The Red Spread
The rise of communism is the rise of an ideal only rivaled by Hitler and his Nazi regime. 1917, World War I was coming to a close; the Russian people were starving and war-weary. The rising casualties from war or hunger led to the overthrowing of the tsar monarchy; and establishment of a temporary Provisional Government. Most sources blame the Provisional Government for the spread of communism in Russia; this is not the case however, because the Petrograd Soviet must also bear some burden. The Petrograd Soviet had power during that time along with the Provisional Government.
While in the United States communism is seen as worse than death; communism for Lenin and the Russian people was a way out from "Europe’s capitalist system …show more content…
Brilliantly successful, the November Revolution ended the Provisional Government"("Alexander Kerensky"). The Provisional Government was set up after the fall and deaths of the tsar monarchy. With that in mind none of the blame targets gain from communist spread, however they are responsible for setting up a clear path for Lenin to rise up.
The tsar monarchy, Rasputin, the Provisional Government, the Petrograd
Soviet: these four are the usual scape goats for the predicament Russia is in by WWII, by instigating instability and distrust among the people. The main culprit blamed by most is the Provisional Government. They "did nothing to solve the land problem" and "did nothing to stop the war" ("Provisional Government and its Problems 2") by not making major reforms or solving any problems they inadvertently promoted Lenin to rise.
However, the one group most to blame for Lenin's revolution is the Petrograd Soviet. The Provisional Government "had to share power with the Petrograd Soviet"("Provisional Government and its Problems"). Sharing power with the Petrograd Soviet did not allow the Provisional Government to do its job, "Members of the [Petrograd] Soviet always rejected the Provisional Government"("Provisional Government and its Problems"). By sharing power and being denied the ability to help the Provisional Government was doomed from the

Red imported fire ants, or Solenopsis invicta Buren, is native to Mato Grasso, Brazil and other areas throughout central South America and was accidentally brought to Mobile, Alabama in the early 1940s. Although the method of introduction is not clear, the USDA states that it is possible that the species may have arrived in the United States on ships’ ballasts. Since their initial invasion in the 1940s, the species has spread throughout fourteen states. Tasmanian Devil

...Taz and Ant; One Endangered, One Invasive Taylor Drake Biology 106A, Fall 2012 In a world dominated by humans there are many things that also inhabit Earth, one of those being animals. Sometimes these animals can thrive in certain or multiple geographical areas while others, due to humans, may fail to adapt and survive. An invasive species is one that has a native geographical range but then somehow gets transferred to a new geographical range where it possibly can thrive and cause problems such as the Red Imported Fire Ant. On the other hand, there are some species of animals that are endangered and on the brink of extinction like the Tasmanian devil. With the encroachment of humans on the animal’s environment, they have hindered their ability to thrive forcing them to become endangered. Humans influence on the ecosystem, animals have to adapt like the Red Fire Ant or be forced to near or possible extinction like the Tasmanian devil. 1 The Tasmanian devil (Figure 1), Sarcophilus harrisii, is the largest carnivorous marsupial of the family Dasyuridae found on the Australian island of Tasmania (Figure 2) (Tasmanian devil). The devil is normally black with a white patch around its neck and generally about the size of a small dog weighing between fifteen and twenty Figure 1. These organisms spread throughout the body by coming in contact with the infected person. Bacteria * Fungi * Protozoa * Viruses Disease in which vectors are responsible * Mosquitoes are examples of vectors;they spread yellow fever * Flies are examples of vectors and they spread gastroenteritis. * Rats are examples of vectors and they spread leptospirosis * Zip Zip Lice is also an example of a vector they spread Rickettsia. How biological vectors are responsible for Malaria The natural ecology of malaria involves malaria parasites infecting successively two types of hosts: humans and female Anopheles mosquitoes. In humans, the parasites grow and multiply first in the liver cells and then in the red cells of the blood. In the blood, successive broods of parasites grow inside the red cells and destroy them, releasing daughter parasites ("merozoites") that continue the cycle by invading other red cells. The blood stage parasites are those that cause the symptoms of malaria. When certain forms of blood stage parasites ("gametocytes") are picked up by a female Anopheles mosquito during a blood meal, they start another, different cycle of growth and multiplication in the mosquito. After 10-18 days, the parasites are found...

Unit 2 Assignment 2: Microsoft Envirnment Analysis

...named Code Red was observed on the internet on July 13, 2001. Computers running Microsoft IIS web server were attacked with this worm. Code Red worm did not infect the largest amount of computers until July 19, 2001 with 359,000 hosts being infected. The worm would spread itself in a vulnerability known as a buffer overflow. It would do this by using a long string of the repetition of the letter “N” to overflow a buffer. Spida worm infects via Microsoft SQL installations with administrator accounts that have no passwords defined. Microsoft recommends the “sa” account be set upon installation but many servers are not properly secured after installation. The main purpose of the Spida worm is to export an infected server’s Sam password database. SQL Slammer worm caused a denial of service on Internet host and slowed down general internet traffic. On January 25, 2003 it spread rapidly and infected 75,000 victims in ten minutes. The worm exploited the buffer overflow and would generate random IP addresses, send itself out to those addresses. If one of those addresses happens to belong to a host that is running an unpatched copy of Microsoft SQL Server Resolution Service, the host becomes infected and sprays the Internet with more copies of the worm. Lovesan worm A.K.A. MSBlast or Blaster Worm was a worm that spread to computers running Microsoft operating systems Windows XP and Windows 2000. The worm spread using a buffer overflow. History

...How far do you agree that the origins of the Cold War were mainly due to Stalin´s foreign policy of expansionism? Soviet actions after 1945 were seen in the West as part of a concerned attempt to expand the communist world. The collapse of Nazi Germany in 1945 had left a power vacuum in large part of central and Eastern Europe which Stalin, using the presence of the Red Army, took advantage of in order to strengthen the position of the USSR and spread communism. When looking at the events of the early years of the Cold War there would seem to be much evidence to support this. Development of the Cold War, in the five years between 1945 and 1950, could be argued as taking place for a number of reasons and due to various individuals. It could be easy to simply site Stalin as the main reason responsible for its outbreak and growth, clear through his approach on communist expansion, use of Red Army and inability to uphold agreements. However, for a war of any king to develop, there is always more than one party involved and the USA and its President Harry Truman could also be said to have contributed to the development of the Cold War; partly because of being aggressive to Stalin- taking an Iron Fist on dealings with Russia through polices such as the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan. Issues such as Britain and Churchill´s Iron Curtain Speech can also be seen as hindering relations between the two superpowers in the Cold War, and therefore playing a role in its development...

The Boogeyman Coming America

...the society of the United States fell victim to fear. This fear brought two separate movements to try and keep the “Boogeyman” from trying to get into the United States. These movements were both commonly known as the Red Scare. This scare was willing to take anyone as it’s victim. Celebrities, politicians, or common Americans were all vulnerable to this phenomena that brought forth a Salem Witch Trial type of environment. The government of the United States of America tried to take many precautions, whether it was a success or failure, to try and prevent the spread of Communism in a country that is considered the greatest country on the Earth. Whenever there is a moment in history that brings on a mass hysteria, it shows what kind of people are really out there lurking around. This moment in history illustrates what happens during hysteria and what it makes people do in a time in which a common fear is shared amongst individuals of a society. “The scariest moment is always just before you start.” - Stephen King (269) This quote illustrates the moment in time just before the second Red Scare. Unlike the first Red Scare, this Red Scare had many components that provided more fear to the United States citizens. The citizens were not only in fear of the spread of communism, but they were also fearful of the United States Government coming to knock at their door. Let’s backtrack to how this whole event came about. World War II ended in 1945 and the United States and the USSR...

Code Red

...Code Red was a computer worm observed on the Internet on July 15, 2001. It attacked computers running Microsoft's IIS web server. The Code Red worm was first discovered and researched by eEye Digital Security employees Marc Maiffret and Ryan Permeh. They named it "Code Red" because Code Red Mountain Dew was what they were drinking at the time. Although the worm had been released on July 13, the largest group of infected computers was seen on July 19, 2001. On this day, the number of infected hosts reached 359,000. The worm exploited a vulnerability in the indexing software distributed with IIS, described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS01-033. The worm spread itself using a common type of vulnerability known as a [[buffer overflow]]. It did this by using a long string of the repeated character 'N' to overflow a buffer, allowing the worm to execute arbitrary code and infect the machine. Kenneth D. Eichman was the first to discover how to block it. Days 1-19: Trying to spread itself by looking for more IIS servers on the Internet. Days 20–27: Launch [[denial of service]] attacks on several fixed [[IP address]]es. The IP address of the [[White House]] web server was among those. Days 28-end of month: Sleeps, no active attacks. When scanning for vulnerable machines, the worm did not test to see if the server running on a remote machine was running a vulnerable version of IIS, or even to see if it was running IIS at all. The worm's payload is the string following the last 'N'. Due...

Red Bull

...Case: Red Bull Red Bull’s success is a result of a great marketing strategy including product placement and creating brand loyalty. Success is also a result of avoiding marketing myopia. Red Bull accomplished this by claiming to satisfy more than just your thirst. Dietrich Mateschitz took the energy drink concept of Krating Daeng in Thailand and broadened it usage by also marketing Red Bull as a sports drink, functional drink, and nutritious drink. Their success was also stemmed from their marketing approach to reach their consumers directly by “word of mouth” concept. After early success, Red Bull has repositioned itself in the market after they failed disastrously in the United Kingdom in 1996. Red Bull moved its marketing strategy from sports energy drink segment to functional energy drink segment. Being an alcohol mixer also contributed to Red Bull’s success. Their direct marketing strategy towards pubs, bars, nightclubs, and deejays proved to be highly successful. Since Red Bull is being distributed in this manner, it became inevitable that people will soon consume this product with alcohol. Red Bull’s success formula is “word of mouth” marketing and being in the forefront of high energy sporting events and athletes. They used word or mouth first then traditional advertising last. Red Bull maintained its position as a functional energy drink category in order to stay successful. Red Bull knew when to turn on the advertising by watching the market...

Malicious Code Attack

...Week 4: Essay 4.1 Malicious Code Attack Harold Streat Jr (15813476) NT2580: Introduction to Information Security March 2, 2014 DeVon Carter Malicious Code Attack The Code Red virus didn't kill the Internet, but it did prove that there is a long way to go in the war against cyber-attacks, and, if the future is anything like the past, it is a war the good guys will never win (Burnett & Gomez, 2001). The Code Red worm is one example where knowledge of emerging vulnerabilities and implementation of security patches plus overall watchfulness of network activity could have saved many systems from falling prey to a well-publicized attack (Burnett & Gomez, 2001). The Code Red or Red Wiggler Worm, as it was known, was a self-replicating program designed to consume computer and network resources creating a Denial of Service (DoS) to the user community. The Code Red worm exploited a known vulnerability in Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 2000, popular operating systems in the business environment. The vulnerability was related to Internet Information Server (IIS), which runs on many Windows-based World Wide Web servers throughout the world. Code Red spread through several variants with mixed effectiveness. As the worm code was mutated, updated and re-released, infection rates increased (Burnett & Gomez, 2001). The worm began by scanning networks to identify hosts running IIS and accepting information on TCP port 80....

Reality In The Crucible

...The Merging of Reality and History to Create Awareness The early 1692, nineteen men and women were convicted and hanged for witchcraft in a small town in Massachusetts. Hysteria spread throughout the town making it easy for one to believe even the most trusted person in town could be guilty (Salem). Meanwhile, in the early 1950s, a similar paranoia spread throughout Washington D.C. urging Arthur Miller, an up and coming playwright, to create a story that would grab an audience, and bring awareness to a budding crisis (Arthur). The Crucible tells the story of the power of hysteria during the Salem Witch Trials in a way that relates more to the underlying topic of the Red Scare rather than the actual history. Arthur Miller significantly changes...

Regression In The Crucible

...Crucible, was written when McCarthyism, which involved the persecution of suspected communists, was at a high. The play explores the seemingly timeless parallels of panicked groups hoping to protect themself and their own between the Salem Witch Trials and the McCarthy Era trials that are still applicable today as the fight on terror advances. Notwithstanding the likeness between the three, anomalies appear that show growth or even regression in a culture do remain. Events such as unfair stereotyping, magnified paranoia, and targeting ideas through accusing people, appear in The Crucible, McCarthy Era, and contemporary America; despite those many similarities, there are a few contrasts, such as who was attacked, how to the information was spread, and exhibits of guilt. Unfair stereotyping has lead to accusing and convicting the innocent. Witchcraft may have been an easy assumption to make because Tituba, a slave and accused witch, is said to have been from Barbados, a place known for its practice of voodoo, but there are “no references to [Tituba practicing witchcraft] in the court records” (Brooks, 2016, para. 5). Abigail, the one making accusations against townspeople, chose her first target wisely, picking on someone who could potentially be a likely offender based on stereotypes. Not only does this attest cunningness of Abigal, this also is an example of stereotyping, as exhibited through characters in The Crucible. In the McCarthy Era, one of the biggest stereotypes was that...
