Submitted By Words 528 Pages 3
Shiloh is about Leroy Moffitt, who is married to Norma Jean, and it’s easy to say they have and unhappy marriage. Leroy was injured in an accident so now he basically sits at home and does nothing whatsoever, polar opposite from his wife who is always trying to improve herself doing things like working out and trying to further her education. Norma Jean’s mom comes to visit and agitates her about the status of her marriage and tries talking the two into taking a trip to Shiloh. When she’s there it is also brought up that the couple lost their child to sudden infant death, which could have caused their marital discourse. The two decide to take the trip to Shiloh that her mother keeps pestering them about, and visit a log cabin there. Once there she tells him that she wants to leave him, but Leroy doesn’t understand. The story basically ends with his complete confusion.…show more content… Leroy wants to build a log cabin, even though it is highly impractical, he still perseveres on with his dream. Much like Leroy’s unending want for this log cabin is her need to keep his marriage together. I also believe that the log cabin, an impractical place to live in this day and age, also symbolizes how impractical it is to marry someone simply because they are pregnant with your child, as Leroy did with Norma Jean.
“Leroy has begun to appreciate how things are put together. He has begun to realize that in all the years he was on the road he never took the time to examine anything.”
