The Success of the Cell Phone

One of the most used and successful products used today is the cell phone. There are many reasons why is it used worldwide today. Despite having its pros there are also many cons to owning a cell phone.

One of the reasons it is so successful is the fact that everyone needs one. It is mobile and can travel anywhere with you. As soon as I was old enough to go out on my own with my friends, for example, the first gift my parents bought me was a cell phone so they could contact me to make sure I was safe. The age of children receiving cell phones is getting younger and younger leading to an increase in sales.

Another reason the cell phone is so successful is that is now a fashion statement. The I-Phone, for example, was one of the most successful selling cell phones in the last few years just because it was seen as the “cool” phone to own. I know that most of friends own one and myself included. I bought it because of how advanced it was compared to the other phones which is another reason this particular cell phone was so successful.

As I briefly stated above cell phones are advancing in many ways which is another reason so many people buy them. On your cell phone you can have: internet access, satellite navigation systems, facebook and cameras. All these amazing applications lead to consumers constantly upgrading their phones for the new “in” application despite the price increase.

As I stated before there are also many cons to owning a cell phone. If you are in a place with poor or no network it is sometimes almost impossible to send a text let alone make a phone call. If you are in trouble and need help this can be a very dangerous situation to be in.

Another con of the cell phone is the high phone bills. Most people are on contracts nowadays and a cell phone bill can eat away at your credit card funds if you are not careful. Sometimes there can be bills for your cell phone that you were not aware of which may have been in the small print in your contract.

Another time a cell phone user can be put in a bad situation is if they lose battery. Not many people carry a cell phone charger around with them so if they lose battery they cannot recharge. Even if the cell phone user had a charger there is not always an electricity supply available.

Despite there being may cons to owning a cell phone, millions of people worldwide still purchase them as there are many pros to owning one too. I predict that cell phones will be around for years to come and that they will keep advancing in technology each year. I also predict that soon even older generations will be using cell phones since they are so convenient. I know I won´t be giving up my cell phone anytime soon.
