In fact he had two, one was in the dining room and the other was hung in the family room. He considered himself a very religious man and believed every family should have one because it symbolized faith and unity within the family. Up until recently I believe the painting was an recreated image of Jesus and his disciples of what the painter felt they should look like and not actual members of the Da Vinci family posing for a photo. Some images shows Jesus with his head bowed slightly while his eyes appear to be close as if he’s blessing the food. Growing up as a child it was taught that everyone sat and ate dinner at the same time and my father gave grace. Even as an adult, whenever I attend family gatherings whether it’s cook-outs, family reunion, birthday parties or dinner at home we all sit to a table and someone blesses the food.
