...The Need for Change: Kotter’s Eight-Step Approach MGT 435 Organizational Change Prof Doug Nelson February 24, 2014 The Need for Change: Kotter’s Eight-Step Approach Change doesn’t come easy in an organization whether it is large or small. The first step in change is identifying the needs so that steps are put in place to implement. As an organization progresses and develops it can be a difficult strategy to perform especially if there are no steps put in place to follow. Developing more efficient ways to introduce and execute change puts less pressure on the associates, and can help internal and external customers adjust to the way of doing business. In this paper I will be identifying the need for change in pipeline/processing management in an organization by using Kotter’s Eight-Step Approach. In the society will live in today change is normal for any business. Alternate initiatives and technology improvements are essential for any organization to stay ahead of their competitors. Many Planned organizational change is a process that moves companies from a present state to a desired future state with the goal of enhancing their effectiveness. Ultimately, the goal of planned organizational change is to improve an organization's capabilities, thus enhancing its value to stakeholders and stockholders (Beer, 1980). Change can fail for many reasons in an organization if not managed correctly. In fact it has been stated that change in an organization fails 70% of the time...

...Task 2 As a starting point the sponsor(s) need to address the following questions Why do we need to change; “To capture the increasing market demand for new generation engines and reduce the business reliance on an old, declining product with a single customer base”. What are we going to change; “Removal of the RB211 overhaul service and withdrawl from component repair activities as a by-product of the RB211” Can the benefits be measured; “Yes the analysis shows that the above would free up enough labour hours to serve the market increase in the desired products. This in turn leads to there being no requirement to reduce headcount as a function of the RB211 removal”. What happens if we don’t move; “ The Wales business will lose the opportunity for growth product gains to other GE shops or competitor businesses, combined with an on-going reliance on a declining product to support a large headcount, effectively threatening the future security of the business”. Identification of change manager(s). This position is pivotal if the initiative is to succeed. Ideally this person will be from the ranks of the senior leadership, carrying both industry and organizational knowledge and respect. Alternatively the company may look to bring an external source from another GE business to oversea and manage the change program. This has previously been used ( including large project teams who led the single site consolidation in 2002 appendix 3) although consideration must be given...

...A Need for Change I go back now and the stores are all empty Except for an old coke sign from 1950 Boarded up like they never existed Or renovated and called historic districts There goes the little man There goes the little man Now they are lined up in a concrete strip You can buy the world with just one trip And save a penny cause it's jumbo size They don't even realize They'er killin' the little man Oh the little man These are the lyrics to Alan Jackson’s song “Little Man”. I think that this song gives a great picture of the way we shop, and how it has changed over time. There used to be specialty stores like a TV shop, hardware store and independently ran car garages, but they are being replaced by mini malls, Wal-Mart’s, and Jiffy Lubes. These “little men” still exist but are hurting. It is close to impossible to compete with the low prices that these chains can offer. In the article “The Store to All Ends” the company Wal-Mart is scrutinized. Why is Wal-Mart so successful? How is it affecting the world? Have you ever heard this? “Wal-Mart is taking over the world!” This statement is a little outlandish, but in all seriousness, maybe it is somewhat true. As the years go on, it seems that companies such as Wal-Mart keep getting bigger and more powerful. With all the corporate greed and global competition to produce goods at the lowest possible price, no one is worried about any of the negative effects that are resulting from it. Along with these businesses...

...NAVY: A NEED FOR CHANGE | | | | | Stephanie Williams | Course-MGT:435/Organizational ChangeInstructor: Gregory WeinkamDate: 1/24/2013 | | Introduction I work for an organization that undergoes constant change in policies on a somewhat daily basis. Our daily routines that were taught throughout boot camp and then later on out in the Naval fleet, is what is instilled in the minds of every sailor nationwide. From our early morning routines including eating in the mess hall to saluting the American flag at morning colors, sailors, like many other individuals in the Armed Forces, are groomed for commitment to the military mission at all times. But, is there a need for change in the military? I enlisted in the United States Navy in 2002 out of Fort Dix, NJ, and was eager to learn the ways and policies of the Armed Forces. I was very obedient throughout boot camp, as in the civilian world, and had no problem with authority and delegation from others. That’s how I knew that the military was the right decision for me after high school. As time went on and I advanced in rank, a newer generation of sailors embarked toward their naval journey, and in about 2007 I noticed a peculiar difference in the way obedience and authority was handled. Newer recruits were becoming more carefree and seemed to ignore the orders of hierarchies and senior subordinates. What has influenced this change? I believe that John Kotter’s eight step approach to organizational change would...

...A Need For Change Within A Project Ronny L. Wade Walden University Abstract In this paper, I will show the type of change approach I took to make a major change within the organization technologically and culturally. As stated by (Schein, E, 2006), “Change and stability are two sides of the same coin”. I believe that communication within and among an organization is driven with the successes and failures of employee management and the employees that will increase the effectiveness of the growth of change within the organization. To perform change more effectively a clear and precise plan of action must be present, to due to the success or failure of the proposed change. A Need For Change Within A Project “THE PRIMARY TASK OF MANAGEMENT is to get people to work together in a systematic way, like an orchestra conductors, managers direct the talents and actions of various payers to produce a desired result” (Christensen, C. M., Marx, M., & Stevenson, H. H., 2006, p. 73). The Situation In this ever changing world of technology, I once conveyed to my company a vision that would bring change in the way we process our product with the development teams and the client. In the vision I expressed that we needed to have a more organized approach to developing our code for the client’s and that we needed a centralized hub where all code is checked in and checked out for the developers. Our company utilized SVN at that time, which did not give the security as GIT would...

Some are not allowed to do something the other is. You have to show them that they are both equal no matter what their gender is. They have to be treated fair. ...Climate change has meant a renewed interest in nuclear power as a means of providing for the world’s energy needs. Discuss the implications for Australia’s mining industry? Australia is the world’s largest coal exporter and has the second largest deposit of coal in the world. Although the world is currently in the throes of a global financial crisis, Australia’s economy one of the few in the developed world to stay afloat has been buoyed considerably by its exports industry, particularly that of coal. Despite Australia’s promise to reduce carbon emissions by 5% in accordance with its commitment to the Kyoto protocol, the coal industry has been lucky enough to avoid almost all penalties that other industries are set to receive under the proposed carbon emission trading scheme . This combined with Australia continuing to stall further international discussions on combating climate change has earned Australia the reputation of “A nation of climate sinners” . It is obvious that despite a lot of rhetoric on the importance of addressing climate change, the Australian government is not willing to commit to solving the global challenge of climate change to an appreciable degree while such a large part of the Australian economy is at stake. For the Australian government to fully commit to its promises on combating climate change, a way to free the Australian economy of its coal dependence needs to be found. The world is in a new era of energy production where it is no longer a question...

Within any organization change is inevitable. By creating a mission and values intent on a changing, dynamic future, a manager is setting the organization up for success. The two main forms of change within management are internal and external. ...Change Management Brenda Macy American InterContinental University December 13, 2015 Abstract The world is an ever changing entity. As a business owner, you will need to keep up with those changes for success within your business. There are 3 areas of change to be considered when changing the organizational culture, the technology, the structure, and the people. Sometimes resistance is met when change is introduced in the workplace. To manage that change, models of change management are introduced to make the transition a smooth process. Two of those models are discussed here. Lewin’s Change Management Model, and Kotter’s 8 Step Change Model (Normandin, 2012). Change Management No matter the size of your business or what kind of business you are in, all businesses have the common element of change. Change can come from the introduction of new technology, new structure within the organization or by the people (Normandin, 2012). The world is changing on a fast track and to succeed in business, organizations must be on the fast track of change as well. Failing to implement a successful change within the organization can cause failure of the business (EditorialBoard, 2011). A psychologist name Kurt Lewin created a change model for understanding organizational change. It is the Unfreeze, Transition, Refreeze change model. In step one, the need for change is recognized and preparing the organization that the change is needed, and effective communication of the...
