Choosing the Right Pet for My Child

...Choosing the Right Pet for My Child ENG121 Composition I 6 August 2010 Choosing the Right Pet for My Child Choosing a pet can be a very challenging and difficult process. There are many things to consider before you can really choose the perfect pet. Pet type would be my first consideration. Other things to think about include how frequently the animal will have to visit the vet, whether there is a family member or friends that have pet allergies, and whether you want an animal that is a house pet, or if you want a pet that will stay in a cage or outside. Pet types to be considered are dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, reptiles and small animals like gerbils and hamsters. The most popular pet types are dogs and cats. In any case, choosing a pet should never be taken lightly. When considering a pet type, safety should be a major factor in that decision making process. A dog or a cat would be a perfect pet for my family. Either could easily fit my family’s life-style. Dogs have always been considered man’s best friend. Cats on the other hand are very playful; they are not demanding, they are affectionate and they can be your best friend too. Family interaction with a pet is very important. Dogs have to be walked daily. Many people love to walk their dog. It gives the owner the opportunity to exercise and enjoy it. Cats do not have to be walked. They are self sustaining. That is great for the very busy owner. Dogs come in different sizes. A dog’s size can range...

Cats

...I have heard the old saying that dogs are man’s best friend. I don’t know much about dogs, but I do know a lot about cats. I have had a cat as a pet for at least 30 years. They are wonderful and I know I will always have one in my life. I think cats make the perfect pet because they are self sufficient, intelligent, and good companions. The first reason I think that cats make the perfect pet is because they are self sufficient. Cats can take care of themselves. When we take cats into our homes as pets, they don’t require much attention. Another good example of why cats are self sufficient is because they are clean animals and they bathe themselves quite often. Cats also have a built in deodorizer in their saliva and this deodorizer always makes their fur smell nice and fresh. One more good reason that cats are self sufficient is because they do not have to be let outdoors to go the bathroom. That is because cats almost instinctively know how to use the indoor litter box. All we have to do is show them where the litter box is and they will automatically go to it every time they have to use the bathroom. Another example of how cats are self sufficient is the fact that we don’t have to play with them when they are bored. Cat’s can amuse themselves for endless hours by watching the birds play in the yard or chasing a shadow on the wall. Another reason that cats are self sufficient is because even though indoor cats depend on us for food and water, we can leave a cat alone indoors...

Argumentative Essay On Pitbull

...breed tested by ATTS, after only golden retrievers.” (Joshua Holland) Pit Bulls should still be looked upon positively because they were very famous and well known dogs before the mid 1980s and they also are an excellent choice for a family pet. The Pit Bull is not entirely at fault for the reputation that it has. Because of their tough appearance, these dogs are the top choice for “irresponsible breeders, dog-fighters, people who want a tough looking to tie up in their yard and those who refuse to have their male dogs fixed because they think those big, swinging balls make them look tough by proxy.” (Joshua Holland) These dogs are loyal and loving pets who have just been dragged into a negative crowd. For hundreds of years they were considered the perfect dog. That changed after a while though. “By the 1900s, the Pit Bull...

Do you know anything about it ??? Pet Rocks were originated in California by Gary Dahl. In April 1975, Dahl was in a listening to his friends complain about their pets. This gave him the idea for the perfect "pet": a rock. A rock would not need to be fed, walked, bathed, groomed and would not die, become sick, or be disobedient. He said they were to be the perfect pets, and joked about it with his friends. However, he eventually took the idea seriously, he spent two weeks writing the Pet Rock Training Manual in order to have a happy relationship with your pet rocks. To accompany the book, Dahl decided to actually create a Pet Rock. Feminist, or Not Feminist, That Is the Question...

...A Doll House as a feminist play, the text suggests otherwise. Ibsen writes A Doll House in a way that makes it seem as if he feels men are superior to women by using “pet names,” and other sexual comments. Ibsen uses this form of writing as a way to bring attention to readers that this type of mind set is unacceptable. Although it may seem that Ibsen is discriminating against women he is rather promoting gender equality by illustrating the ridiculousness of this issue by sort of mocking the reality of it. A Doll House is a feminist play because it expresses the importance of equality in both sexes in public and private life and demands the removal of restrictions on females to achieve such equality. One way Torvald attempts to gain control over Nora is the use of nicknames, notably of smaller, inferior animals. These such nicknames include, “Squirrel, silly girl, and skylark.” (857). Nora becomes extremely smart and begins to use Torvald’s use of pet names to her advantage. She sort of teases Torvlad by calling herself his pet and convincing him that she needs him. He loves to feel needed by others because he craves control, especially over Nora, displaying the importance of male dominance in society. Torvald gives Nora practically anything she wants because she appears to acknowledge that she is his “pet.” Although Nora is degrading herself to female inferiority, she...

Rhetorical Analysis

...April 2015 Rhetorical Analysis of Pillow Pets According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (2005), the average child watches about four hours of television a day and sees more than 20,000 commercials each year. "In 2000 alone, U.S. toy companies spent more than $837 million on advertising their products." (Shah, 2010, ). Pillow Pets have been around since 2003 (http://mypillowpets.com/about/), and have steadily built their brand through carefully crafted advertisements which appeal to children of all ages and genders, as well as their parents. "What began with the simple goal of transforming a simple stuffed animal into a functional item for children has grown into an amazing jungle of popular retail and wholesale products." (http:/mypillowpets.com/about/) The widespread allure of the Pillow Pet is the key to its success, as evidenced by their successful internet commercial. It hits all the right notes, including the "Four Ps" of marketing which include product, place, price and promotion. (Calvert, 2008, p. 206) The ad incorporates "production features like lively action and sounds designed to grab a child's attention" (Calvert, 2008) For example, consider the upbeat, female voice used in describing the Pillow Pet. The marketer's message is delivered loud and clear, via a pleasant female voice, possibly of a mother who knows what a child wants and needs, who also understands that parents need justification to buy a pillow pet for their child. "In the U.S., research from...

Research Proposal

...Yvonne Prutilpac English 102-056 Charity Ginerich Research Proposal The topic that I would like to research for the final research paper is the issue of ethics in regards to registering a pet to be a service animal. I am arguing that it is morally acceptable to get your pet registered as a service animal even when there are no known disabilities of the owner. I have some experience with this topic because I have a dog that I recently got registered as a service animal. I have no disabilities but was still able to get him registered by law. This is a very easy task to do and anyone is capable to do so. There are two obvious sides to this argument. One side is that it is morally acceptable for any animal to be able to get certified as a service dog; while the other is that it is wrong and could be disrespectful to get a pet registered when there is no disability. The common ground to this issue is that an animal should be registered as a service animal as long as it is well behaved and causes no harm to people or animals around it. “The term ‘service animals’ describes animals who render assistance of some sort to people with disabilities (Malamud). What if we all have disabilities of some sort? Because I am arguing that it is morally acceptable to get a pet service trained without having a disability, I hope to get my readers to realize that this could benefit people in many ways. Many animals provide services to people every single day even when they are not registered...

Burmese Pythons Research Paper

...I think that people shouldn’t have snakes as pets, because sometimes people don’t think thoroughly about how much of a hassle their pets are going to be. So, when they can’t take care of them or they get too big, they throw them out into the wild. Which can cause the species in the environment to be in great danger. The species in the Everglades are in great danger do to the problem: The Burmese Pythons are on the loose. They are multiplying faster than we can count them, because an average female Burmese Python can lay up to 80-100 eggs. People are probably thinking,” Whoa! That’s a lot of eggs!,” Actually it’s not, because only a few of the eggs survive. But, because the females multiply, they are overpopulating the Everglades. This all...

...Keeping dogs happy, healthy, and well-fed is not an easy task—especially without the help of Natural Balance dog food coupons. Caring for dogs (or any other kind of pet for that matter) is not very different from caring for small children: they do not have the capacity to make good dietary choices for themselves. This makes the pet owner (and the parent) responsible about the dietary needs of both the dog and the child. To be able to fulfill this responsibility, you will need to make sure that you are well informed in the field of nutrition. Gun Dogs Research Paper

...Because their job is simply to keep company, many of these dogs are well behaved and friendly to almost everyone. This makes them an excellent house pet. Guardian dogs, or working dogs, are large and naturally reserved. They are known to keep livestock, families, and valuables guarded. This type of pedigree is wary of strangers, but tightly bonded to their owners, making them a horrible party guest for an active person. Gun dogs, also known as sporting dogs, are extremely active and affectionate. The breeds in this category tend to range from easy going to sharp and intense. For people who can provide exercise and a working program with training, nothing can beat their trust in their owner. Herding dogs are highly intelligent and active.
