SYNOPSIS:
“Experience never gets old” this is one of the film’s promotional lines.
The story is about BEN WHITTAKER a 70 year old retired widower, whose boredom and loneliness who wants to fill his days with an activity where he can do some good. After 40 years in the business of printing telephone books and then losing his beloved wife of 42 years, he did his best to adjust to his new life, and it worked – for a while. He travelled the world and engaged in a wide variety of physical and intellectual pursuits to keep himself occupied, but it wasn't enough. When walking the streets of his native Brooklyn, he sees a flyer for a senior intern program at a young, but burgeoning internet clothing company. After seeing a sign advertising internships for senior citizens, he decides to apply in the hopes that he can find a new purpose in life Ben feels that learning more about technology and working with young people feels like just the challenge he needs to occupy his mind and his time. He applies, via a terrific self-made video (the company's requirement), and sits through a series of amusing interviews with company employees young enough to be his grandchildren… and he gets the internship.
JULES OSTIN is the founder and CEO of “About the Fit”, a fast growing e-commerce fashion company where Ben’s wants to apply as a senior intern. The senior intern program was her idea, but Jules is at first hesitant about Ben becoming an intern due to her preconceived prejudices, Jules believes that Ben’s old age would make his work knowledge outdated and useless to the company. She's a perfectionist who's constantly on the go. She's difficult to work for and she knows it. She loves and respects all of her employees.
Ben wake up early and takes care to dress impeccably for his first day at work. The other intern who is Davis a young man, sets up his tablet with a various gadgets. While Ben’s table has basic stationery and simple calculator and watch. Ben makes himself productive, getting to know the ropes around the place and learning how to deal with the technology. He helps whomever he can; he also gives old school sensible advice to the youngsters when they need it. Ben starts to be noticed more and more around the office especially after he is lauded by having a bell rung for him {an office practice to highlight good performance}. Ben’s internship happens to coincide with a challenging period in the growth of Jules’ company; Jules’ aide-de-camp Cameron brings her the unusual news that the company’s investors, while delighted with its success, would like to bring an outside CEO to the company. Jules dutifully interviews prospects even as she’s dizzied by the idea that she could be effectively ousted from her own creation. In the meantime, her home life—she has a too milquetoast to-be-a-bro-dad husband and a predictably delightful and adorable young daughter is taking the standard can-a-career-woman-have-it-all hits. And at least one hit that’s not so standard, or maybe I should say, not so easy to stand. While he is trying to find his place in this fast pace, high-tech world, Ben finds his place in the company. Ben comes to realise that some things have changed in the workplace, but many things are the same. The more experienced Ben also begins to help young entrepreneur Jules to find her place in the unforgiving world of business. Ben is not only focusing to his Job he also focus on the emotional situations with his co-worker especially to Jules his boss; he give insightful opinions and shows that he has useful experience. However, Jules realizes his life time of experience surpasses his lack of knowledge on the modern ways of the jobs and in life and finds that she has a lot to learn from him. Jules teaching Ben about the new and Ben teaching Jules about the old. At the End of the story Jules also realizes that Ben becomes her assistant, her chauffeur, her baby sitter, her mentor, father-figure and best friend.

CRITIQUES:
What’s most impressive about The Intern is how much it does with its premise and just as importantly what it doesn’t do with it. The Intern movie was a comedy story, suddenly change it to drama. When Ben saw Matt (Jules husband) having an affair. Ben had a hard time to decide either not to tell or to tell the truth to his boss which is Jules. We all know that Ben is out of the Family business but as a Father figure and a best friend to Jules he has the right to tell and give some advice to Jules.
The story The Intern is a gentle, enjoyable fantasy and certainly the Director’s has a best film. The film’s opening moments immediately earn our sympathy and respect, and it’s clear that the movie is after more than arbitrary punch lines. Yes, it plays a little with generation gaps a little, but everyone has a relaxed chemistry, and there is an overriding sense of can-do decency. As Ben adjusts to a different kind of workforce, and Jules deals with challenges to her leadership and the push-pull of family and work, they of course eventually form a working relationship that blossoms into a genuine friendship. The Intern was a nice story they shows the good relationship between the Owner and the employees. Not in the relationship between the workplace and also their relation outside the company, of course in reality we need an Employer who has a good characteristic to their employees to create a good workforce. The Intern is not groundbreaking cinema, but it is an enjoyable journey into the value that each generation can provide for one another. Internships are meant to provide new experiences and insights for people. The Intern met this brief and, in the process, provided a few laughs, so that we do not take this life too seriously. Both Ben and Jules gave great performance to this film they play the role as a very real. And I applaud the writer/director for her creation of a relevant and delightful movie. This movie is a light hearted family movie.

INSIGHT:
My insight in my first line “Experience never get old” is an old experience intern can bring things to a business that will be unexpected and often lead the company to greatness. While younger, new interns can provide innovation and new ideas than can also help business succeed.
The Intern epitomises this verse in the Bible by showing the value of various generations, even as often there is a tendency to look upon certain ages as having greater value than others. In opposition to that idea, The Intern and Proverbs communicate that each chapter in this life is new and the challenge is for each of us to take advantage of each opportunity that comes along. Some chapters may prove to be better than others, but ultimately each chapter adds to the overall richness of this life and challenge us to live each chapter as it is opened.
This movie makes me think more about life.

Exploiting Interns

...RUNNING HEAD: Unpaid Internships Exploiting Students: Harsh Reality of Unpaid Internships In the article “Jobs Few, Grads Flock to Unpaid Internships,” Stephen Greenhouse writes about the harsh reality of internships in the United States (2012). Greenhouse, the labor and workforce reporter for The New York Times, explains in his article the specific stories of unpaid interns and lawsuits filed against companies who did not compensate these individuals. The internship programs that Greenhouse reports on oppress both women and men with unfair work expectations and poor opportunities for advancement. With the help of this article and other supporting materials, I will clarify the relationship between these unpaid, exploited students and the material covered in my Women Studies class. In the article, Greenhouse points out that since 1985, the unemployment rate for graduates twenty-four years old and younger has risen 9.4 percent (Greenhouse, 2012). Speculators estimate that this number is increasing so rapidly because of students’ willingness to work for free in internship positions. The article explains this phenomenon stating that many students feel this is the best way to get a foot in the door with a possible future employer. More and more businesses are refusing to hire students who have not completed an internship program. However, Greenhouse explains that even after the completion of an interning program, many students are left uneducated about the type of...

Congressional Intern Analysis

...Interns, as portrayed on television shows and movies, go on “coffee runs” for employees, fill the printer with ink, and are submissive to their bosses in hopes of receiving a full-time job at the company. Being an intern exposes you different situations beyond textbook definitions, as you are a representative for the company, regardless of your lower status. As a former congressional intern for our local Congressman, I learned these lessons through trial and error, as I broaden my perspective about my community and its citizens. On my first day as an intern, I assumed that my charismatic smile, polished pencil skirt, and confident walk would be the recipe to my success at a congressional office, as I was now part of something greater than I had ever imagined. I was an official congressional intern, after all. Each day, I greeted fellow employees politely, in hopes that the message of my confidence and hard work would reach to the big man himself: the Congressman....

Goals are important as they act as indicators to show the right progress of any organization ranging from leadership to production of products or services (MacLeod, 2012). In a patient centered care center too, it is important that the management embark on setting goals which will be used and adhered to by the doctors, nurses, stakeholders, and the health care system management (Hersh et al., 2012). Internship Culture

...Proposal: To set up a National Internship Programme (NIP) and covert the existing Jobsbridge scheme into this framework. Overview The Jobsbridge scheme was primarily designed to help all who had difficulty in obtaining paid employment for more than 3 months. This was to be done by reserving a significant number of positions to only be applied for those who had been in receipt of social welfare payments for more than 3 months. In addition to this overarching aim, in my view an additional underlying motivation behind the Jobsbridge could be seen in it enabling young graduates to gain a foothold on the career ladder where they did not have the requisite practical work experience to make them an attractive option for many employers. This lack of work experience was an especial detriment in the jobs market as the impact of the recession was making itself known. Not only did the recession lessen the number of jobs available it also increased competition for those jobs as a large number of redundancies across the economy brought a large number of applicants for positions who had many years of experience in their sector. Young graduates were forced to compete for fewer entry level positions against those who had many years of experience in the particular sector and who were available to pursue these entry level positions due to redundancy. Maintain the existing criteria for Jobsbridge with some exceptions: 1) the nature of the applicant; 2) extension of the internships available;...

Business Ethics

...Organizational Behavior Audrey Locke is a summer intern for a very successful North American company of Brussels and Bradshaw Investment Bank. As it seems in most organizations, the new guy, or girl in this case, is often subject to treatment that can be misunderstood as abusive. Those that are in positions within an organization see this as ‘weeding out the week’. From the view point of Audrey and other past interns, it can be seen as unnecessary and disheartening. For those that are intent on making a future in investments, it seems that you are going to have to learn how to adjust. In fact, Blake Cooper, one of the managing partners of the Toronto Office with Audrey is performing her internship at stated “We cannot afford to get soft on our people by listening to analysts whine and complain about each other. Once you start, where does it stop? They’ll figure out how to get along on their own if you let them. These are professionals. We are all here to make money and the only way to make money in this business is to work together. Those that want to get ahead will recognize that – and those are the people we want at Brussels and Bradshaw.” (Hitt, Miller, Colella, 2011) Issues and Recommendations It seems that this situation of being stepped on is not going to change. Since this seems to be a companywide pandemic, it is going to take a ton of pressure from the top and directive to stay on course to change the fact that summer interns are the workhorses for the office space. With...

Applied Education

...May 1st, 2015   Michelle Kyriakides Career Services Director, Experimental Learning Saint John’s University 8000 Utopia Parkway Queens NY 11439  Dear Ms. Kyriakides, It is in the nature of Saint John’s University to always enhance, educate and strive for excellence in all aspects. Career Services is a vital department of the university that is not being used to its fullest potential. While a number of students are continuing to graduate with a diploma of academic success, many still are not prepared for the real world. Majority of students spending an entire semester absorbing lectures and solely taking notes, to simply be tested. This does not qualify as a complete educational experience. While learning through lectures and studying is important, it should not encompass a hundred percent of a college semester. This repetitive form of learning is not thoroughly benefiting students. There is a significant piece of the puzzle that is absent from the university: Experience. I am calling this issue to your attention because a project of this scale would need funding from the department. Using the program “Applied Education”, designed to combine coursework and fieldwork into a holistic educational experience could be a benefit to you. I understand that you assure SJU students are receiving the best advice to compete in today's global marketplace. It was through your innovative new model, that the university has significantly increased student engagement with Career...

This position seems like it would be a great fit for me because I am extremely interested in the business strategy of a company and how the people working for the company can directly influence how successful a business is. I want to be in Dallas, Texas at Texas Instruments’ main office where I can get the most enriching experience. However, after I have learned as much as I can at the Dallas office and when I am comfortable with my position, I want to move to the Houston office because Houston is where I grew up and it is where I want to raise a family. In five year, I want to be working in the human resources department at Texas Instruments. I want to start out in their Compensation position within the HR department. My major is in accounting and I like to work with numbers, so I believe the Compensation position would be a good starting point for me. I have also been advised that this position is a great HR position to begin with, especially if you want to work your way to the HR Business Generalist position, because you learn a lot about the company and their financing. It can be an excellent time for a student to apply his or her theoretical knowledge in the desired field, or to see if it is a career path that they might want to stay in. Internship provides an opportunity for a student to experience the things that he or she had learned inside the four corners of his or her classroom in a real life setting.
