...threat, however, stress can elicit feelings of helplessness and a foreboding sense of loss. A critical issue concerning stress among students is its effect on learning. The Yerkes-Dodson law (1908) postulates that individuals under low and high stress learn the least and that those under moderate stress learn the most. A field study and laboratory tests support the notion that excessive stress is harmful to students' performance. Mechanisms that explain why students perform badly under stress include "hypervigilance" (excessive alertness to a stressful situation resulting in panic--for example, over studying for an exam) and "premature closure" (quickly choosing a solution to end a stressful situation--for example, rushing through an exam). WHAT IS STRESSFUL FOR UNDERGRADUATES? Students react to college in a variety of ways. For some students, college is stressful because it is an abrupt change from high school. For others, separation from home is a source of stress. Although some stress is necessary for personal growth to occur, the amount of stress can overwhelm a student and affect the ability to cope. Since World War II, changes in American higher education include growth in the size and...

...Perusing a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry was not at the forefront of my list of things to do when I grew up, actually attending college was not on my list of things to do either but I am here now. You see while I was in high school my mother moved me around so much that I eventually attended three different high schools and dropped out during my last semester. I had moved around so much that I didn't really fit in having started a new school the last semester of senior year. Why didn't I tough it out? Well, I had no idea how to pay for college, I didn't think I was smart enough for college and didn't have anyone to help guide me or support me. So I went to a technical college and earned a certificate in Phlebotomy, and worked in hospitals and blood...

...A Veterinarian is defined as “a person trained in the medical treatment of animals” (“veterinarian Definition in the Cambridge English Dictionary"). Today, an estimation of 80,000 people work in this occupation. In fact, theses numbers will be increasing in the near future because the job outlook of this career is deemed excellent (McKay, Dawn Rosenburg). The history of veterinarians and the job itself are both very complex and interesting. Veterinarians generally tend to the healthcare needs of animals such as pets, livestock, and zoo animals. The vet field consists of a number of areas one could specialize in. One field is food safety and inspection, and these vets check livestock for illness and making sure they’re healthy. Another specialty...

The predictor variables of the study were GPA, pre-review grade, and the subject clusters of the exam. The study covered periods 2007-2011. It was noted that the performance of the Accounting Education for the period covered was found to be impressive. Pre-review and the GPA have high statistical influence in passing the board exam. The threshold GPA is 2.2 while 2.4 for the prereview. Of the subject clusters in the board exam, accounting problems have the highest impact in the actual board score followed by theory of accounts, management services, practical accounting problems 2, practical accounting problems 1 and the least yet still bear impact is the business law and taxation. The collegiate validation exam used as indicator of readiness showed statistical association with the actual exam. A simulated model revealed that the scores of management and services, auditing problems, audit theory, business law and taxation and accounting problems 1 have strong board outcome effects. The theory of accounts and accounting problems 2 showed no statistical significance. Keywords: Accounting education, intervention measures, maximum likelihood ...

...Reasons Students Drop out of College English 100, November 21, 2011 For most people finishing college is a challenge while for others it’s quite easy. There are many reasons why people throughout the United States are unable to graduate from college (See elearners). The reason for this is because some of them have to work, financial constraints, and some just have many family issues. Having to work and go to school can negatively affect your studies. Some students have a hard time juggling stuff while attending college. Some students live alone so they have to pay for their living expenses while trying to attend school. Due to working and going to school they begin to fall behind in their assignments and classes. Not only do they fall behind in school but they do not get enough sleep, which is essential for a student who works and studies. Many studies show that the amount of students that are dropping out of college this year due to work has increased more and more throughout each passing year (See GoCollege). Some students even drop out because with work and school they cannot find time for themselves with such a busy schedule. With so social time students tend to become stressed out which negatively affects their progress in school. Because of all this eventually most students feel like because of school they have no time to relax themselves after a long day/night of work so they start to shy away...
