As a black woman, there is always a constant push and pull that is occurring. As a member of two oppressed groups, black women are often forced to choose which part of their oppression they fit in with best – are you black or are you a woman? In the feminist movement, the target issues are applicable primarily to white women. The issues that women face when they are black as well are all too often marginalized. Within the black community, the issues are focused principally on black men who fail to recognize black women as women, not just as black. This often leads to black women falling between the cracks.
