“THE PRODIGAL SON Luke 15:11-32

In the New Testament, there is a parable entitled “the lost son”. In this passage we begin to learn and understand the compassion and care that the Father feels for us, his sheep. We also get insight on the awakening that happens with the son. The parable of “the lost son” was written in the book of Luke. Although we don’t officially know who wrote this book it is believed to have been written by Luke which was a friend and close follower of Paul. The book of Luke gives us different details on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Included are numerous places he traveled and parables he used in which to get a lesson learned. It is also believed that Luke was written in the latter part of the first century, somewhere around Ephesus or Smyrna. This is important because it allows us to know the culture and geographical location in which Luke may have been influenced by in his writings and or interpretations of the teachings. There are a couple of words that are significant in this particular passage. These are lost and found. The denotation of the word lost is no longer in possession of; or the one I like to use is beyond reach, communication, or influence. This is important because it makes us aware of the state in which his son had been in for the last few years. The other is found, and its meaning is to bring into being, set up or awareness that was made. It starts off to say that there was a younger son who seemed to be a little anxious and didn’t necessary want to wait for what was coming to him he seem to want his reward right away. I’m sure we can somewhat relate to this. I feel that we as people often times want to dictate the timeline in which we want events to happen and when they don’t seem to happen like that for us then we just cash out if you will or give up. Not having the patience to wait and possibly enjoy the full reward that may have been given. There is also a great example here of sometimes what happens, even though undeserving blessings are given to us, and for numerous reasons we find a way to squander it all away. In our squandering this I would have to say would be our lost period, because we have lost communication and connection to the source of the blessings which takes you out of line to receive more. Then the picture of God the Father comes into play. Once we his children, or the son here, comes to the realization that he is lost and out of connection comes back to his father with repentance in his heart it is showed to us the extent of his grace and mercy and the forgiveness he has for his children. Although the thought or mind frame of the son was if I could just get some leftovers from my father’s servants I would have more than I have now, his father’s mind frame was not only to receive his son back but to make him feel more welcome than when he left. This today is how God the Father feels about us, although he knows that we are undeserving he bestows upon us blessings thoroughly, and knowing as well that we won’t all the time do exactly what is expected of us, he is always waiting with open arms to receive you back into good standings with him, forgive your transgressions and bless you even more than when you messed up. If there was an example that we could follow from this passage I feel it would first be, since we should thrive to be in Gods image we should first start with trying to be as forgiven as possible in all situations. And secondly although it’s not great to get lost or caught more so up with the things that are going on around you that you lose communication or connection with your father, it is much worse to stay that way.

In my life I feel that I sometimes get lost daily, with the cares and frustrations of life in general, but I because I have an understanding of this passage I know that once I come to the realization of my mistake or short coming that he is right there waiting to accept me back into his arms and get me back on track. In closing I pray that we can all take something away from this great parable, whether it is working on forgiveness as his brother needed to and his father did, or just realizing that we may all become lost in our own ways, but there is direction and clarity in your heavenly father and finding that path.

Analyzing “the Parable of the Prodigal Son”

...Analyzing “The Parable of the Prodigal Son” “The Parable of the Prodigal Son” is a well-known story from the Bible, of a disobedient son's return home and his father accepting him back. The father’s older son on the other hand feels differently about his brother’s return. The father then tries to convey to the older son on how he should forgive and that the younger son is still part of the family. This story shows how even when a person sins, as long as you return to the lord he will always forgive you and welcome you into heaven. In the beginning of the parable, the younger son says to his father to give him the inheritance that is to be left to him, this tells us that the family is probably rich. In today's world, the father probably wouldn't give his son his inheritance when he said he wanted to leave. Also if the son was to try to come back, I doubt that the father would even let the son back into the house. Today, if you disrespect your parent like he did a lot of the time your parents will disown you. When the prodigal son went off on his own he started to wander the earth and spent his entire inheritance. After he spent everything that he had, he needed to get a job. He ended up feeding pigs, the absolute worst job you could have at the time. Pigs, at the time, were the lowest of the low, so being the one that tends to them and feeds them, really puts into perspective on just how much he hit rock bottom. He even went so low as to consider actually eating the food...

On the Night of Your Birth

...On the Night You Were Born II Kings 17:6-14 and Luke 15:17-24 Rev. Dr. Zina Jacque August 29, 2010 Beloved of God, do you know, have you ever wondered what happened on the night you were born. My family story holds that somewhere around the end of August in 1956 Dr. E.L.C. Broomes told my Mother not to get her hopes too high. After all, this was her fifth pregnancy, and though she had finally moved beyond the 30 week mark, she still had many weeks to go and she should not get her hopes too high. There was no guarantee this baby would make it. But then, on the evening of October 30th, sometime after dinner, something within my mother moved, something within her said, it is time and all the world stood still for my parents, all of the world held its breath. I do not know what thoughts ran through my mother’s mind or my father’s heart in those hours before I was born; but I know once I had arrived, once they held me in their arms, they began to rejoice. Nancy Tillman, in her book On the Night You Were Born, gives voice to the rhythm of words that might have been spoken on night you and I were born:1 On the night you were born the moon smiled with wonder. The stars peeked in to see you, all safe and tucked under And the night wind whispered and called you by name And said with a sigh, life will never be the same So enchanted with you were the wind and the rain They too whispered the sound of your wonderful name. Your name sailed past houses, high on the breeze Over oceans and mountains...

Theology

...“Ang Lumang Paintbrush” is a well-known short film by artist Joey Velasco. “Ang Lumang Paintbrush” talks about how he, with a very old paintbrush, maximized his talents for the Lord. The artist is in search for the perfect man to paint for his painting, a remake of the famous painting “The Return of the Prodigal Son”. In the short story, the man, Mang Crispin, whom Joey Velasco has chosen was a bit cold towards him and Joey indeed had a very hard time putting up with Mang Crispin. One day, the Mang Crispin suddenly got sick, so Joey had to rush him to the hospital wherein several revelations surfaced. The doctor who took care of the Mang Crispin turned out to be his own grandson. To cut things short, it was a short mini reunion for both Mang Crispin and his grandson. What struck me the most about it is the fact that yes, the things God have provided for us may be old and useless already, but it is honestly up to us whether or not we maximize them. Here, the old paintbrush may be old and may seem useless already, but it yielded into something amazing, the painting. That old paintbrush made me realize that we all have a purpose in this world. God called us all for a purpose. We should never think that we do not have a purpose in this world, because indeed, we all have. I believe that God causes all things to happen for a reason. We may not know yet now what or why, but in His due time indeed, we are bound to know more about what He has in store for all of us. My life is a tough...

...and there was a gathering of “church folks and relatives talking after the big Sunday dinner.” The suffering of African Americans is referred to by, “The darkness outside is what the old folks have been talking about. It’s what they’ve come from. It’s what they endure.” One can draw from this the gloom, despair, and hardships that have marked their lives. It is further brought home by the final sentence in the paragraph, “….because if he knows too much about what’s happening to them, he’ll know too much too soon, about what’s going to happen to him.” Before becoming a writer, Baldwin was a preacher and in his story “Sonny’s Blues”, there is a hint of that. The biblical stories of Cain and Able from Genesis and Luke’s parable of the Prodigal Son seem...

Buddhist Parable Of The Prodigal Son Essay

...There were many differences I saw between the Buddhist Parable of the Prodigal Son and the Christian Parable of the Prodigal Son in terms of how the story is told and the message. To begin, a difference I saw in the Buddhist Parable of the Prodigal Son is that there is only one son as compared to two of no younger and no older just one son. Second, another difference I saw is that the son does not ask for his inheritance. Adding on to this the father has to find ways in how to make son feel closer to him and accept the inheritance he will soon receive. Third, when the son returns to the house of his father he does not ask for forgiveness as in the Christian Parable of the Prodigal Son to he wants to be let free from the messengers to he leaves when given the way to leave....

Frugality

...Introduction: Some people earn money. But they do not know how to spend it judiciously. Some of them squander away the money. They are called prodigal or spendthrift people. For this they suffer a lot in their life. They cannot get money at the time of need. They cannot give their sons education. They cannot give their daughters in marriage. They run into debts. They lose all and at last they are on the street. How to be frugal: Frugality means to spend the earning judiciously. There is a saying “Cut your coat according to your cloth”. So, our expenditure must not go beyond the amount of income. Also our expenditure must not cover all our income. Because we will have to save a good amount against any unforeseen situation. In future, we will have to give our daughters in marriage. Our sons may fall seriously ill. Our members may grow and we may have to build more houses. We may have to face litigation set by our enemies. For all these we must have to save a good amount of money for our day to day income. So, we will have to spend our money judiciously in order to make a saving out of it. For this we will have to prepare a monthly budget for ourselves. Frugality does not mean miserliness. Frugality is a virtue. But miserliness is a vice. Miserliness means the psychology of all income and no expenditure. Frugality means a sense of proportion. Advantage of frugality: Frugality has got a lot of advantages for us. A frugal person never runs into debt. He enumerates his most essential...
