...Writing is a major part of any career. As a Health Science major, I did not realize how big of a role reading, writing and communicating plays in the health sciences field until I start taking my degree specific classes. All of the writing thus far has helped me realize how important being a good writer is, and helped me to see some of my strengths and weaknesses. I have never truly liked writing especially in the academic setting, but I know how important it is. Writing is a good way of expressing yourself and reflecting and analyzing your thoughts. I have never been confident in my writing skills, but I have seen major improvement over the year and hope to continue to grow as a reader and a writer. Improvements in My Writing I have saw...

...Reflective Self-Analysis My portfolio demonstrates my understanding of persuasive writing. My idea of persuasive writing is that a good essay will affect the reader in some way shape or form. I believe combining effective uses of logos, pathos, and egos along with structure are very important. My persuasive writing reflects the way I think about argumentation in general. I can see how easy it can be to write a paper arguing a point, but not doing it in the correct manner. For example, if a writer just argues his point without giving any strong evidence and offers no counter-argument the paper will not be effective in persuading the reader. While my writing demonstrates strengths in organization and thesis development, I will continue to work to improve proofreading skills and sentence structure. What’s helped my writing this semester is that I feel confident about work. My writing demonstrates my strength in organization. A lot of this strength originates from class activities and notes. The class that had the biggest effect on me was when we learned about rhetorical analysis structure on page one of my handwritten evidence. In my notes I specifically write down the structure along with extra notes under some categories so I fully understand how to attack the assignment. This led to me getting a perfect ten score under the argumentative structure part on the grading rubric on my rhetorical analysis essay, which is titled “Exposing Education.” Since that learning moment...

...Throughout junior college, writing has always been my weakest point and with the amount of writing assignments required at University of Phoenix this needs to be one of my top goals. Finally is to complete every course with no less than a B letter grade. With making the decision to return to school and taking on the considerable financial burden, receiving an average grade would be unacceptable to my standards. While being employed full-time, The University of Phoenix has the rare opportunity for working professionals to finish courses in just 5 weeks. Having such a compressed time schedule for completing degrees will make it possible to complete my bachelor of science in business management in 2 years as long as I do not deviate from the program. I have decided that my number one priority in life is to complete my degree. I do not have other major commitments outside of work that will distract me from my assignments so staying focused on school will be realistic. Though I cannot predict the future, I do not plan on taking any time off during the two years that would result in interrupting my class schedule. With the option of taking CLEP test this will allow me to “test out” of some of the lower-division courses such as communication arts and humanities. Although this will require additional studying outside of my upper-division courses the CLEP test can help eliminate additional courses needed to be taken, so I can stay on track of my 2 year goal. Writing papers has never...

...Megan Major Essay 1 ENC 1101 October 14, 2014 Valencia 1275 words How to Not Procrastinate Perfectionism and procrastination go together like peanut butter and jelly. By people expecting too much of themselves, they tend to become scared of writing and the essay not meeting their expectations and therefore procrastinating until the last minute. Although many more elements come into play, priorities and organizational skills are a big role in the way you may procrastinate. Many people may just need help in the organization department in order to not procrastinate and others may need help dealing with many more issues they have with the issue of procrastination. I believe in order to help prevent or totally eradicate procrastination from your work method; you must first look at yourself. Are you struggling with confidence or is it simply that you are too much of a perfectionist and nothing you seem to write is up to par? Well, the first step would be to stop over thinking everything you decide to put down on paper; it probably isn’t as bad as you think it is. When you stop over thinking, writing will come a lot easier and less forced than before and you may feel that you don't have to wait until the last minute to write your assignments. Also, with putting less pressure on yourself and constantly forcing yourself to rewrite the assignment over and over again; you’ll feel the weight of an elephant being lifted off your chest. Good organizational skills have been...

...Within the Analytical Independent Reading Log #2, there were countless errors that are needing to be revised. In fact, the first major error(s) made were pointless, silly mistakes such as bad grammar, spelling, or wrong word choice. The other major error that was pointed out was some confusing sentences. One main reason for these errors is the time spent writing and proofreading the text. Speeding through the writing process happens quite often, especially when the assignment is due that night and I may have procrastinated. Proofreading the text is very important to do as well, and while my proofreading may be poor, the errors that were not seen provide perfect evidence of how negatively they can impact an assignment. Another reason for these...
