The negative feedbacks of drilling in ANWR far outweigh the negative feedbacks from not drilling in ANWR. If drilling initiates in the refuge, particularly along the Coastal Plain, arctic freshwater resources and marine life that reside along that area could be destroyed by potential oil spills and many habitats along the coastline will be greatly affected as well. Another negative outcome from drilling in ANWR would be the construction of oil pipelines stretching from the refuge to the U.S. ANWR is already experiencing effects from climate change and the tundra up there is melting. There are no pipelines traversing a thousand miles of tundra that’s receding due to climate change. You can’t maintain a pipeline in tundra that’s turning to mud
