O que é feito do “THE SIMS”?

The Sims O The Sims é um jogo eletrónico de simulação da vida real, desenvolvido inicialmente pela Maxis e mais tarde pela The Sims Studio, e editado pela Electronic Arts, sendo um dos videojogos melhor sucedidos de sempre. Foram até hoje vendidas 125 milhões de cópias. Neste jogo, em vez de ter um objetivo definido, o jogador é incentivado a tomar as suas próprias opções livremente, num ambiente interativo. O jogador cria uma ou várias pessoas virtuais denominadas “Sims” e coloca-as em casas pré-construídas ou arquitetadas por si, ajudando-os a tomar as suas decisões do dia-a-dia e a evoluir, quer em termos pessoais, quer em termos profissionais, fazendo-os ganhar pontos e dinheiro. Não é possível “vencer” o jogo. As atividades a serem realizadas pelos “Sims” são extremamente simples e práticas, tais como, comer, descansar, tomar banho, conversar, estudar, namorar, ir às compras, entre inúmeras outras. A inteligência artificial do jogo é muito evoluídas, com os “Sims” a responderem às condições da envolvente por si mesmo. Contudo, é frequentemente necessária a intervenção do jogador para que eles se mantenham no caminho certo.

História

Inicialmente, o jogo “The Sims” surgiu para ser um simulador de arquitetura, pois o processo de construção das habitações é baseado num sistema de arquitetura avançado, em que os “Sims” seriam meros personagens colaboradores. O jogo “The Sims”, foi criado pelo designer Will Wright, e a primeira versão foi lançada no mercado em Fevereiro de 2000. Para este jogo foram posteriormente concebidas, sete pacotes de expansões temáticos entre 2000 e 2003. Em cada expansão foram acrescentados novos utensílios e funcionalidades, tornando-se o jogo progressivamente mais completo e interativo. Uma das expansões mais vendidas foi a “The Sims: Vacation”, que veio pela primeira vez permitir que os “Sims” fossem de férias, e migrassem para diferentes ambientes: praia, floresta e neve. A Electronic Arts lançou em Setembro de 2004, a segunda versão da sequela, o “The Sims 2”, que ao contrário do primeiro, é jogado num ambiente completamente 3D. É bastante mais realista, pois neste jogo os “Sims” envelhecem e existem diferentes dias da semana, entre outras novidades. Foram criados oito pacotes de expansão e nove pacotes de itens para este jogo. Paralelamente, ao “The Sims” para PC, foram ao longo dos anos criados inúmeros jogos, para as mais variadas plataformas, tais como: Xbox, Playstation 2, Nintendo DS, Game Cube e Game Boy Advance. Para os iPods foram também desenvolvidos três títulos de “The Sims 2”: “The Sims Bowling”, “The Sims DJ” e “The Sims Pool”.

Atualmente A terceira geração de “The Sims”, surge em Junho de 2009, com o “The Sims 3”. Foram criados oito expansion packs e sete stuff packs para este jogo, tendo sido a última expansão lançada dia 13 de Novembro, “The Sims: Seasons”, um pacote inovador onde os “Sims” passam a experienciar as quatro estações do ano. Está previsto para Janeiro, o lançamento de um novo pacote de itens, “The Sims 3: 70s, 80s & 90s stuff”. Todavia, hoje, os fãs de “The Sims”, podem comprar utensílios adicionais, na loja oficial do jogo, “The Sims 3: Store”. Atualmente, existe também uma aplicação desenvolvida pela Playfish e a Electronic Arts para o Facebook, lançada em Agosto de 2011, em que à semelhança do videojogo, o utilizador pode criar a sua personagem, interagindo e criando relacionamentos com os seus amigos da rede social. Desde então já aderiram mais de 65 milhões de jogadores a esta aplicação.

Porquê tanto sucesso? Na minha opinião, a razão fundamental justificativa deste enorme sucesso, é a liberdade total que o jogo dá aos utilizadores, incentivando à imaginação e criatividade. As pessoas podem, refletir no jogo, todas as suas fantasias, ambições e sonhos. Podem criar uma representação de si próprios, das suas famílias, das suas casas e vizinhos. Resumindo podem fazer o que quiserem, sem estarem vinculadas aos objetivos do videojogo comum, que depois de ultrapassados o fazem perder o interesse. E a produção de “The Sims” ao estar constantemente a melhorar o jogo e a acrescentar objetos e funcionalidades, foi fazendo com que a experiência do jogador se tornasse cada vez mais real. Para além de único, “The Sims” é também um jogo universal, que transcende fronteiras, idades e géneros. Por exemplo, ao contrário da maior parte dos jogos eletrónicos, normalmente mais jogados por homens, neste caso temos uma quota de 40% para o sexo feminino. Estudos, dizem que o que as mulheres mais gostam de fazer no jogo é decorar as casas, contrastando com os homens que se interessam mais pela fase da construção destas. Porém, os jogos de “The Sims” que alcançaram de longe maior sucesso, foram os produzidos para PC. As versões do jogo desenvolvidas para consola, nunca atingiram a reputação e aceitação, feitas para computador. E este parece ser o maior desafio para a Electronic Arts nos anos vindouros, pois esta foi sem dúvida a maior falha da produtora, na última década. E precisamente por isso, está já neste momento a ser trabalhada uma versão de “The Sims 3” para Nintendo 3DS. Outra via pela qual o jogo pode evoluir no futuro, é sem dúvida, a via online, quer através do melhoramento da aplicação para Facebook, quer do lançamento de um possível “The Sims 4”, com um modo de jogo online integrado, onde amigos ou pessoas de vários cantos do mundo possam jogar e interagir no mesmo jogo, tal como acontece com inúmeros outros jogos. Não obstante, neste caso não haveria obviamente vencidos ou vencedores, sendo a diversão a única razão para os jogadores aderirem a esta “modalidade”.
