...intensity of today's media coverage has been greatly magnified by the sheer number andtypes of media outlets that are available today. Intense competition for the most revealingphotographs and the latest information on a subject has turned even minor media events intoso-called "media frenzies". Reporters are forced by the nature of the competition to pry everdeeper for an angle on a story that no one else has been able to uncover. With this type of media coverage, it does become more and more likely that anyone who is subjected to it willhave his or her reputation tarnished, as no individual is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. Theadvances in technology have made much information easily and instantaneously available.Technology has also made it easier to dig further than ever before into a person's past, increasing the possibility that the subject's reputation may be harmed. The above statement is much too broad, however. "Anyone" covers all people all over theworld. There are people whose reputations have only been enhanced by media scrutiny. Thereare also people whose reputations were already so poor that media scrutiny could not possiblydiminish it any further. There may very well be people that have done nothing wrong in thepast, at least that can be discovered by the media, whose reputations could not be diminishedby media scrutiny. To broadly state that "anyone" subjected to media coverage will have his orher status sullied implies that everyone's reputation worldwide is susceptible...

...individuals, many of whom are associated with the video game industry. Initially sparked by feminist criticisms of video gaming, Gamer Gate eventually escalated into a fiasco of hateful tirades, threats, and violence. In this paper, we hope to illuminate the factors which contributed to Gamer Gate evolving into its final form and Gamer Gate’s ultimate impact onto the industry that birthed it. To objectively describe the components of this extremely polarized conflict, we must sift through the bountiful amounts of opinionated material related to the matter, until we can depict Gamer Gate’s progression in an unbiased manner. What is Gamer Gate? The phrase Gamer Gate can refer to multiple things. The overall controversy known as Gamer Gate, in essence, is a polarized debate that began with criticisms of the videogame industry's misogynistic culture. In response to these claims, individuals amassed under a Twitter campaign of the same name to slander critics of the videogame industry and those that spread those claims. Eventually, slander became threats and these threats metamorphosed into a fiasco of indistinguishable muckraking that shook the video gaming industry to its core. Advocates of Gamer Gate and its crusading supporters rally against a supposed unethical reporters. They engage in a variety of extreme actions against anyone or anything they deem to be their opposition. The Role of Feminism and Sexism For many years, gaming was considered to be a “boy” activity...

...authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of UNESCO or its Division for Freedom of Expression, Democracy and Peace. Preface As stated in its Constitution, UNESCO is dedicated to “Promoting the free flow of ideas by word and image”. Part of this mission, therefore, is to promote freedom of expression and freedom of the press through sensitization and monitoring activities, as a central element in building strong democracies, contributing to good governance, promoting civic participation and the rule of law, and encouraging human development and security. Media independence and pluralism are fostered by the Organization, providing advisory services on media legislation and sensitizing governments and parliamentarians, as well as civil society and relevant professional associations. However, UNESCO recognizes that the principle of freedom of expression must apply not only to traditional media, but also to the Internet. Providing an unprecedented volume of resources for information and knowledge, the Internet opens up new opportunities for expression and participation and holds enormous potential for development. This comprehensive research publication examines the changing legal and regulatory ecology that has shaped the Internet over the years. The researchwas...

...GRE Analytical Writing ISSUE Essay Topic - 1 "Important truths begin as outrageous, or at least uncomfortable, attacks upon the accepted wisdom of the time." GRE AWA Analytical Writing ISSUE Essay Sample Solution – 1 “The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth.” ― Niels Bohr[->0] This is a proven fact that truth is the initial stage of progress. However, it is also believed that truth always starts away from the traditions and conventions. Therefore, people consider truths as attacks upon their beliefs, which people are following from ages. Truth also means some new facts that are unknown to us. People do not want to deviate from the facts, which they have learnt from their ancestors, and it is true to say that shedding ones dogmas is often difficult. They feel that it is an attack on their wisdom. If we look at the history of the world, we will find many examples where truth has generated commotions in the society. Different people have different views about the existence of God, life after death and origin of earth etc. For example, people took a long time to accept that the earth is round. Religious leaders and clergymen opposed this idea as it was against what they were teaching. Similarly, when Polish astronomer, Copernicus discovered that the earth goes round the sun and not vice versa, he was opposed by churches for many years. In fact he and his supporters were...
