“The New Literacy” is an article by Clive Thompson addressing people’s concerns about technology affecting the younger generations’ ability to write. The author used several different rhetorical strategies, such as statistics, credible sources and definitions in an attempt to persuade those who are skeptical about technology improving students writing. The first strategy that Thompson used was quoting a credible source, and in this case that source is Andrea Lunsford. “Lunsford is a professor of writing and rhetoric at Stanford University,” wrote Thompson, “Where she has organized a mammoth project called The Stanford Study of Writing to scrutinize college students’ prose.” This citation from the report shows that there is actual research going into whether or not technology does more good than harm in students writing, as well as showing that the author did his research on this topic. …show more content…
