The U.S. Government is composed up of three key branches, the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch, and the Judicial Branch. Each branch has its own powers, functions, checks, and balances. First, we will look at the history of the Constitution. During the 1600’s many Europeans left Britain in search of economic, political, and intellectual freedoms. However, they remained under the power of Britain, which functioned under a unitary system of government with one national power that permitted it to take action against any individual. During the Revolutionary war, the states battled with Britain, and won their freedom from the unitary system of government of Britain (CTU online, 2008, phase 1 multimedia presentation).

Micro Economics It 273

... VOTER VICTOR This is my economic system research on how the government is involved in the lifes of voters and citizens in the U.S., you first have to take in consideration of what type of economy the US has, the three main levels of US government (city/county, state and federal), then you have to realize what is expected of these governing levels and what they need for them to support their functions. In my opinion the U.S. has a Mixed Economy but due to the limited government involvement, we can also say that the US has a Market Economy. An example of this is production of electricity by a coal burning plant. There is no limit on how much electricity can be made or how much coal can be used but the government has regulated how much pollution may be produced as a result of burning the coal. A mixed economy is an economy in which most economic decisions result from the interaction of buyers and sellers in markets but in which the government plays a significant role in the allocation of resources. A Market Economy is an economy in which the decision of households and firms interacting in markets allocate economic resources. The three levels of government, local (city and county), state, and federal, all play a part in mixed economy and market economy, in different ways being services that they provide, how those services are funded and voter involvement. At the local level, the government provides the following services: Police and Fire protection, Court systems...

Both of these unique governments are separated into three different powerful branches; the legislative, the executive, and the judicial. However, the way that three branches are ran within these two nations differ. The purpose of this essay is to examine these branches, and identify the differences between the two governments. Police History

...American policing was born as a product from the English heritage and focused on three main features which helped create American policing as we know of it today. The three main features were high value on individual liberty and on governmental authority, tradition of local control of law enforcement agencies, and a highly decentralized and fragmented system of law enforcement. Sir Robert Peel is known as the “father” of modern day policing. To this day his work is still discussed and taught at all different law enforcement training academies around America. Sir Robert Peel sought to fix England’s broken and collapsed law enforcement system. He created three core elements which are still used in today’s policing to help aid in crime prevention. The three core elements were the mission, strategy, and organizational structure of the police. Most of these ideas were adopted from the military but tailored to meet the needs of law enforcement. Those elements were designed to work with a proactive police approach rather than a reactive approach. Over the years since the birth of American Policing, law enforcement has seen several changes. Some of the changes are a planned and internally motivated, while others are the result of external social changes. One thing that has not changed is the need for a strong relationship between the U.S. Government and policing organizations. The first level of...

Global Education System

...its education policies (Terri, 2000). From a global perspective, education is compulsory for all children between the ages of three years and generally fifteen years. The education levels vary with the basic necessities of the country. For example, the education system in the USA is only compulsory between the age of 3 years and 14 years (Jan, 2009). Looking at the basic education system, it can be sub-divided into four basic sections each taking a different duration. The first part is the pre-school level. This level varies from country to country mostly running from two years to three years (Terri, 2000). This level is not compulsory in most countries but it is very essential since it creates the educational base for the child. In most countries, the teachers in this level are not employed by the government thus this poses a major challenge in the education sector. This also makes the level to be omitted when the education system states of the years spent in school. The classes undertaken in pre-school education are most on basic skills and memory training. The children are subjected to several speed test and storytelling sessions which helps improve their memory (Terri, 2000). The literacy work introduced mainly deals with basics of the number system and the alphabet. The most common levels in pre-school are the kindergarten, pre-unit and the nursery class. In education systems where the pre-school spans for two years, the work-load from the kindergarten class is combined...

Lanham Act Case Study

...On the federal level, the Lanham Act of 1946 is the main legislation. The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is the federal body in charge of reviewing and registering trademarks. It is the primary federal trademark statute of law in the United States. That said, if any business or person wants to register a trademark, patent, copyright, domain name or business name, they have to submit an application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, which will assign an examining attorney to study the application and pass on a decision of either approving or refusing the application. An examiner’s decision may be appealed to the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board within the USPTO. A Trademark Trial and Appeal Board decision may be appealed to a federal court. Trademarks and service marks are very important as they serve to distinguish a company’s or a person’s products or services from those of others. “A trademark distinguishes the source of a particular good or service, whether that is accomplished by a trade name, packaging, logo, or other distinguishing mark. When the law protects a trademark, it grants to the holder of the mark a limited monopoly: No one else may use that mark without the holder’s permission.” (McAdams, 2015). Once a trademark is registered with the USPTO, the rights of a trademark’s holder are not merely protected on a national level but on an international level as well under the Paris Convention, more formally...

Policing Functions

...specific areas of enforcement on a local, state and federal level. Law enforcement in the United States is one of three major components of the criminal justice system of the United States, along with courts and corrections. Although there is an inherent relationship between the different groups that make up the criminal justice system based on their crime deterrence purpose, each component operates independently from one another. There are 18,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide. Those agencies employ 1.1 million persons on a full-time basis, including about 765,000 sworn personnel. Sworn personnel are defined as those with general arrest powers. Agencies also employed approximately 100,000 part-time employees, including 44,000 sworn officers. These findings come from the 2008 Bureau of Justice Statistics’ (BJS) Census of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies (CSLLEA) (Reaves, 2011). Local law enforcement agencies include Municipal police, County police, the County Sheriff, Special District police, and the Tribal police. State law enforcement agencies are the State police and the Highway patrol. The federal agencies fall under the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice. The Department of Homeland Security includes the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Secret Service. The Department of Justice includes...

Development of the U.S Courts

...System; The U.S. court system is divided into two administratively separate systems, the federal and the state, each of which is independent of the executive and legislative branches of government. Such a dual court system is a heritage of the colonial period. By the time the U.S. Constitution had first mandated (1789) the establishment of a federal judiciary, each of the original Thirteen Colonies already had its own comprehensive court system based on the English model. To better understand how the Dual Court System works, we should analyze what is the meaning of Dual Court System; the United States has two court systems, the federal and the state. The federal court system, with exceptions, hears cases involving federal matters. There are fifty state courts, one for each state. These are independent of one another, and have their own rules and regulations. Usually, state courts decide cases that involve issues happening within the state. These state courts have been developed throughout the years, a very efficient system with multiple courts that allow attending different cases and trials (Lieberman 2004) Of the two systems, the federal is by far the less complicated. According to Article III of the Constitution, “The judicial Power of the United States shall be vested in Court and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish.” In accordance with this directive, the federal judiciary is divided into three main levels. At the bottom...

Within the boundaries of each state and coexisting with state courts are numerous federal district and appellate courts that function independently. It may seem overwhelming and baffling to consider what legal matter may be decided in which forum. But for the most part, federal and state courts have their own separate purpose and part in applying the laws before it and administering justice to all. Federal Judiciary The...

Civics and Economics Essay

...The Constitutional Convention was an important event because it is what lead us to the government we have now. The different compromises are what lead to the methods that were used and still being used nowadays The Constitutional Convention was a meeting that took place in Philadelphia in 1787. The purpose of that meeting was to rewrite the Articles of Confederation. There were fifty five men who were delegates, their purpose was to have the federal government strengthen. The delegates did not think that rewriting the Articles of Confederation would actually work out. Eventually they wrote the U.S. Constitution. George Washington was chosen to lead the convention. All of the delegates had to agree that every state would get one vote. They did not want anyone to know about what was going on during the convention meetings. The delegates made sure to keep everything a secret, anyone who was not a delegate were not allowed to attend any meetings. We have no written documents because they kept everything a secret of what had occurred during the meetings. The only details we have today is from a notebook that belonged to James Madison. However, James Madison is known as the “Father of the Constitution.” He had also helped write the federalist papers. At the Constitutional Convention James Madison had done a very good job. When the delegates had to decided to write the “Bill of Rights” he was against it. James Madison was afraid that the future people would just go by those...
