...GM Ignition Switch Scandal General Motors recalled about 800,000 cars due to faulty ignition switches on February 6, 2014. The problem with the faulty part was that it could shut off the engine while driving, thus preventing the airbags from deploying and inflating. General Motors to recall more of its small cars, which resulted in almost 30 million cars worldwide recalled and them having to compensate for 124 deaths. The faulty part had been well known to GM for upwards of ten years prior to them declaring the recall. (Smith, 2014) This major issue began in 2001 during pre-production testing of GM’s Saturn Ion. GM engineers experience problems with ignition switches on the Ion. The exact problem was with a mechanism in the car that is supposed to hold the ignition key in place. According to GM’s records, an internal report shows that the problem was resolved when the switch was redesigned and fixed. Not too long after this initial issue in 2004 a GM service technician sees a Saturn Ion stall while being driven stating that "several other keys on the key ring” was the issue. The technician then records within the same report that "the additional weight of the keys had worn out the ignition switch." (Valdes-Dapena, 2014) Another major ethical dilemma occurred in the testing and manufacturing of another GM car, Chevrolet Cobalt. In 2004, A GM engineer bumps into the key in a Chevrolet Cobalt during testing, thus causing it to immediately lose power. In 2005 General Motors receives...

...In the novel, Bernard Marx makes many attempts at outwardly conforming to society, while inwardly questioning everything that he’s doing and the reasons behind what others are doing. Bernard’s initial introduction to the novel is ironic in itself. The Controller is shown giving a lecture to a group of Alpha boys on how “passion, feeling, madness, and the unchecked stream of it all...how the barrier between desire and its consumption should be such a short interval that there is no room for those old, unnecessary barriers (44).” In the next switch of points of view a paragraph later, Bernard is shown being discontent with how others treat the woman he is pining for, Lenina. “Talking about her as though she were a bit of meat,” Bernard says....

...Capstone: Week Nine Checkpoint By: Jessica Swann MGT/210 Ms. Tara Wells January 26th, 2012 In my opinion, to be an essential supervisor of a small, medium, or large company, you must possess certain traits or abilities. First, you must be organized in time management because this is an essential part of being a supervisor. You must be able to make necessary decisions and changes in order to keep your production running harmoniously. For example, you have an assembly line in which you have 20 employees inserting different components into desktop computers. Each person inserts 2 parts into the housing as it goes down the line and after the 20th person installs their components, the computer moves on to another line. Today you have 3 people on dayshift that call off work; which means you have to fill the three openings in order to keep production running. What do you do? Option #1 is to have 3 people from other departments come over and fill the spots except it leaves those departments short by one person. Now this is a feasible idea providing the other departments are not already short staffed. Also it will shutdown your production line until you find the people willing to switch. Option #2 would be to call a “temp service” for the fill in’s except it would take too long to get people in place and then you have to train them. Production will be cut by probably 75%. Not a feasible idea. Option #3 would be to have 3 people stay over 4 hours from the...

...the best intentions on being an organized parent. Unfortunately, unless you set yourself up for success, you'll be continuing the same patterns year after year. ...ninety-two school shootings alone since the tragedy that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary in December (Every Town). Since the adoption of the Second Amendment in 1791, anti-gun control advocates have taken only part of the entire second amendment and rephrased it. "Right to bear arms" is the one and only phrase they will use in order to argue about the right of owning as to how many guns they can own and what they can use them for. With gun violence being a serious issue, the United States has not attempted to make a change in any law regulations to help prevent the massacres and tragedies that occur very regularly in the country. The United States should compose stricter gun control in order to save the citizens. The United States will indeed still have its problems, but one step at a time is progress for a better country. The Second Amendment states, “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” Thousands of citizens use the Second Amendment to protect against a possible tyrannical government; therefore having a right for guns to protect the people. Anti-gun control advocates also argue that people should be allowed to have a gun for self-defense is an absolute right due to the Second Amendment; something several gun control advocates may agree or disagree with, but due to the fact 73,505 Americans were treated from firearm incidents alone in 2010 speaks for itself (Statistic on...

...pitchers that each team has in its bullpen. While starting pitcher each team usually has about 5 starters that rotate through each game, which leaves the rest of the game up to the relief pitchers once the starter can no longer go. People do not normally realize that saying a person is a pitcher is quite a general statement. For example starting pitchers is defined as the pitcher who delivers the first pitch of the game to the first batter. Even if that pitcher gets hurt on that pitch he is still the starter. Normally starting pitchers are supposed to go the majority of the game depending on how many innings the game is going to last. If the game is seven innings long a good starter will go about five or six for a solid start. In a nine inning game the starter should go about six or seven. If the pitchers consistently cannot reach his need for innings they will most likely be put in the bullpen. Usually the determining factor in which decides how long a pitcher will go is the pitch count. The pitch count is exactly what it sounds like the amount of pitchers a pitcher has thrown to batters. In the season a starter is expected to be able to throw around one hundred pitches a game and be able to recover for their next start. A starting pitcher must throw a minimum of five innings to qualify for a win in the statistics book. The quality of the start is also determined by the amount of runs a pitcher gives up in his outing. Which can depend on the way the game is going,...

...clothing and accessories for women, men and female youth. (Soni, 2014) Educated young women between the ages of 25-34 are Lululemon's primary target market. The company’s goal is to bring in customers who have a higher income to purchase their merchandise. These women work towards or have a balanced, healthy lifestyle between their careers, family, and the gym. (araccon, 2012) Lululemon's secondary target market would be male and female youth. The generation of the millennials is Lululemon's current target market. This gives Lululemon an advantage because millennials typically do not know how to save their money, they end up spending most of their money on activities, events or eating out. They are outspending the older generations on items that aren't necessary. They spend about 18.5% of there money on hobbies and clothing (Rapier, 2017). According to Elkins article, sixty-nine percent of millennials spend their money on clothes they don’t necessarily need (2017)....

...parlor. The parlor is a room in most people’s houses, with full walls of tv’s which interact with people She thinks and treats them like family, almost more than she treats her own husband. When Montag was sick he asked his wife to turn off the parlor because it was giving him a headache, and Mildred replied with, “That’s my family” (46). This shows that she would rather keep her “family” on and talk to them opposed to helping and talking to her sick husband. Some of Mildred's friends have kids and just like their parents the parlor will keep them busy when they’re not at school. “I plunk the children in school nine days out of ten. I put up with them when they come home three days a month; it's not bad at all. You heave them into the 'parlor' and turn the switch” (96). Technology is such an addicting thing in the world of Fahrenheit 451 that the people can’t even spend time with their children for three days of the month. The children are either at school or in the parlor with their virtual family. There is no playing catch, or climbing trees in this world it’s almost one hundred percent technology...

...Today, forty-three school districts and nine charters is expected to change to a four-day school week, but only ten school districts and two charters have actually only switched to the four-day school week. The four-day school week has been a very controversial problem. Currently, twenty-one states have school districts within them that have committed to the four-day school week, include Michigan, and Wisconsin. This has been caused by the lack of federal funding to school districts, in which, causes budget cuts and eventually, the shutdown of school districts. There are two arguments to the four-day school week. One argument is would save money for the school, so, they are for it. The other argument is the school would have more problems with four days in a school week than five days in a school week, so, they are opposed to the four-day school week. Due to the disadvantages of the four-day schools, such...

...A Switch in Time Saves Nine Simon sat at his office desk pondering over what was discussed at his last meeting with the Treasurer, Angela Krampf. The working capital of their firm, Progressive Farm Equipment Incorporated, had increased at an alarming rate over the past couple of years making the directors and top managers very concerned. Despite the implementation of a “jut in time” inventory system and more efficient cash management methods, the working capital continued to rise. This time, however, it was the accounts receivable that needed attention. Angela received a memo form the board asking her to review and rectify the credit management problem as soon as possible. One of the sentences in the memo read “…we simply cannot continue to carry our customers as long as we have been.” Angela had therefore called on her assistant, Simon Martinez, and briefed of the situation. Progressive Farm Equipment Inc. had been in business since 1945, producing small and medium sized tractors, tillers, and other firm equipment. Its customer base included various local and regional hardware stores, farm equipment stores, and repair shops. Most of the clients were strapped for cash and were accustomed to fairly flexible credit terms. The firm had been hard pressed to offer terms of net 60 to its clients, primarily to counter competition from national suppliers and to maintain good customer relationships. Sales had steadily increased over the years but over the past year, higher interest...

...in what scientists call the most serious environmental problem the world faces which is the carbon dioxide (CO2) that emitted as the engine burns fuel. However, people might argue that greenhouse gas pollution which causes global warming comes from numerous sources that any single contribution seems small in proportion to the world total; collectively it becomes a vast problem especially automobile is everywhere around the world. To address a problem of such scale requires international agreements and national, states and local policies. However, making good on such commitments will require changes in how we manage every activity that contributes to the problem. For example, how much should we cut and where, and/or promo what programs to save ourselves? To answer this question, we need a clear picture of which sources contribute most to global warming. And from that point onward, we can discuss the significant of switching from automobile to public transportation. Afterward, we will be able to solve the question – is it better by just switching? What Costs Global Warming? How Damage Right Now? First, we need to understand what is global warming especially it roses up...
