Warhol was an American artist, print maker photographer and film maker who is very well known for his pop art, brightly presented portraits of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley are the paintings we all associate with him.
Born in in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1928 to Slovakian immigrants Ondrej Warhola and Julia Warhola, who were a construction worker and embroider.
Warhol found his passion and inspiration when he was just 8 years old his mother gave him lessons as she herself was an artist with skill. At the age of 9 his mother encouraged photography when she bought him a camera from there on he went on to finishing school.
All artists get inspiration from somewhere, his came from pop culture, he took popular things around him and changed them sometimes he made them look unrealistic but recognisable, he enhanced them by using bold contrasting and bright colours or he would often take an image and duplicate it, for example Andy Warhol’s image of Elvis he took a black and white photo of the star and placed the same image side by side 8 times.
Andy Warhol has made it so big that his picture “eight elvises” is the 6th most expensive painting to be sold. And the largest museum to hold one artist work holds his work. Warhol had a plentiful life which some would say ended too soon, he died at the age of 58 in his sleep after having a operation he was then buried next to his mother and father in a coffin made of bronze. Fans of his work pilgrimage to his grave and some leave a token, a can of Campbell’s soup as this was another famous piece of artwork he created.
My personal opinion of Andy Warhol’s work is that it’s pretty basic and simple and how he presents his work with the bright unrealistic colours is affective.
Gustav was Austrian, he was born in 1862 on July 14th he was the second of 7 children to his parents Anna and Ernest Klimt, his siblings also showed an interest in artistic skills. Living in poverty Gustav attended Vienna school of arts and crafts where he studied architecture until 1883.
In 1888 Klimt received the golden order of merit for his contributions towards painting a mural and also became an honorary member at both the University of Vienna and the University of Munich. In 1892 both his father and one of his brothers died. These tragedies affect his artwork and he soon started working towards more personal artwork.
In the early 1890’s Klimt met Emille Floge with whom he had a companionship with, she remained a companion to kilt until he died. Also in the 1890s he would take many holidays with the Floge family, here he would often paint his least famous art pieces of landscapes, landscapes and figure painting were the only 2 genres of painting Klimt was interested the most in 1894 kilt was asked to create three paintings for the ceilings of Vienna university he was heavily criticized for this artwork as it was erotic.
Klimt had what was called a golden phase, which was a reflection of his financial success he used gold leaf in his painting sot make them more extravagant
Later on in his life in 1911 he received a prize in the world exhibition for a painting entitled death and life
In 1915 his mother died and just 3 short years later he died too from a stroke and pneumonia from the influenza epidemic. He left numerous paintings unfinished and his paintings sell for a hefty price
