...heading for a single destination. Elephants plodded steadily. Antelope leaped through the grass. Giraffes loped. Cheetahs raced. Ants marched in a single line, while huge flocks of flamingoes winged across the sky. They were all journeying to Pride Rock to celebrate the birth of King Mufasa’s son. Above the gathering, on the top of Pride Rock, Rafiki, the wise, old mystic, approached King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi. He cracked open a gourd, dipped his finger in the liquid, and made a special mark on the infant’s forehead. Then he carried the cub to the edge of the rock and held it high. A loud cheer rose from the plain. Elephants trumpeted. Monkeys screeched. Zebras, rhinos, and a host of other animals stamped their hooves. Then a hush fell over the gathering. Together, the animals of Mufasa’s kingdom knelt before Simba, their new prince. Yet one family member did not attend the ceremony. Mufasa’s brother, Scar, had spent the entire morning toying with a mouse. He was just about to eat it when Zazu, the king’s majordomo, appeared. Startled, Scar turned, and the mouse scampered away. “Now look, Zazu, you’ve made me lose my lunch!” Scar complained. “You’ll lose more than that when the king gets through with you!” But Scar wasn’t listening. He was still hungry, and Zazu was beginning to look pretty tasty. Scar pounced, but before he had time to eat Zazu, a voice commanded, “Drop him!” Scar released the bird. “Why, if it isn’t my big brother,” he sneered. “Sarabi...

...It would be beneficial to all students to watch The Lion King as it is a true representation of the play Hamlet. William Shakespeare's play Hamlet is a play about a character's struggles with the opposing forces of moral integrity and the need to avenge his father's murder. Disney's The Lion King is an award winning film about a young lion cub named Simba, and his struggles against himself and reality. The movie, The Lion King, and the book, Hamlet, both have a similar story line. Shakespeare's Hamlet and Disney's The Lion King have similar occurrences such as, the king is killed and revenge is sought by the king's son, the murderers are the king's brothers who want the power of the throne, and many others; but each story is also unique in their own ways. There are many comparisons between the play and movie. The setting of The Lion King, Pride Rock represents the castle Elsinore both are beautiful places that are homes to the king. Simba is Hamlet; they are both out for revenge when they learn who their fathers’ killer is. They are both also fighting to get back what is theirs, becoming king. Mufasa is like Hamlet’s dad. They were both well respected kings that get murdered by their own brothers in order for them to receive the thrown. Nala, representing Ophelia, is a beautiful young lion as Ophelia is a beautiful young girl. Both have a developing relationship with the prince of the kingdom. Although they play practically the same part, Nala is more forceful and stubborn...

...The Lion King and Hamlet Essay The Lion King & Hamlet - Comparative Essay “All it takes for Evil to prevail in this world is for good men to do nothing.” Disney’s The Lion King placed a children’s façade on a very serious story of responsibility and revenge. This theme, however, is one of the oldest in history, and while it is not the most apparent, it does exist by William Shakespeare. The Lion King seems not to be based on a fairytale, but rather on the Tragedy of Hamlet by William Shakespeare. The basic character archetypes are concealed, and the storyline is simplified for children. But with a closer inspection of the characters themselves and the storyline, we the seasoned readers, can see just how apparent these similarities are. The story of The Lion King closely parallels that of Hamlet. It is about the jealousy of an uncle named Scar towards his nephew, Simba, who is the son of the king, and rightful heir to the throne. This jealousy drives him to take drastic action to secure himself to the throne. The only way he can do this is to kill his brother, King Mufasa and Simba. He accomplishes this by killing Mufasa and goes on to become the King of the Pride Lands and leader of the pack, thus “marrying” Simba’s mother, Sarobi. After the plan that Scar puts into action is completed, Scar finds his plan was only half successful; Simba survives. However, the clever, smooth talking uncle tricks the young and susceptible Simba into thinking that he is responsible for...

...The film I decided to summarize is The Lion King by Walt Disney. It is an animated film as are all Disney movies. The movie opens with the themes song “The Circle Of Life” playing as the camera show Mufasa, king of the lions holding his newborn son Simba. The whole community of animals is here at Pride Rock to witness young Simba because he is the future king. Everyone in the kingdom is happy about the birth of the new prince except for one lion. That lion is Scar. Scar is Mufasas brother and was next in line to be king before Simba took his place. Scar is angry and jealous of young Simba. Young Simba is a very happy lion. He plays all the time with his best friend, a lioness named Nala. Simba is watched by the bird Zazu, and when Zazu tells Simba that one day he will be king, Simba is more then happy bursting into the song “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King”. Scar meanwhile has other plans for Simba. One day Scar sends Simba to play in the elephant graveyard and Scar also sends his minions , they hyenas there. The hyenas try to kill Simba but Mufasa shows up and saves Simba. When Scar learns of this he becomes angered even more and sings “Be Prepared” in reference to his plan to kill Simba. Scar has the plan set. He lures Simba to the gorge and gets him to wait there, while the hyenas cause a stampede of the wilderbeast. Scar knows that Simba has no chance of surviving the stampede. Simba is on his way to doom when Mufasa comes to his aid again. Mufasa gets Simba out of harms...

However, Scar, Simba's uncle, is willing to take the place of Mufasa. Aiming to be the new king, he plans to kill both Mufasa and Simba. Then, Scar always makes little Simba out of Mufasa's controlling area, so that he can eaier to take Simba's life. Luckly, Mufasa saved Simba in time. However, Mufasa is killed by the trap made by Scar and Simbar is driven away. During his fugitive life, Simba meets tactful Timon and kind Pumbaa. They bring Simba up and make him strong. Finally, Simba decides to go back to his land and reconquer his kingdom. Though the fight, retake the king of his land, Simba grows up to a brave and responsible king. From this move, Simba is my favorite character. According this move, I also learned learning from good and bad leadership. Powerful metaphor of light and shadow illustrate the differences between ethical and unethical leadership. Those who cast shadows abuse power, manipulate information, and deceitful, and act incongruently. Behaviors and traits of leaders who cast light include humility, compassion, courage, optimism, and integrity. In this move, the light is Simba, he is very kind, smart, and brave. As a leader, Ethic is the heart of his leadership. His leadership that is effective, in his goals was achieved, and that follows a sound and ethical process. Also, Character development is an essential...

...Leadership The Lion King; Analysis 1. Mufasa demonstrated a significant amount of all three of these skills in the beginning of the movie as he was very successful as the King of pride rock. He is characterized as a righteous, wise, and kindhearted leader, but admirably powerful and courageous as well. Throughout the movie Simba demonstrated development as a leader. 2. Rafiki demonstrated a significant amount of Transformational Leadership when he was motivating Simba to go back and save the people of pride rock. Servant leadership can be demonstrated as the behavior Timon and Pumba demonstrated when saving and taking care of Simba. Servant leaders strive to help their followers who have "broken spirits and have suffered from a variety of emotional hurts. Mufasa demonstrated transformational leadership showing Simba the way but did not force it on him. I would have to characterize Simbas behavior as Authentic Leadership because he was not afraid to openly show his emotions and how he really felt throughout the movie especially when he came to realize that it was him who needed to save the people of Pride Rock. He was also very open to Timon Pumba. 3. Both Timon and Pumba taught Simba their feel good philosophy of Hakuna Matata, meaning "no worries"; their carefree approach helped Simba put "his past behind" and gradually mature into a carefree lion of intelligence and self-worth. Timon and Pumba helped Simba grow into a healthier, wiser and more independent lion. Simba was...

...The Lion King Essay When is a movie not just a movie? When it has been painstakingly researched, as in the case of Disney’s The Lion King. It took Disney three years to make The Lion King, and a significant portion of that time was spent researching Africa and its ecology to make sure they portrayed everything correctly. The Lion King is an entertaining movie, but it also has ecological lessons for the discerning viewer. For instance, a large food chain, or multiple series of organisms each dependent on the next as a source of food, is shown in the Pridelands; the symbiotic relationships displayed in the movie have counterparts in real life; and abiotic and biotic external factors which influence organisms, populations and communities are present in the movie as well as real life. In the movie, Mufasa says to his son, “… When we die, our bodies become the grass. And the antelope eat the grass. And so we are all connected in the great Circle of Life.” This is only part of the aforementioned food web (also known as the Circle of Life) There are food webs everywhere, yet none is exactly alike. The food web specific to the Pridelands is unique, yet similar to savannas in real life. The lions are the top carnivore in the mentioned/implied food web. Lions in real life eat smaller mammals such as antelopes, zebras, hippos, and warthogs. Lions in the movie eat mice, antelopes, zebras, hornbills, hippos, and warthogs. Note: Timon, a meerkat, and Pumbaa, a warthog introduce Simba, the...

...ludicrous at first, is in reality, more sensible than one might think. Since 1994, The Lion King has been a must-see film for children all around the world. Its 8.5 rating on IMDB lists it alongside of some of the greatest movies ever made. Children’s movies that were released around this time were all shallow and simplistic. The reason why The Lion King was so successful is because it was an unexpected and pleasant anomaly. The Lion King is a story of responsibility and revenge, masked by a setting that is known to be appealing to children. However, this is not the first time something with this same story line has been told. In fact, William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, one of the most popular pieces of literature of all time, parallels The Lion King in many more ways than one. The Lion King and Hamlet are best compared through the actions of the secondary characters, the exploration of the theme of death, and the striking similarities present in each works’ protagonist. Obviously, all plot events are not exactly the same, however the differences are insignificant to the point that the majority of the storyline and major characters still remain the same. The reflections of Hamlet in The Lion King are so strong that there are 3 sets of secondary characters that bear a striking resemblance to one another: Mufasa and King Hamlet, Claudius and Scar, as well as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and the hyenas. King Hamlet ruled his country virtuously and successfully. This is made clear by Horatio...

...between Hamlet and the lion king. For example both of the kings in the lion king and Hamlet were killed by there brothers, but there are also some differences like in Hamlet, hamlet dies at the end and so does his uncle, but in the lion king only the uncle dies. In Hamlet, hamlet sees his father in a ghost form and the father ask him to avenge his death by killing his uncle, in doing so he makes people believe that he is mad so they don’t know what he’s trying to achieve. ...Leadership Styles in The Lion King Central Michigan University MSA 601 John Zappala Leadership is a quality that some people possess which allows them to rule, affect and lead other people. That quality consists of a person’s charisma, power of thought, intellectual potential, and sense of responsibility. According to Kinicki and Fugate, leadership is defined as, “a social influence in which the leader seeks the voluntary participation of subordinates in an effort to reach organizational goals," (p. 364). Today’s world requires leadership to compete and succeed. The rapidly changing conditions in an organization demand adaptive leadership styles, and the success of an organization relies on leaders evaluating and applying effective leadership styles. Good start Leadership and power are the main focuses in Disney’s animated movie The Lion King. The film describes the evolvement of a relationship in the animal kingdom after Mufasa, the king of Pride Rock, and Sarabi, his wife, give birth to their son, Simba. Simba’s birth denies Scar, Mufasa’s younger brother, the kingship that he would have inherited if Simba hadn’t been born that’s a run on, make them shorter. Scar is extremely jealous of his older brother, is obsessed with the idea of becoming king and obtaining power over...

...John Gerald Dulay Reflection Paper: The Lion King Watching Lion King again after last watching when I was 10 years old, gave me a rush of nostalgia throughout the movie. It was a movie that was an essential piece to one’s childhood. If one did not watch it, then he/she did not truly live out their childhood. However, I came to realize how complex ideologies was presented in the movie, mainly, the concept of leadership. When I was younger, the only thing I thought about was how Simba should avenge his father and take out the bad guy, which was Scar in the movie. But now, I understood the importance of family, friendship, trust, respect, and leadership. In the movie, there I learned how the three main Lions: Scar, Mufasa and Simba, exemplified leadership in their own way. First, Scar, who became a leader and King of Pride Rock through underhanded tactics. He killed his very own brother just to obtain such position. However, during his rule, he instilled and used fear a way to dominate those who inhabited the land. Aside from this, he showed a flaw that restricted him from being a good leader: he craved too much for power that he neglected to listen to the opinion or voice of others. This was shown in the scene wherein Sarabi said that there was no more food to hunt and it was best to move the pack elsewhere. However, Scar simply disregarded her opinion and shouted at her to show dominance. A leader should be one that is open to the opinion and comments of...

...In The Lion King, Minkoff and Allers present a clear difference between good and evil, whereas Shakespeare’s depiction of good and evil character in Hamlet is not so clear. The characters in The Lion King are categorised almost immediately in the orientation of the film, with the image of the characters giving the audience a clear picture of who the suspected betrayer is. However in the play Hamlet it’s a lot more difficult to label the characters as good or evil, the audience cannot be certain that Claudius is evil until the climax when he reacts to the play organised by Hamlet. There is a clear distinction between good and bad in The Lion King, this makes the audience highly suspect scar’s future betrayal of Mufasa and Simba. While in Hamlet we can never be sure about which characters to trust, as it’s difficult to ascertain whether Claudius is guilty for Hamlet’s (King) death because of his overly normal personality and lack in signs of guilt and worriedness. This indicates to the audience that Claudius is a calm and logical person, while it is then young Hamlet that is viewed to be untrustworthy due to his constant displays of madness. In The Lion King Scar is depleted as a skinny full grown adult male lion with a black mane, green eyes and a brown dark dirty fur complexion. Scars description connotes that he’s an unusual lion, most likely evil and unable to be trusted. Certain traits and events in The Lion King sets upon the audience that scar is evil, an example of...

...I have a secret obsession with any Disney movie. As do most people. But by far the best one ever is The Lion King! Not just for the simple fact that it is based off of Shakespeare Hamlet but for the fact that you can learn a lot from it. Whether it is life not giving you a break or you just simply need a pick me up. The Lion King does it all! 1) “Oh yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it… or learn from it. “ –Rafiki This quote is a lot to handle sometimes but the meaning is fairly simplistic. The past can hurt and things happen. But it is up to you for how you deal with the past. You can run and hide. Leaving you in some sort of fear of the past possibly catching up with you. Yet if you learn...
