Early morning on 18th of March 1990, two thieves dressed in Police uniform entered the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, USA and handcuffed the two guards removing them from the desk where they could alert the police. The pair stole 13 artworks worth 500 million US Dollars in just 81 minutes. Evidence shows that this heist may have been an inside job by the guards working at the museum. Richard E. Abath who was on duty that night has broken museum protocol 2 times before and let in unauthorised people in the museum which may suggest this heist was committed by him however there are some evidence suggesting against it. DiMuzio was a skilled thief and has been long involved with the Merlino Crew Reissfelder and DiMuzio entered the museum in police uniform handcuffing the guards and loading the artworks in their Red Dodge Daytona the car witnesses saw parked on the street next to the museum on the night of the heist and the car owned by DiMuzio. Witnesses say when the two men were loading in the artworks they were dressed in Boston police uniforms. In addition to this two of Reissfelder’s family have said to have seen Gardners’s stolen Manet in his apartment few months after the robbery.Ressfelder and DiMuzio closely fit the police sketches. The FBI believes that the artworks ended up in the hands of Robert Guarente and in 2010 Guarente’s wife told the FBI that Gurante gave two of the stolen artworks to a Connecticut mobsters. If they have committed this robbery it would explain how painting worth a enormous amount such as a Michelangelo or a Titian was not stolen as the robbers did not have much knowledge about the paintings worth.
