Summary:
The story revolves around the life of Benjamin Martin and his struggle to raise his family peaceful. He wants to live his life in peace and tries to forget about his actions in past the French-Indian war. When South Carolina (where Martin lives) chooses to go to war with Britain he wants no part in it, and was even opposed to it because he wants to protect his family. But his eldest son Gabriel chose to join the newly formed continental army against his father's will . Later there is a battle between near Martins house and a mysterious soldier sneaks into Martin house. He told his eldest daughter to take her younger sibling and hide in the tall grass and if he did not return by sun down they were to go to their aunts house. He then gave one gun to each of his to other two sons and told them to come with him. When they had caught up to the convoy that was taking Gabriel tbe hanged Martin and his sons killed and the troops starting with the officers and working their way down. After saving his Gadrial, Martin dropped of his younger two kids at aunt Susan's house and heads over to the baricsa of the continental army. When they got thier Martin was reunited with ((()))(A friend of his who had great respect for Martin since they fought in the french-Indian war together) ,who was now in charge of the army since the previous general had ran away. ((())) then gave Martin a position as a ((())) and put Gadrial under his command. Martin and Gadrial them split up to find recruits for the army. While they was trying to recruit men for the militia Gadrial met ((())) a girl he had gone to school with when he was younger. She was a great help to Gadrial because she gave a stirring speech in church which motivated many of the men in the town
