...Running head: DRAWING TO PAINTING Drawing to Painting Kristofer Kem ARTS/230 June 26, 2014 Elizabeth Labby Drawing to Painting Raphael has painted the Alba Madonna. This paper will discuss what Raphael used to paint the Alba Madonna. This paper will also show how Raphael used drawing as a method to painting. Furthermore, the reader will be informed on the materials he used for his art work as well as how the foundations of his paintings came together for the final product. Lastly, this paper will explain why Raphael drew the work prior to him painting as well as what he wanted to express in his art work. Metalpoint was a tool that was used in the late 15th century that many artists used to create drawings. Metalpoint was one of the materials that Raphael used for his art work. “The metalpoint creates a chemical reaction once it is applied to paper this would produce lines” (Sayre, 2010). In addition to using metalpoint, Raphael also used chalk in his art work. In the past, many artists used chalk in his or her drawings. In order for chalk to be used like a pencil, it had to be sharpened to a point. Typically Raphael would use oil on wood panels. To create paintings, he used oil on canvas as well. Raphael was one the first artists to show what kind of power oil has in paintings. This is because of oil’s ability to give off a high gloss finish and its texture. Another medium that Raphael used in his paintings was tempera. Tempera is an emulsion of pure egg yolk and water that is...

...Running Head: Boy at the Window Boy at the Window ENG 125: Introduction to Literature Instructor: Sarah MacDonald April, 15 2012 Running Head: Boy at the Window Boy at the Window In “Boy at the Window”, Richard Wilbur uses examples of contrast, personification and allegory in order to convey a message about the fate of childhood innocence. Wilbur tries to tell the reader that the innocence felt by children is doomed from the start to succumb to the forces of experience. Contrast is the strongest literary device utilized in “Boy at the Window”, with the numerous examples serving to drive home the loss of innocence and set a tone for the whole poem. Wilbur juxtaposes the bitter cold outside with the warmth inside the home where the child resides; while the child looks at the snowman’s predicament from his own perspective, the more experienced snowman knows that he would be doomed were he to enter the warm house. This leads into a contrast between the worldly snowman, who understands the necessary division between his position and the boy’s, and the young child who feels only sympathy. Ice and water form another example of contrast; “Though frozen water is his [the snowman’s] element”, the snowman cries single tears of melted water out of sympathy for the young’s boy’s sorrow. What the boy desires, for the snowman to be inside the warmth rather than out in the cold, cannot be. A second group of contrasting images is the difference between loneliness and company. Much...

...Running head: Self Reflection 19 ones influence; love of all humanity means respect for the dignity of and sensitivity to the needs of others; and humility is the acknowledgement of our own limitations (“the more we know, the more there is to learn). (Cathcart, 2000; Welfel, 2010) Emerson said, “Desire is possibility seeking expression.” If a person truly wants something, the possibility of achieving or attaining it surely exists. Problems arise when people confuse probability with possibility and when they decide that we already know everything required to perform a task; far too many variables exist for people to really „know‟ everything required to resolve any one situation. As professionals, we must proceed cautiously and judiciously based on what we have learned about ourselves, our core beliefs and values, and the standards and guidelines of our professional associations; while listening to the messages the world is sending us from within, being realistically optimistic, and realizing that there is no limit to human possibilities and human potential. The ultimate power to achieve lies within each individual and can only be actualized by Self -exploration, Self -discovery, Self -motivation, Self -discipline, Self -mastery, Self- confidence, Self- understanding, Self- acceptance, and Self- realization. Without a set of values, these actions will lack direction and focus. Measuring them against a set of values requires that we, as professionals...

...Essay #1 Cause and Effect Sarah C. Powers Stautzenberger GEN 090 English Skills and Development Ms. Constance Plungus October 31, 2011 The loss of my mother was devastating and tragic. In 1998, my mother suffered from a brain aneurism that burst. I was 17 yrs old, and lost my best friend. Mom was strong willed and humorous. She finished college on the deans list, and raised four children by her self. She was the matriarch of my family, She was a great woman who cared for humanity. Sadly she also suffered the disease of addiction. Unfortunately that series of events left my poor mother in a nursing home not able to care for her self. Physically she is here, mentally she is not. The loss of my mom brought broken hearts, lost souls and God willing the dawn of a new day. My experience with addiction is that is can be life threatening. In my family alone, I have lost two aunt’s and a mother due to addiction. Before it took their lives, it changed their whole perspective on life. For example, my mother was always loving and compassionate. As an addict she was mean and hateful. The disease of addiction can and will take everything from you and your family. I lost the person who taught me how to be strong and proud no matter what the situation. My mother was an honorable woman and I suffered a dear loss. Addiction is fatal. There are many effects to the person who is an addict. Relationships with family and friends will...

...Running Head Unique Blends Volunteer Learning Center Derrick S. College Abstract The community is our people; those people are our friends and neighbors, our friends and neighbors make up the world. So what could make the community better? Studies show volunteerism helps to change people’s lives, makes you feel better about your contribution; whether that be financially or with your time, and help promote a better quality of life for others. Whatever you’re doing to volunteer, you are making the community that much better and it will show throughout. So what am I contributing to the community? ...Running head: IMPACT OF EDUCATION CHOICE ON PUBLIC FUNDS u08a1 Impact of Education Choice on Public Funds Capella University ED 7822- The Funding of Educational Institutions Dr. Lee Monroe Both tax credit and voucher programs are school choice options for South Carolina. They are completely consistent with the South Carolina Constitution and relevant South Carolina state court decisions. In 1973, South Carolina amended its Blaine Amendment by eliminating the ban on “indirect” funding of private educational institutions. According to the authoritative “West Committee,” the change reflected the framers’ intent to allow public funds to be used to assist students who independently choose to attend private educational institutions, but to prohibit direct government subsidization of those institutions. From the school choice perspective, this change is important for two reasons. First, a voucher program represents precisely the type of funding the framers of the current version of its Blaine Amendment (Article XI, Section 4) wished to allow. Second, South Carolina Supreme Court cases like Hartness v. Patterson that reject the distinction between aid to students and aid to institutions are no longer valid, as they were premised on constitutional language that was later deleted in order to allow student benefit programs. In 2003 S.C. AG LEXIS 42 (2003)The South Carolina Attorney General concluded that using lottery funds to contract with private schools...

...Impacts of Chinese Government PR 1 Running Head: IMPACTS OF CHINESE GOVERNMENT PR Impacts of Chinese Government Public Relations: PR Expertise, Legitimacy and News October 31, 2007 Impacts of Chinese Government PR 2 Abstract Over the past five years, Chinese government has deployed considerable amount of resources to enhance government public relations expertise with the hope of achieving more positive media coverage by Western media. However, the effectiveness of government public relations strategies is not only contingent upon public relations expertise but also upon legitimacy of Chinese government perceived by journalists. This study finds out that Chinese government public relations efforts have been helpful in raising the number of attributions to Chinese government sources in U.S. media coverage of China, but do not improve the image of China in U.S. media coverage and the valence of China in American public opinion. Impacts of Chinese Government PR 3 Impacts of Chinese Government Public Relations: PR Expertise, Legitimacy and News China has become more involved in the international community economically and politically since the reforming and the opening policies in the late 1970s. As a result, China has gradually played an important role in international economy and politics. Simultaneously, China has seen an influx of Western tourists and businessmen. Inevitably, these changes spur demand for various kinds of information of China, and lead to a dramatic...

Setting Up the Two Running Heads in Word One important change to APA concerns where to place the two running heads, and, because placing running heads in Word can be tricky, this first section of the paper is dedicated to making that process as painless as possible. Setting up the required running heads in Word can be tricky because it involves both left and right alignment on a single line (for title text and page number, respectively), because two running heads are required instead of just one (thanks to the "Running head" that needs to be included in one of them!), and because, perhaps counter-intuitively, the...
