Plagiarism Project After the class on November second I decided to ask my professor Courtney Kessel three questions about plagiarism. She is teaching Art class that I am taking this semester. First I asked her what plagiarism is. She said that plagiarism is taking someone else’s idea and belong it to themselves. Plagiarism is not only in writing, but also could be in art like taking a photo or painting from the internet or from anywhere without mentioning the work owner or the source. Second question was how can I avoid plagiarism in writing? She told me that the best way to avoid plagiarism is to think about the topic you want to write about and try to know all your ideas and explain it, and then you might need to search about the topic

Is Plagiarism so Bad?

...Is Plagiarism so Bad? To understand the effect of plagiarism we have to understand what plagiarism is. According to Dictionar.co the definition of plagiarism state as, “an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author.” Plagiarism is an academic misconduct in which students try to avoid thinking and writing. The schools expectations are that students will present their own words, ideas, works, and thoughts resulting from their own understanding. Therefore plagiarism in my opinion is a form of dishonesty and a desire to present other’s idea and to be rewarded as for own work. Three things that result from plagiarizing is that defeats the purpose of writing, defeats the school’s goal of teaching, and is unethical. Plagiarism defeats the purpose of writing. According to Nine Things, “When … substitute someone else’s understanding or expression for your own, you avoid the work of using and improving your own expressive ability.” In other words when students are focus on taking other’s words and use them as their own, the process of writing is forestall. The main purpose of writing is to learn and develop the ability of writing skills about something. The schools ask students for such activities just to develop their ability to express themselves. A student may choose the easiest way to finish a project but will not...

Plagiarism

...draft# 2 Aug., 9th, 2012 -What is acceptable and non-acceptable plagiarism? What Does the Society Accept from Plagiarism? "It is always better not to have your work done than to plagiarize!” my biology teacher said. Plagiarism is a really big issue that people cannot stop arguing about it. Some people accept it and another does not. Plagiarism is as different as cultures. Everyone has different opinion about it. Generally, there is acceptable and non-acceptable plagiarism.  On one hand, acceptable plagiarism is where some people take other people's ideas and develop them to benefit society. One example is spreading the ideas education. It is totally okay to learn from the generations before us and use that knowledge to create new things to develop our world. As what the scientists do. They take their knowledge from the scientists for them to discover new things and develop their discoveries. Another example is learning the cultures and customs from the past generations. If there was not a cultural plagiarism between generations, there would not be different cultures and customs and all countries would be the same. According to Plagiarism and the Flow of Ideas." education is defined as process by which society deliberately transmits it accumulated knowledge, skills, customs and values from one generation to the next, according to Wikipedia. Therefore, education is could be considered a form of plagiarism"_(Wittaker, 2012, paragraph_3" What she means is that educating and...

Academic Plagiarism

...By definition, plagiarism is the act of presenting the words, ideas, images, sounds, or other creative expression of others as your own. If you have included the words and ideas of others in your work that you neglected to cite, or you have had help you wouldn’t want your teacher to know about, you have plagiarized. There are two types of plagiarism, intentional and unintentional plagiarism. Intentional  Copying a friend’s work  Buying or borrowing papers  Cutting and pasting blocks of text from electronic sources without documenting  Media “borrowing”  Uninformed Web publishing Unintentional  Careless paraphrasing  Poor documentation  Quoting excessively  Failure to use your own “voice” Collaboration is when you work with one or more people on a task assigned in class. It is plagiarism if all members of the group have the exact same answers. If you do not credit your group members on your assignment, then your paper is considered plagiarized. You can answer the questions together, but understand that not everyone writes or words things the same, so add your own personal flare to the work! Students should be aware that Academic Integrity is of great importance at Chandler High School. Each violation of Academic Integrity will result in escalating disciplinary action as outlined below: Violations of Academic Integrity = Cheating, Plagiarism, and Academic Dishonesty including, but not limited to:  Copying or sharing questions or answers...

Understanding Plagiarism

...Part III: Understanding Plagiarism Background: According to a 2002 survey by UConn's Department of English: Freshmen Writing Program: Nearly 30% of responding students admitted to having knowingly plagiarized at least once. Nearly 43% of responding students admitted to unknowingly plagiarizing at least once. It is because of this, that the FYE program designed the following assignment in an effort to introduce students to the concept of academic integrity, specifically, what is plagiarism, how is it defined here at UConn, and how you can avoid accidentally plagiarizing. The goals and objectives specifically for this assignment are to 1) develop a direct awareness of plagiarism and its responses, 2) continue to cultivate research skills, 3) increase participation and skills in leading class discussions, and 4) continue to develop critical analysis of written work. Steps for Success: 1. Pre-Test: Log into HuskyCT and take the plagiarism self-evaluation pre-test. 2. Initial Research: Investigate and read resources found on the Internet - both UConn specific (Plagiarism Resources http://www.lib.uconn.edu/instruction/PlagFac.htm , Freshman English Module http://irc.uconn.edu/PlagiarismModule/intro_m.htm ) and beyond (Talking About Plagiarism http://bedfordstmartins.com/catalog/static/bsm/technotes/workshops/talkingplagy.htm , Plagiarism & The Web http://www.wiu.edu/users/mfbhl/wiu/plagiarism.htm , Plagiarism: What it is and How to Recognize and Avoid it http://www.indiana.edu/~wts/pamphlets/plagiarism...
