...Essay on the Sampler The short story is called The Sampler and is written by Ira V. Morris. There are two main persons: (are) the good girl and the old bad fellow. Two dissimilarities. The short story deals with the questions if tThe man takes advantage of the free samples offered in the shop or if the shop girl is prejudiced against the old poor fellow. The short story is about an old fellow, who comes to the plum pudding store once a week. The problem is that the man does not buy any plum puddings, but he samples them. Therefore he gets the plum puddings for free and actually steals from the store (– definition as a thief). We see the story through the woman’s eyes, therefore the shop girl has the prejudice that the man is poor and cannot afford the product. Even though the man was neatly dressed, she still has the prejudice that he is poor. The good girl The shop girl is very friendly and open-minded. Even though the girl knows what the man is up to she lets him come to the store each week, and actually asks him if he wants a spoon to sample the puddings. “Well, let him come if he wants it that bad” “Would you like to sample them, sir? Here is a spoon for you to use.” The girl lets the old man sample from the store. And later she wants to buy him a pudding; it would give her such pleasure. The man samples not just one The man samples every pudding in the store, but he never buys anything, and he has done it for years. He says he is never satisfied with...

...Essay of the short story: ”The Sampler” Helpfulness is something most people are very fond of. People like to help other people to show their kindness and benevolence. In the novel “The Sampler”, written by Ira V. Morris, we see how easily our decent actions can be misunderstood. The novel is about an old man, who is very poor. He often comes and samples puddings in a store. The narrator feels sorry for the old man and wants to help him. But what was really a good intention ends up with many bitter privations. The narrator is a 1. person narrator and he has often wondered of this privilege of samples is imposed, so he asks the shop girl about it. “Now there’s one old gentleman, for instance,” she told me, “who comes here almost every week and samples each one of the puddings, though he never buys anything and I suppose he never will. I remember him from last year and the year before that, too”(p. 1, ll. 9-12) The shop girl tells that the wondering the narrator has been having is true. But she thinks it’s okay, because the old man is very poor and probably can't afford to buy one. This gets the reader to wonder, if this privilege really is imposed. As reader you get curious too. There is a very detailed description of the old man, which makes the reader symphasize with him. So when you hear the story about the old and poor man, and you get the full description, you get a feeling that you have to help this really poor man. The narrator wants to help the old and poor man, because...

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) have been in focus of attention for years. In 1982, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) come forth with a thorough study on the emissions and health effects of benzo (a) pyrene and other PAHs (United States Environmental Protection Agency, 1982). According to the report, the carcinogenetic effect of benzo (a) pyrene was already proven and other PAHs were suspected to have similar effects. The US EPA categorized these PAHs and selected 16 compounds that were found and monitored to prove the claims. They are were named as the sixteen EPA-PAHs. The emission sources for these compounds that were presented in the study as having...

...popularity that in the 2000s Girl Scouts had a mission to design the new bold and bright cookies box, to reflect the spirit of Girl Scouts. Now in 2014, with the demand from customers wanting the majority of all the cookies, the time has come to introduce the “Girl Scout Cookie Multipack Sampler.” The multipack would combine all the favorites with the least favorites (if there are any) all in one. With 12 different types of cookies to choose from a customer may have a hard time deciding which one to choose. If this happens, then the Girl Scouts have a likely chance that they will not get the sale. But with the new multipack sampler the Girl Scouts have a better chance at gaining the sale because the customer can have all the cookies all in one. In addition, many of the Girl Scout troops would benefit from this multipack because they would have less boxes and packages to haul around and be accounted for. The environment would benefit as well, with little waste that would be produced for our recycle bins. Conclusion The biggest advantage for the Girl Scouts would be the resources would decrease because of fewer packages the company would need to produce. Having a multipack sampler for customers to choose from the company it meeting the needs of the customer as well finding more cost effective, environment friendly product people have learned to love and enjoy for 100+years. ...Summary: During my trip to Cormorant Dam there was an incident where a piece of lumber fell on me dislocating my shoulder as well as breaking Harry Vincent’s air sampler. Details: When I flew out to Cormorant Dam on November 7th, I followed all of your instructions for care for the Vancourt MK air sampler. For the following nine days I followed Mr. Vincent’s procedure for air measurement without incident. Yesterday, I was standing on a small platform under some construction work and a piece of lumber fell from the site. The lumber knocked the device out of my hand breaking the device. I also noticed my hand was throbbing, so following company policy, I went to the hospital where I was diagnosed with an anterior shoulder dislocation. The...

...For this discussion I had to take the RHETI Ennegram sampler test, and according to the results I am one of those that fall into type nine; the peacemaker. “The peacemaker is basically easy going, accepting, trusting, grounded, and supportive person, which pretty much describes me to the tee ("Rheti Sampler Test Results", (1998-2013); I strive on ensuring that everything that I have a hand in runs smoothly and without conflict. The only thing that I had never thought of myself as though was being, “able to bring people together and heal conflicts ("Rheti Sampler Test Results", (1998-2013). With my personality type dealing with conflict is sometimes a struggle, since I can be emotionally withdrawn and unwilling to deal with anything that upsets me; I actually do try to stay away of those types of conflicts. I would actually prefer if someone else handles conflict that is to emotionally heavy for me. When I do handle conflict, I am usually calm and collected. I can talk to people in such ways that calm them down and allow them to discuss the situation at hand, instead of fighting or bickering about it. I do believe that sometimes I am the voice of reason within those conflicts, but where it comes from I do not know. RHETI sampler test results. ((1998-2013)). ...Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) LIMS as an information management system LIMS is the information management system used in the Analytical Laboratory, Water Laboratory and Biological Sciences Laboratory at Scientific Services. LIMS was implemented in July 2007 to improve work processes, traceability, turn-around time, data security and accountability and to incorporate the aspects and requirements of ISO 17025. Sample lifecycle using LIMS Sampling of samples Samples are sampled by either internal or external samplers. Our internal samplers perform their sampling routes using handheld units with a built-in GPS functionality that are interfaced with the LIMS system and capture valuable data e.g. sample date and time, distance travelled, field tests performed, sampling and field test notes. Logging samples Samples are logged into LIMS via bar-code scanning or scheduling. Once this is done, a unique sample number, which can be used as a tracking or reference number as part of the ISO 17025 standards, is assigned to it. A bar-coded label containing this number is attached to the sample bottle, and this is used in the laboratories for label scanning. Receiving, logging, bar-coding and distributing of samples is undertaken at our centralised Sample Receiving Area. Analysing and receiving of samples into the laboratory Samples are scanned into the various laboratories for traceability purposes, so as to define their exact location. Afterwards, Laboratory...

...Starbucks Hong Kong Hong Kong Starbucks is my all time favorite. It is actually not a totally Hong Kong western franchised restaurant. It is run by a big Hong Kong restaurant chain, Maxim. They don't have any Chinese fusion coffee or snacks. They do have some great bakery goodies that you can't find in any Starbucks in U.S. Perry always makes sure that I have their spinach quiche (it's actually a pie, more than a quiche 'cos no egg is added) when we are there. They always warm it up in the oven and bring it over to your table. They also have seasonal specials. If you happen to enjoy their coffee in the store like I do, you may get a free sampler. It doesn't happen frequently. But I did have a very good experience one year of trying a white chocolate coffee sampler before Christmas time in the one close to the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry station. Most Starbucks in Hong Kong have big comfy sofas. You rarely find one without. My best friend, Elaine, loves to go to those where you can enjoy the Hong Kong Victoria Harbor view (coming soon link to Junk Boat ride page). If you are lucky enough to get a table next to the window, from my point of view, that is one of the most enjoyable moments in life. You can find the Hong Kong Starbucks with harbour view in World Trade Centre, near Ocean Terminal and Harbour City. The Starbucks in Prince Building has a very peaceful atmosphere. During Chinese New Year, many companies in Hong Kong give out red pocket envelopes for free...
