Yes carrying a gun is her only choice because in her story about the woman who had called on a cb and got a rapist. She was also in a camp where she could not have mace. A gun would also be good because it is an amendment and that cannot be taken away as quickly as a non-amendment. Guns are also a good investment they will always be worth something. Such as with President Bill Clinton with the ar-15 ban the price of ar-15s skyrocketed and have yet to come down. They are also easy to find ammunition for because I can go with my uncle to a place 30 miles from my house and buy ammo for all of my guns and for good prices to. A box of 9mm ammo is 1$ for hollow point ammo and .50$ for a regular bullet per bullet. Bearing arms is the Christian thing

Gun Control Debate

...Gun Control Debate By Mary Dyke, Lindsey Kjer, Stuart Moneymaker, Christina Marquez and Josh Marr BCOM/275 April 15, 2013 Gun Control Debate Gun control is a heated topic for debate right now in the United States. Many people are pro-gun control while others are against it. One fact is: “The Second Amendment only restricts the federal and state governments from imposing gun control that would completely deprive citizens of the right to defend their homes and their right to take part in defending their liberties as members of a national militia” (Charles, 2013). There is always some level of gun control. It can rise of course, but they cannot be taken away to their entirety. There are many pros to debate as well as cons. As gun control is discussed, we will come across ethical, moral, and legal issues. The Pros of Gun Control Do we not have enough gun violence occurring in today’s society that we feel the need to grant Americans permission to bear arms? Regulation of guns is a necessary action that needs to be taken in order to save lives.  Gun control is an effort to stop the rise in violent crime by strengthening laws on the ownership of firearms. “According to studies, 54 percent of Americans say stricter laws would reduce the number of deaths caused by mass shootings.” Terrorism, schools shootings and other modern circumstances cannot be prevented all together; however stricter gun laws will limit the access to firearms and decrease the rate of deaths. Many...

This is a web document in which the authors cover pure statistics and facts. Graphs, tables, quotes, and statistics are all that this piece contains. This resource is useful since it was updated a little more than a year ago with the most recent data and continues to be updated as new stats and facts become available. It is also neutral in nature, giving just the facts and referencing both the affirmative and negative sides of the argument. 2. This article is helpful because it outlines the concealed carry laws in Utah schools, a state which has closely modeled it’s laws after Colorado’s. ...& Business Ethics Gun Control vs. Gun Violence The debate over gun control in the United States has been a topic of controversy over the years. In particular, the killing of twenty schoolchildren in Newtown, Connecticut. In December 2012 this mass shooting fueled a national discussion over gun laws. However, compromise legislation would have banned semiautomatic assault weapons and expanded background checks was defeated in the senate in 2013, despite extensive public support. Arguments for more restrictive gun laws http://gun.laws.com/gun-rights/gun-control-versus-gun-rights As society continues to diversify and human beings become more individualistic, we drift further apart from understanding each other. The gun control debate is not directly effected by this, but psychologically human beings fear what we don't understand. In a society with hundreds of cultures, differences and arguments can arise out of nothing. Words are one thing but the use of firearms is an entirely different topic. With less restrictive laws on purchasing and ownership a seemingly pointless feud could intensify into murder. Guns give a man power, with power inevitably comes abuse. There is a high rate of gun-related violence http://gun.laws.com/gun-rights/gun-control-versus-gun-rights The United States leads the world in gun violence and ownership. There is a direct correlation. This is perhaps the most obvious argument made in the gun control debate-guns kill people, most of...

Zero Tolerance Policy

...Does School Violence Warrant a Zero-Tolerance Policy? While violence is becoming a common occurrence in many schools across the country, we must ask, does violence deserve a zero-tolerance policy? Studies have shown that there are many positives and negatives to having the zero-tolerance policies in schools today. The amount of violence in schools has continued to rise in recent years and this has led to people wanting a way to change it. Are zero-tolerance policies the way to do it? Studies have shown pros and cons to the policies. Zero-tolerance policies have specific consequences for each action that a student might commit (Rice). This allows the school to treat all of the students fairly. Every student will be punished to the same...

Gun Control

...Gun Control Brian McMahon 02/02/2014 PH103 Informal Logic Colette Jung   Gun control has been a controversial topic for quite awhile. The United states has set some gun restrictions in place already, and is trying to place more. Even though some gun laws can prevent people from being killed, they are not legitimate because they do not stop criminals from committing crimes, instead they restrict law abiding citizens and they violate the 2nd amendment. More gun restrictions will not solve the current issues at hand, however gun education could be affective in educating the public Gun Control laws make no differentiation between criminals and law abiding citizens. The purpose of gun control is to limit access to criminals getting a hold on weapons. "The ATF found that 'a small group of dealers accounts for a disproportionately large number of crime gun traces.' More than 85 percent of dealers in the U.S. had no crime guns traced to them at all in 1998, while about 1 percent of licensed firearm dealers accounted for 57 percent of traces that same year." Parnell, William (2009). Clearly that 1 percent is breaking several laws when it accounts for 57 percent of all gun crimes traced by the ATF. After the events happened at Virginia Tech Congress created the "NICS Improvement Act," which includes "provisions that encourage states, as a condition of federal funding, to update and make available disqualifying records on persons to be 'mentally defective' and convicted of misdemeanor...

Gun Violence Pros And Cons

...“Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” This quote has a whole new meaning since the law giving Illinois Residents the option to carry a weapon on their persons passed last year. Gun violence in our society has increased rapidly over the past couple of years. Many people would argue that the newly signed laws regarding residents being able to carry a concealed weapon contribute to that increase. Guns are not meant to be used as toys for individuals but yet so many people abuse the privilege of owning a gun. It takes true knowledge to maneuver a gun correctly and responsibly. This may be a touchy subject for some, but how many people actually have taken the time to think about the pros and cons of the conceal and carry a weapon law? When...

Gun Control and Our Freedom

...Gun Control or Our Freedom Jill Sanders ENG/215 January 28, 2013 Sophia Hsia Gun Control or Our Freedom The pros and cons of gun control has been a debate over the years brings several issues to light. The myth of the Second Amendment is merely a reasoning clause for the right to bear arms, and people have the right to bear arms for their own personal use. The truth of the Second Amendment is “A well- regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free state ” (www.guninformation.org/freedom.html). The legislative proposals are trying to restrict the availability of firearms to the public raise several questions. What restrictions on firearms are truly permissible under our Constitution? Does gun control constitute crime? Will the nation’s crime rates decrease with stricter regulation put on gun ownership? Last but not least would it hinder or impair the means of self-defense of citizens? (Krouse, March 2005) “First it is important to realize that the right to live is a very important right and a freedom”. If more gun control means lives saved then more gun control should mean more freedom. “The government has an obligation to protect the people’s rights such as the right to live. So the government has an obligation to place more restrictions on individual gun ownership. Do you as an American agree to the government is infringing on your rights?” We are going to explore the choices we have as citizens of the United States (www.guninformation.org/freedom...

Research Topics

...I will discuss three topics that I have an interest in writing about for this English class. The first topic that I have chosen is to critique is “Should citizens be allowed to carry a concealed weapon to their work place”. The reason that I have chosen this topic is because I am against guns and carrying them to work should not legal. I think that it is okay for people to own guns when it is for hunting purposes and I do understand that people need to protect their house-holds, but the bad outweighs the good in my opinion. The audience for this paper would be law makers, and fellow citizens who agree and disagree with me. My thesis statement for the paper would be guns are weapons that people who are not properly trained to use them should already not be able to own them, so these same people should not be able to take them to their place of employment. The second topic that I am interested in writing about is “Should children of parents who do not allow them to be vaccinated be allowed to attend public school”. The reason that I have chosen this topic is because I would like to research the topic and form an opinion because I currently do not know enough of the pros and cons of being vaccinated. My primary audience would be the school boards and parents of children who attend public schools. I think my thesis statement would be something along the lines of “Are vaccinations really necessary in order for your child to be enrolled in public school”. I think that...

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Mass Shootings

...is an incident involving multiple victims of gun violence(“Gun Control Pros and Cons”). The Columbine Massacre was one of these mass shootings. It occurred on April 20, 1999 in Littleton, Colorado by two high school boys. They chose to do this because they were bullied in high school. This incident left fifteen people dead and twenty-four people injured. The guns used during the shooting were illegally acquired. This is just one significant example of a mass shooting in the United States. Gun laws for possession, carrying, acquiring, buying, selling, and distributing will vary from state to state, some may be broader or more limited to existing Federal Gun Laws. Firearm Licensees are subject to the Gun Laws of the state where they are in rather than the state where the firearm permit was issued. In Pennsylvania there is no permit or registration to buy or own a gun. Known as the "gun show loophole,"...

The Pros And Cons Of Open Carry

...I think the open carry law should be allowed because if you are carrying a handgun, somebody attacks you, and you shoot them then you are stopping crime at its peek. The open carry law of Texas states that you are allowed carry any handgun as long as you have a license, but the handgun must be carried in a shoulder or belt holster, and you must be 21 years of age or older to get a license. This means handguns will be in the hands of an adult, and not a kid which is one good thing. Another good thing about the open carry law of Texas is that if someone sees that a store is getting robbed then that person can stop the robber with his handgun from stealing from the store. That way the other people that was in the store is safe from the robber,...

Concealed Carry on Campus

...Campus: Yea or Nay? 2 Abstract This essay debates the pros and cons of allowing concealed carry weapons on campuses. Both sides have relevant information that supports their point of view. I have presented data from both sides of this issue and leave it to the reader to decide which argument they will support.   Concealed Carry on Campus: Yea or Nay? 3 In the war over guns, the first casualty was the truth (Kleck, 2009). Could the results of the tragedies at Columbine, Virginia Tech, and the private college in California been lessened if concealed weapons were permitted on campuses? Studies have been conducted, but there have been no definitive results. Each side of this question can quote statistics and studies that will prove their point of view. There is no absolute answer to this question, but many people believe that the outcome may have been much different if concealed weapons were present on campus. As with every issue of this magnitude, there are two sides to this question. The debate about whether to allow concealed weapons on campus raises questions of personal safety, legality and are gun-free zones really safer. Students for Concealed Carry is a nationwide organization made up of over 43,000 students, professors and professionals fighting for the legal right to carry concealed weapons on campuses. The members of SCCC want to dispel the myths about carrying concealed weapons on campus. They also want state legislators and...

Guns in Schools

...Guns in Schools With the number of mass school shootings and incidents of violence in schools that have been reported since April 20, 1999; the public is crying out for stricter laws to help protect our children. In direct response to the Columbine High School shooting, schools across the country adopted a variety of “safety” measures that included mandatory uniforms to prevent the wearing of gang colors and allowing faculty to more readily identify intruders, installation of metal detectors and security cameras, ID badges to be worn at all times, and the increased presence of armed guards on campuses. While these measures are all intended to protect our children the fact that we are still experiencing violence in our schools say that these measures are not enough. While metal detectors and armed guards in our schools are a step in the right direction, not all school districts can afford to employ them. Palmer ISD, in Palmer, Texas, with its school population of 1,100 students is approaching this dilemma by allowing a select few teachers and staff to be trained and cleared to carry concealed weapons. Only Kevin Noack, school superintendent, and the local Police Department will know who is carrying. (pp3) This policy will go into effect as early as this coming school year. With children being our greatest hope for the future, I support training and arming our teachers to protect this precious resource. Schools are generally viewed by terrorists...

Gun Control, an Idea Whose Time Has Come

...Gun Control, An Idea That’s Time Has Come As a Criminal Justice student I lean toward the gun control side of the current debate. In his Federalist Papers James Madison said, “Americans have the right and advantage of being armed – unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms” (Raymond). Madison may be right about our citizens having more rights than those in other countries, but our government places too much trust in the American people. If you take away privately owned guns, it does not solve anything because doing so would consequentially create a communist or police state. Instead of taking away the guns, a better solution is to control who buys guns and for what purpose they should be used. Opponents of gun control may say that a seven-day waiting period before being able to buy a gun does nothing to help fight or prevent crime or to save lives, it is needed to keep more people from dying, to keep people from being robbed, and to keep guns out of the hands of known criminals. There are over 283 million licensed guns in the U.S. (Herbert 1), and that does not include unregistered and illegal weapons that people own, sell to and buy from unlicensed or criminal sources. The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution grants Americans the right to “bear arms,” but when they kill innocent people or even themselves, should all Americans have that right? More than 50% of U.S. homes own one or more guns (White 1). The question...
