Ahuitzotl was an important and powerful Aztec ruler. Ahuitzotl was the eighth ruler of the Aztec empire and very successful. He rose to power in the year 7 rabbit (1486) after the death of his older brother and the current ruler Tizoc. Ahuitzotl is “described … as youthful, strong, energetic, and audacious.” (ancient, 2016) While some Aztec leaders doubted his ability to lead due to age Ahuitzotl proved to be a strong leader and a mighty conqueror. He swiftly routed a resistance in the Toluca Valley in the Coronation War the first battle during his reign. “Prisoners were taken to Tenochtitlán and sacrificed during Ahuiztotl's coronation” (tenochtitlanfacts, 2016) ceremony afterwards. He also sacrificed many other prisoners during his reign
