The Academy Award winning film Ordinary People is a story about the Jarrett family, and what they went through during their time of loss. The Jarrett family lost their son, Buck, in a boating accident. This incident changed the family and how they react with each other. Beth, the mother, buried her feelings inside and refused to let them out. She also blames her other son for the fact that Buck is dead. Conrad, Beth’s other son, was on the boat with Buck. He tried to save him, but it did not go so well considering the end result. Ever since then, Conrad has had survivor's guilt that has caused him to hurt himself trying to get rid of it. He feels responsible for the way Buck died. He thinks that there was a way to save him. Calvin, the dad, is upset about the whole thing, but he wants to make everyone happy.
