...The Necklace vs. The Story of an Hour Pamela Richard ENG 125 Lesa Hadley May 11, 2012 The Necklace vs. The Story of an Hour A short story, “The Necklace” (“La parure”) written by Guy de Maupassant in 1884 and a poem, ‘The Story of an Hour” written by Kate Chopin in 1894 are literary works that are very comparable yet are different. The two women, Madame Mathilde Loisel and Louise Mallard, portrayed in these literary works are protagonists who have trouble because of conflicting expectations imposed on them by society. Both Mathilde Loisel and Louise Mallard want something more than what their lifestyle offers them. During the time when the authors wrote these pieces, the social behaviors showed gender suppression/oppression. This essay will compare and contrast elements of content, form, and style between two different literary works. Both authors chose the theme of gender roles in marriage. During the time when the authors wrote theses pieces, the social behaviors showed gender suppression/oppression. The nineteenth century was impacted by the industrial revolution which caused a gap in gender roles, especially in the upper and middle classes (Radek, 2001). Men and women were thought to have completely different natures. Men were considered to be powerful, brave, rational and independent. Women were considered weak, timid, emotional, and dependent. Those differences separated their functions in society. "Men were thought to have natures suited to the public...

...Positive Reinforcement Oona Searcy ECE 201 Debra Lawrence May 28, 2012 Behavior is something that starts at home and is hard for teachers to deal with if there is not support from the parents. When a child first enters into the school world teachers have no idea what to expect but they have to be prepared for any and everything that a child brings. Laying down the rules and procedure in the beginning can help. Teachers are like a child’s parent because a child spends most of their time in the teachers presents so motivating them to be and do their best is what a student looks for. In this paper we will discuss Doug’s situation and what positive reinforcement can be done to help out the situation and what strategies will help to fix the problem. In Doug’s case all strategies can be used to help make the situation better because they are things that should be applied to a classroom on day to day bases, so the one that I chose to use is Contingent Instructions. Contingent Instructions are specific directions given to an individual student to cease an undesired behavior and to engage in a more appropriate alternative. Doug is so focused on his lego’s that nothing else matter to him and his teacher along with his parents must help find a way to make him focus on his assignments like he do his lego’s. The one way you can use the lego’s to do math would be to set the problems with...

...known as “Mossy Foot”. This is a foot disease many people obtain from not wearing shoes while working in heavy soil. Fungus gets into the pores on the bottom of the foot and ends up destroying the lympathatic system (the tissue that fights against bacteria). TOMS is working to fight the disease and help bring shoes to people in need. (http://tomsshoes.com) TOMS has used its creativity skills to create other styles of shoes. For example they create many designs of shoes other than the classic farming shoe pictured above. Products of TOMS include, botas (a high top sort of sneaker), cordones (a low top sneaker like shoe), wedges for women, and a tall wrap boot for women. TOMS has decided to expand even further and they are creating t-shirts, necklaces, and hats...

...First Interview vs. Second Interview | | | First interview and second interviews differ in major aspects. First interviews are normally carried out by a human resources officer, whose intention is to check out your academic background, skills set and work experience against the info on your resume. There is greater flexibility in the format of second interviews, which may involve a one-on-one meeting (probably with your potential immediate supervisor), panel or group interviews, or a series of interviews. The second interview is out to probe two key areas: 1. Your competency for the position 2. How you will fit in with the company and the staffFor more handy tips for the job hunt, grab your copy of JobStreet Classifinder, out every Sunday with the Philippine Star. | 1. Take along interview essentials, such as pen and paper and your portfolio, which should include copies of your resume, transcript of records, work samples and a list of references. 2. Get a good night sleep on the interview’s eve so you’re fresh and alert on D-day. Eat a good breakfast and take along a small snack to keep you going throughout what might be a long day. 3. Don’t forget the cardinal rules of any interview: Arrive on time, wear proper business attire, and maintain eye contact with the interviewer. And don’t forget to smile! 4. Prep even more for the second interview, which may involve more people (including group or panel interviews), more tricky and in-depth questions...

This may be the first time in the history of books, but here goes: Dedicated to my in-laws* *which does not mean I am henpecked, under her thumb or not man enough PROLOGUE “Why am I referred here? I don’t have a problem,” I said. She didn’t react. Just gestured that I remove my shoes and take the couch. She had an office like any other doctor’s, minus the smells and cold, dangerous instruments. She waited for me to talk more. I hesitated and spoke again. “I’m sure people come here with big, insurmountable problems. Girlfriends dump...

...enforcement activities around the globe. An FBI agent examines a potentially contaminated letter during a white powder training exercise. 2012 The FBI Story I A Message from FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III For the FBI and its partners, 2012 was a year that reminded us once again of the seriousness of the security threats facing our nation. During the year, extremists plotted to attack—unsuccessfully, thanks to the work of our Joint Terrorism Task Forces—the U.S. Capitol, the New York Federal Reserve Bank, and other landmarks on U.S. soil. Tragically, on the 11th anniversary of 9/11, a hateful attack in Benghazi took the lives of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans. In the cyber realm, a rising tide of hackers took electronic aim at global cyber infrastructure, causing untold damages. High-dollar white-collar crimes of all kinds also continued to siphon significant sums from the pocketbooks of consumers. And in Newtown, Connecticut, 20 young children and six adults lost their lives in one of the worst mass shootings in American history, ending a year of violence that saw similar tragedies around the country. Working with its colleagues around the globe, the FBI is committed to taking a leadership role in protecting the nation. As you can see from this book—an annual compilation of stories from the FBI’s public website that provides a snapshot of Bureau milestones, activities, and accomplishments—we used the full range of our intelligence, investigative...
