in my studies now, which in turn, results in them asking me questions on what I am studying. Having them involved is having them engaged in their own thought processes. If I have done that for them then I feel like I am doing my job as a Mother. I encourage them to follow in my footsteps so that they can have a better life for themselves. The second reason college is so important to me is the fact it will change my way of life. Studies show that a college education leads to better paying careers and/or advancements in a career. Raising Objections to Pursue MBA As children we were taught the value of education and the importance of obtaining a college degree to be successful. At such a young age it may have been difficult to fully grasp how the proper education could shape ones future but with age comes wisdom and understanding. Many people go to college and obtain associate and bachelor degrees but a master’s degree can definitely make you stand out amongst a group of qualified applicants. “In this job market, anything that differentiates you is helpful” (Stires, 2010, pg. 3). Pursuing a Master’s degree takes dedication and tenacity and these efforts are recognized by potential employers. There is a clear relationship between earnings and education. A graduate degree provides individuals with the opportunity for more earning potential and an increased knowledge base. Lott (2010) stated: Individuals who hold a master's degree as their highest level of academic attainment can expect to earn an average of $2.5 million over the span of their career, while those who have only a bachelor's degree can expect to earn $400,000 less on average. Why College Important

...stone ensuring a better life and various career prospects in our economy. College is therefore, important to me as it allows personal growth, by enhancing my knowledge. Which has open doors to opportunities, I would not have otherwise. More importantly, college is important to me not only to make myself proud but to be a role model to my children. To show them that despite what obstacles stand in a person’s way, they should never give up. Being a young, single minority mother with two children and only a high school diploma, I was not afforded the opportunities to acquire certain jobs. This made me realized the importance of furthering my education. Many personal experiences have influenced my understanding that without a college education I will not be able to provide financially for my family and to give them the foundation which they need to succeed. Abraham Lincoln quoted that one should, “Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.” It is often perceived that having children at a young age would halt my opportunities to obtain a college education or opportunities for me to have a productive life, however, that perception was wrong. Like other parents I have been repeating the mantras, “go to school” and “education is the key to success” repeatedly over the years. As a mother, I am aware that my children look up to me as a role model and therefore, I have not settled for my high school diploma and continued my education. As I...

Pursue a Master in Business Administration

...of the question. After 30 years of military service and beyond the age of 50, there is no better time to conquer my dreams and achieve my personal goal in obtaining my MBA. This accomplishment will open new a new path toward venturing into another outstanding career. The value of higher education is an important factor for advancement. The opportunity to excel would be the primary reason to achieve this goal while gaining the skills, and knowledge, of management. A position of increased responsibility requires much knowledge to be successful and a company, or business, may fail without these credentials. Mintzberg stated that “managers are important people who are supposed to sit above others, removed and disconnected from the work of making products and selling services. The higher they go, the more important they are, so that on reaching the top, becoming Chief Executive Officer; they are the corporation even if they arrived yesterday. To become such a manager or, better still, such a leader who gets to sit on top, it is necessary to sit in a business school for two years, which enables one to manage anything” (Mintzberg, 2004, p. 6). This statement sums up the value of a master’s degree in business, and the importance of obtaining all the knowledge as one climbs the ladder of success. The 30 years of military service has...

Seeing that so many have failed before me I was afraid I would fail as well but it is of great importance for me to succeed not only just gaining my degree but also finding a job in my field of study.
