...The Mysterious Blogger Rafael A Berastain ETH/316 Nov 14, 2013 Professor Jones The Mysterious Blogger Despite a new computer security system, someone, who must be a company employee, is still posting company information on a private blog site. Most of the information is available elsewhere, but the leak concerns you. One of your other employees determines who is posting the information, at home and without company authorization. The other employee also hacks into the blogger’s home computer and discovers a material that is not allowed in the company computers. The ethical issues on “The Mysterious Blogger” were whether the information obtained by Jamal Moore, the IT Tech was enough to discipline Aaron Webb, the blogging employee for violating the NDA policy. In one side, the company has an employee named Aaron Webb that is posting illegal blogs and violating some of the company policies. In the other hand, the company has another employee, Jamal Moore that is trying to help somehow to unsolved this mystery blogger. The only thing is that Jamal is also violating some of the company policies by letting me know about the situation. After finishing the Ethic simulation, I notice that my decision was only made on thinking only what is right and also thinking that I did not want anybody to think that I chose anybody sides. In order for the company employees to learn the consequences of wrong actions, they need it to see what the outcome was. Not really paying attention to...

...Mysterious Blogger/Veiled ID Torey Flowers ETH/316 July 21, 2013 George Price The ethical issues that were presented in the Week Three Ethics Game Simulations were from The Mysterious Blogger and The Veiled ID. The ethical issues on “The Mysterious Blogger” were whether the information obtained by Jamal Moore, the IT Tech was enough to discipline Aaron Webb, the blogging employee for violating the NDA policy. As for “The Veiled ID”, the ethical issue had to do with how to develop and implement a security policy that provides for employees’ physical safety and accommodating special needs. The decision making process used to work on these ethical issues were based on the job descriptions given by the simulation. These decisions were made to protect the interest of shareholders and to prevent possible discrimination lawsuit against the company. Everyone involved from investors to company employees will be affected by any ethical decisions that arise out of this issue. It will also have an effect on the community, based on the decision that is made. Doing what is morally right and fair for the primary stakeholders and the community at large is what influenced my decision making in the simulation. You must keep in mind that you are not the only one that is affected by the issue. Whether directly or indirectly, there are numerous people who will be affected by the issue and by the outcome of the decision that’s made. Apart from doing the right thing and following...

In the Mysterious Blogger, the manager of safety and efficiency was made aware of an employee that blogged about confidential company information. Another employee then took it upon himself to find out who the individual was. This employee then illegally obtained the information of the blogger by hacking into his home computer. The main issue for the manager was to determine whether or not she should use the information obtained illegally to discipline the employee that violated the non-disclosure agreement. In the Veiled Identity, the manager was in the process of implementing a security system and was leaning towards a system that used photo identification as a means of entry into the building. The manager was made aware of a Muslim employee who would be breaking the rules of her religion if she were photographed without the traditional veil. The main issue was in developing a security policy that provides for employees’ physical safety and accommodates special needs. The decision making steps used in choosing the best options for each dilemma consisted of first determining the issue and the stakeholders. Once these are determined, the use of the Rights and Responsibilities lens, Results lens, Relationship lens, and Reputation lens help the manager to weigh the outcomes in order to make the best decision. ...Organizational Issues Ethics and Social Responsibility/ETH 316 December 10, 2012 University of Phoenix Organizational Issues Ethics are a set of principles or values that help guide people to determine if something is right or wrong. They influence decisions that people make everyday. They are also the principles and standards of conduct the guide an individual or a group. In this week's assignment I opted for the EthicsGame simulations: “The Mysterious Blogger” and “The Veiled ID” The two simulations provided different ethical issues. “The Mysterious Blogger concerns the issue obtaining information that was illegally obtained to prove that an employee violated a non-disclosure agreement. Aaron Webb is an employee working in the MD department and posted confidential information in a blog concerning the company. An IT tech, Jamal Moore felt that his supervisor was not taking the situation seriously. He took it upon himself to hacked into Mr. Webb's home computer and found incriminating evidence. In “The Veiled ID” concerns the issue of protecting employees while also protected their rights and special needs. The company is beefing up security due to an unfortunate situation. The solution is to have each employee where security badges with a photo ID. Atsha Mullah religious belief is not to be seen without her veil to anyone other than her family and the photo would be in violation of that belief. In both simulations the solutions...

...The Mysterious Blogger In the case of the mysterious blogger the associate director of operations has put in a new security system but Jamal Moore hacked the system. He did this only because there was an unidentified employee who was posting company-related information on a private blog. Jamal Moore is one of the company’s IT employees but he retrieved the bloggers identity from his house without the company’s consent. Jamal Moore discovers that the mysterious blogger is Aaron Webb. He sends this information over to the Associate Director of Operations an e-mail with this information. The associate director of operations has to decide if it would be ethical to use the information that Jamal Moore provided to discipline Aaron web for violating the non-disclosure agreements (NDA) of the company. Depending upon the lens there are different decision-making steps will be used ethically to address the issue but the first step is to determine who the primary stakeholders are. The associate director of operations used the rights and responsibility lens and the result lens. She has to determine what duties she owes the primary stakeholders. That will assist her in deciding which option best fulfills the requirement of this lens. This would be to “fire Jamal Moore for his unsanctioned illegal activity. Fire Aaron Webb for violating NDA.” When the rights and responsibilities lens was used the associate director of operations was rational and treated the employees equally. With the results...

The second skill involves the use of the Baird Decision Model which is a five-step process that gives a systematic approach to the resolution of an ethical dilemma. The five steps of the Baird Decision Model include: * Step 1: Be Attentive * Step 2: Be Intelligent * Step 3: Be Reasonable * Step 4: Be Responsible * Step 5: Be Reflective The combination of the ethical lenses with the decision model provides the groundwork to come up with, good value based, solutions to ethical conflict (Rian Brown, 2014). Mysterious Blogger The first ethical conflict that was presented was that of the “Mysterious Blogger.” In this simulation the Director of Information Technology, who is responsible for managing all internal information system functions which include systems programming, application programming, networks, and computer operations, is presented with an employee who is leaking the proprietary company information to the public through a blog sight as an anonymous writer. ...ETHICS GAME DILEMMAS In selecting the Ethics Game Dilemmas simulation, two in-depth situations were presented that identified dilemmas in very different areas. Both situations dealt with ethical issues inside a business setting. Yet, each situation’s dilemma, while within a business setting, brought in two very different types of issues that are relatable in today’s business world. In the simulation titled “The Mysterious Blogger,” a company regulation stated that it was against the rules for an employee to release certain company information. It was found through a general search of the internet by the IT department that a blog contained information about the company. The information did not contain proprietary information about any of their products, but did raise an issue regarding the safety practices of the company. It was determined that this type of information could only come from an employee. A certain IT employee took it a step further and hacked into the home computer of the anonymous blogger. It was found that it was indeed an employee of the company that posted the information. After hacking into the personal computer of the employee, the IT employee sent an anonymous email to the Director that contained the name of the employee who posted the blog. The ethical issue in this situation was how to deal with the employee who put the company information regarding the safety practices of the company on the internet and how to deal with the IT employee who...

The passionate communities After an intensive search on Internet we did not find very popular blogs and forums that focus solely in chocolates or sweets or candies. Their importance and popularity was measured based on their ranking and visitors’ country (in order to ensure that they are visited by English-speaking counties) in Alexa.com (Alexa is a company that provides analytics for websites) and based on the number of subscribers, likes on Facebook and followers on twitter. Another limitation was that almost all those blogs were not associated with traveling in order to taste chocolate and sweets. Therefore we decided to look for food blogs. Generally speaking we found out that food blogs are more popular – based on the factors that are mentioned above – which seems to be logical as the topic of food is broader than the topic of chocolates. Here are some examples: 1. Chocolate-covered Katie (http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/ ) Chocolate-covered Katie is the most influential blog in terms of Facebook likes (around 76000) and Twitter followers (almost 15000). The blog states that you have...
