On Oct. 25, Tom Birarelli, a lobsterman from Massachusetts, caught a rare creature in one of his lobster nets.

Birarelli typically catches about 20-30 lobsters in his traps, which are placed just 10 miles from Beverly Harbor, but on this particular day he got more than he expected.

In the bottom of one of his traps, he found a bright blue lobster. This type of lobster is extremely rare, and it is estimated that lobstermen only have a one in two million chance of finding one.

But what was even more amazing was that Birarelli says he knows of other lobstermen who have caught similar blue lobsters.

Regardless of his familiarity with this rare type of lobster, Birarelli says he was astonished to find one of his own.
