...The Outsiders Book/Movie Comparison S. E. Hinton's story "The Outsiders" is a story the examines two different social groups in high school back in the 1960's. The book was such a big hit around the world that Francis Ford Coppola decided to make a movie out of it. When making the movie Francis didn’t want to leave out the little details that made the movie unique. There are many similarities and many differences between the book and the movie. My goal is to examine those similarities and differences and to look at the meaning behind the small details in the book and in the movie. One of the first similarities between the book and the movie was the 1960's setting. The book and movie both use old cars and the way the characters dress to express the story's 1960 setting. In both the book and movie the Socs drive new Mustangs and Corvairs, but the greasers drive old fixed up cars. "The Outsiders" book and movie both have a blue Mustang that is driven by the Socs. The Mustang represents fear and danger in the Greasers eyes, because whenever they see the Mustang coming they know something bad is about to go down. for his little brother, and that he wants Ponyboy to succeed in life. Another relationship represented in the book and the movie is between Johnny and Dally....

Although in the movie you could see he was short. In the movie Two-bit was shown eating cake. In contrast, him eating cake was not mentioned in the book....

...In the book The Outsiders and the movie have a lot of differences and similarities, one similarity is how Charry and Pony talk about his brothers. These two are very similar but have differences between them that make one just as good as the other one without a doubt in my mind. The book and movie The Outsiders have many similarities one is how no matter what they go to Dally for help to get them out of trouble after stabbing Bob. Another similarities is how when they are in the church instead of only buying food and food only they by a copy of Gone With The Wind and had to eat baloney sandwiches only. Next there is a mention of Paul Newman at the beginning after the movie that pony went to. Both the movie and the book have the part where Pony starts get to know Charry on the way home, right after that Bob, Randy and other socs get out of the car to confront the grocers and get their girls back. It is a book about two rival gangs, the Greasers and Socs, and how each gang member helps each other in order to defeat the rival gang. Inspired from the book, there was a movie directed by Francis Ford Coppola in 1983. While watching the movie, I have noticed a copious amount of similarities and differences between the book and the movie. I noticed a lot of similarities between the book and the movie. For example, the storyline, plot, setting, and conflict were all the same. The book and the movie started with Ponyboy getting jumped and ended with Ponyboy solving all of his problems and coming back to the beginning. The setting of both the book and the movie took place in Oklahoma. ...in the book. We read the book The Outsiders. S.E Hinton was the author. I liked the book very much and we eventually watched the movie. As I was reading the book I did not picture the movie the way it was. I am comparing the movie and book and also making some differences. Some of the main characters in the book are Dally, Ponyboy, Johnny, Two-Bit, Darry, and there is other characters that aren't as important. The narrator in the book is pointing at Ponyboy's point of view. To start off, the characters are very different in the book then they are in the movie. Sodapop was in the book more than he was in the movie. There was blonde kids, (Soda and Dally) in the book but there wasn’t in the movie. Sandy wasn’t even mentioned or in the movie and she took a big part in the book. In the book's point of view the narrator is Ponyboy, and in the movie there isn’t really a narrator it is in every one perspective. In the book two-bit was 6 foot tall...

...the movie Age of Innocence, a movie based Edith Wharton’s book, I found two characters from each to be very similar. Ellen from Age of Innocence and Charity from Summer are very similar in many ways, such as, they are both outsiders in the societies in which they live. Also, they are in secret romances that would be forbidden if ever caught. So throughout this paper I am going to talk about their similarities, and also the few differences they have, and how there societies shape the character they are. First, I am going to touch on the subject that Charity and Ellen both do not fit into their societies, and are considered outsiders. Ellen is in New York City in the 1870’s during this story. During this time era in New York City, the society consisted of wealthy and well respected families, who had special customs and ways of going about things. Ellen being from Europe was not aware of these customs, therefore making her an outsider, because many people looked down on her because she did not act the way that she was suspected to. An example of this would be Ellen was estranged from her husband, and although they were separated, they were still married, so Ellen ran around with a gentleman named Julius who was also married and that was unacceptable in this society. Another example would be that Ellen was talking about getting a divorce from her husband, and that was looked down upon for women to do in that time era. Charity along with Ellen was also considered an outsider. Charity...

...In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton the two characters Dally and Johnny have many differences but many similarities as well. The character Dally is mean and criminal like. While the character Johnny is quiet. ………………………………………………………. The characters Johnny and Dally have many similarities for example both Johnny and Dally have abusive or neglectful parents. Dally’s parents neglect him and don't care where he is or how he is doing. In the book when Johnny was asking if his parents were looking for him after they ran away Dally said “shoot, my old man don’t give a hang if i’m in jail or dead in a car wreck or drunk in the gutter. That don’t bother me none.”(88) in anger questioning why Johnny wants to know if they cared. Similarly Johnny also has neglectful and abusive parents who beat him or yell at him every time he comes home. Ponyboy felt sympathy for Johnny and described “His father was always beating him up, and his mother ignored him, except when she was hacked off at something”(12) but Johnny liked when that happened because it was the only time either of his parents noticed him. Both the...

...ESSAY Matrix Plato Descartes Essay James Brothers Phil 201 ESSAY In this essay I will look at the similarities and differences between the movie, The Matrix, an excerpt from Plato and an excerpt from Descartes. It will be seen that there are many similarities surrounding the prisoner in the Plato excerpt and the Character of Neo in The Matrix. A bit less similarities follows with the excerpt of Descartes however there are some. Let us begin. The prisoner relates to Neo from matrix as the prisoner and Neo both have only one reality about life. The prisoner and Neo have perceived one reality there whole life and don’t know any different and why would they. They similarly are both taken out of current perceived reality and thrown in to a completely different one. This changes everything for them. As Neo is given a choice of a red or blue pill, the red pill will take him out of his current state and the blue keep him in it. When he is confronted for an opportunity for a completely different reality, to find out the truth you could say. One might say who wouldn’t choose that. If someone says I can show you that your reality if not real and show you the truth who would not want to know. The Prisoner’s reality is as Socrates states, “Then in every way such prisoners would deem reality to be nothing else than the shadows of the artificial objects.” 1 Relating this to neo he lives in a world like ours but he feels or something...

...In society today movies are just something people watch for enjoyment but they never take a second and look at the real message behind the movie. Each movie has a different message and anyone can find it. If you fully analyze a film you can learn so much and see how much went in to making the film from the filming to the color and lighting and most importantly editing. As we move into the future and the technology advances I hope that people will look at movies as more than just something to do on a Saturday night and turn it into a learning experience that will last forever. In the filmmaking world there is always that someone that gets looked over and forgotten and that is the person behind the film known as the director. Directors are brilliant people who jobs are to create a film that people will enjoy while putting a meaning behind it. Roberto Benigni is an amazing director who not only directs his movies but writes and stars in them as well. Benigni has created masterpieces such as Life is Beautiful, Pinocchio and his most recent film The Tiger and the Snow, which have brought him such awards as an Oscar for Life is beautiful. Along with being a director Benigni prides himself on being a family man which is why his wife Nicoletta Braschi plays his love interest in most of his movies. Overall Benigni is a great director who blends comedy and romance in most of his movies. His movies might be a little out there but that’s just who Roberto Benigni is and I can’t...
